Yoga for Seniors - 10 Minute Yoga for Seniors - Gentle Yoga for Seniors - Senior Yoga. This 10 minute yoga for seniors class is designed for increasing flexibility. This gentle senior yoga practice is especially designed for active older adults. Many modifications are shown throughout this slow, floor-based yoga practice that make this class very accessible for people that are senior citizens. This gentle yoga practice can be incorporated into your daily life to increase flexibility.
As with any exercise program, please be sure to consult your physician prior to starting. You are voluntarily engaging in this exercise program at your own risk. You assume all liability for any injury that may occur as a result of participating in Gentle Yoga and Wellness and watching this video.

I find this woman great. Her voice is gentle and so is the pace and she doesn't over-talk which really helps. However, I fear Melissa has moved on as all her videos are at least two years old. Nevertheless, she's among the best

as someone with chronic fatigue syndrome, slow and steady yoga is all I can do. Enjoyed this senior yoga, despite not being a senior, looking forward to check out your other videos

I love Melissa s yoga videos .... I have tried others , but I always come back to hers .... truly an inspirational lady ..... I’m almost 62 but she makes me feel like I’m still 32 .... tysm Melissa 👏👏

Oh man this is the BEST! First program ever where I didn't get that "dangerous twinge" in my lower back. Safe wonderful stretches. I feel renewed. Thank you Ms. Gentle.

I am glad that you liked the shorter format. I wanted to make a video that can be done daily since being consistent with your yoga practice is the best way to increase flexibility.

Thanks Mavis! 😊 Sometimes it is nice to squeeze in a short yoga practice, especially when you are busy. My son wanted to join me in my yoga practice this afternoon. He ended playing more than doing yoga, so it wasn’t super relaxing. 😂 At least I was able to get some yoga in.

This was fabulous! Thank you so very much. I was looking for a way to incorporate yoga into my day and am dealing with a lot of physical challenges. This was perfect and I love just starting with 10 minutes to settle into a daily routine.

Thank you for your video and your heart service! For someone who has a challenged back, what substitutions would you recommend for postures that include any form of forward fold including child's pose, seated forward fold , and happy baby pose?

I loved watching your class tonight, being 73 this seems very doable and relaxing. Can these poses be done at night before going to bed or is it best in the morning I am a fairly late night person.

Hi Sandra! 😊 This yoga practice can be done at night before going to bed. This practice is a pretty relaxing and gentle practice, so you should be fine doing it late at night. You may want to take the level one version of bridge pose, as backbends can be mildly stimulating for some people. Definitely test it out in your body and see how you feel. I hope that helps! Hi Alison! It is possible that you are tilting your head back when you hug your knees and rock. If you are tilting your head back, this could put pressure on your carotid artery. Pressure on your carotid artery could make you dizzy. Next time you try hugging your knees into your chest, try to tuck your chin slightly, rather than letting your chin tilt all the way up to the ceiling. If you still feel dizzy, that pose may not be the best for your body. If you are experiencing dizziness regularly, I would recommend talking to your doctor to see if there are any underlying reasons for the dizziness. I hope that helps! Take care! 💕

Hello Melissa, You have posted a lot of yoga videos. Can you suggest a sequence, some I might want to try first? Or is your advice to just pick at random? I am a male in my seventies, active, basically in good health, and I walk two or three miles most days, but am not as flexible as I once was, which became apparent as soon as I tried one of your ten minute offerings. Thank you for posting these. Would be grateful for any hints or direction as to how to work through them.

Very relaxing, but I had a knee replacement and can't do the first two and I had issues with my right hip. Is there something else I can do or modify for the knee/hip problem?

Thank you for your video. Please share modifications. At 3:36 you direct one to sit on the floor and bend the knees and grab one's feet or toes. If that is not available, what do you recommend? At 4:59 you direct one to cross one's leg over the other at the knees. Again if this is not available what do you recommend? At 9:05 you direct one into happy baby holding the legs at the shins, ankles or feet. If this is not available, what do you recommend?

This is my comment - sorry not trying to be rude, just honest. As an older woman of 69 I need to say that most of my friends and myself can not stand to be referred to as seniors. We are older people. Calling us seniors is condescending. Please think about it. Please stop and rephrase. Thank you.

Hello Susan! I appreciate the feedback. I use the term “Senior” because it helps my videos come up in KZfaq searches, but I can understand why some people may not care for the term. Do you have a suggestion for a work to use instead of Senior?

Thank you for using the term seniors. It indicates that it does not involve a difficult move which may be damaging which I have experienced in some other videos for general use. I think the term seniors is far preferable to old age pensioners, old people or other such terms. I embrace being a senior not problem at all with it.

Count me among the many who are grateful to have become a senior! It’s been a long journey here and I appreciate all that the term brings me! Soon to be 74 and proud of it! Saving this practice to do regularly until I do it with ease. An injury kept me from yoga for the past year and I’m glad to have an easy path returning. Thank you!
