Shiyuki's note: (1)- In the lyrics the suffix 'sama' is used - this is often used by fans towards idols. (2)- I believe the first star of the evening (-) is a reference to lines in the manga. (3)-B refers to the idol group Ai Hoshino is in-B-Komachi. (4)- Aqua is the name of the male main character-Al's son Aquamarine Hoshino. (5)- Ruby is the name of the female main character-Ai's daughter Ruby Hoshino. (6)- The translation above is from the audio song lyrics (ie. what ikura sang) as well as from the lyrics YOASOBI staff put up on twitter, but in the written lyrics Ayase put in the description box of the Idol MV, it instead reads as 'I will have everything I want.' (7)- I believe this is a line from the manga. You can interpret Ai as the main character, but the anime's not about her, and vice versa. Absolutely fell in love with the anime once I found the op English translations. I can envision Ruby becoming an idol and singing this song, as it's essentially about her mother.

i have never been so satisfied with the adaptation. I read the manga a few times repeatedly, but the adaptation exceeded my expectations. Eventho I knew what was coming, I still teared up for the 1st episode. It was beautiful. The emotions that were conveyed was just wow. Also, thank you for the translation of the lyrics. When I heard the lines, "Ah~I finally said it, this is definitely not a lie, I love you." gaddamn that was painful yet beautiful.

The first star of the evening is in reference to the planet venus, who is also known as the goddess Aphrodite, whose role in mythos is intimately intertwined with love and beauty, meaning Ai being referred to as the incarnation of the first star is practically saying Ai embodies Aphrodite to a high degree

This song sounds like it is being sung by two or even three different people at different points. A fan who sees Ai's flaws but loves and admires her anyway even though the love is unrequited and not even acknowledged quite possibly a coworker, a possessive fan who wants to monopolize Ai for himself and relizes that will never happen and is losing their sanity at the thought of it and lastly Ai herself as a self-confession of sorts.

Because Edgerunners is something too unrealistic that we do not connect it to being similar to our real world. Oshi no Ko is something we can totally see happening. Actually, scratch that, it is something that probably has happened somewhere.

@@stan52323 It's less of the reincarnation aspect and more of the show/idol business garnering toxic and predatory behavior that results in devastating incidents and individuals both in and outside the industry being broken beyond repair. Ai's stabbing is in fact based on a real idol stabbing incident, where the victim survives but is left psychologically scarred by the incident. We like to imagine that the people whose content we consume every day knows we support them, but that is very wishful thinking. Still, it does not hurt to wish on. *Just don't get blinded by the star you chase.*

My interpretation of the Aqua and Ruby verses is that its Ai's meta description of herself from the POV of her fans that idolise her, while secretly referencing her children as well. i ran that Aqua line through DeepL and it translates to "Even the sweat that flows is beautiful aqua". Ai is an idol that works hard and her sweat from her hardwork is the colour of Aqua(marine). As for Ruby's line, yknow when writers describe eyes they might use gems as a metaphor? Basically, "Ai's eyes are so beautiful they're akin to rubies (Ruby)."

the lyrics of IDOL is actually understanble when you watch the 1st epsoide.WARNING;spoiler alert=she actually die and the phrase in the song "Ah i finally said it, this is definitely not a lie, I love you is when she die she told that exact words for her children Ruby and Aqua. The 1st episode is very sad to watch.
