It gives me so much joy and honor to launch EKT with this special episode on Yogi B, widely considered to be the Godfather of Tamil HipHop.
We talk about the iconic Vallavan album, and how it is the blueprint of Tamil hip-hop as well as his ongoing obsession with wanting to make his next album, Manthrahood better than his previous work. He also talks about his battle with mental health, the preset conditions regarding marriages, and his upcoming 50th birthday.
I hope you will enjoy this conversation and let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Mr. Yogiswaran's sharing was truly remarkable. Despite his legendary status, he chose to share the simple, everyday moments of life, highlighting his relatable humanity rather than just boasting about his triumphs. I feel grateful for the opportunity to have listened to his insights.

That was amazing. Truly enjoyed it and was really nice to listen to Yogi B whom I have truly admired from the Poetic Ammo Days. I remember purchasing the Vallavan CD in Klang. I was only on my lunch while working at the KKIA government clinic at Jalan Tengku Kelana. I passed by the audio shops there and their track was playing. Bought it immediately. Listened to it on my way home and purposely drove around Klang till I finished listening to the full album. What a classic masterpiece.

Damn nice and super raw content. I kinda agreed with him, we always failed to make a decision due to emotional attachment towards people or even country. Tend to regret it later on, it’s kinda sad situation for the Indians in Malaysia.

Amazingggg Joshua!!! Loved it watched from start til end without skipping a bit. First episode the best episode ever. Wishing the beast of Malaysia Tamil HipHop all the very best for his future undertaking 🎉❤ And I'm also eagerly waiting for #Manthrahood but one disappointment is that I'm sad most probably I wouldn't get to hold a physical album in my hands as it would be released digitally and available for purchase online due to technology development in this era. I'm still glad that I own the Vallavan album which I somehow managed to bought for the 2nd time purchace as I've lost the one which I bought back in 2006 when I was just 15, my very first music album purchase 😊

Great job on the podcast! It exceeded my expectations by far. At first, I was skeptical, wondering how it would stand out from the rest, but I stuck around for YOGI B's interview, which is a rare gem. Although I almost gave up when the profanity and innuendos started, I'm glad I stayed because it took a positive turn 😅 YOGI B sir, I still vividly remember in 90s the Poetic Ammo from the Malay Mail Big Walk ceremony at Sg Wang Plaza when you were performing.I was a pre-teen, was with my aunty. It was one of the first local English albums I truly fancied. Then came "Vallavan," and the rest is history. Thank you immensely for making my childhood beautiful. Your music served as a wonderful distraction and source of healing during the 90s, early 200's when the usual struggles of being a Malaysian Indian growing up in the 90s persist. I'm glad I hear your songs through radios and not streaming services. The joy and anticipation hits differently at that time.

You need to know more about Tamil Rap/ Hip Hop culture in 90s and early 2000s Malaysia. Many groups were there and fans were split in groups and we had gigs. Those born in that era are above 40s now. The artist you mentioned above are current gen but nothing much to say. The feel is not the same.

When Valavan released in India we already had over 10 years Tamil Rap history here. Multiple groups and entire culture of hip hop/rap,fans and gigs. So it was ahead of it's time for India. Things might have failed big. Also like YogiB said he was doing it in English in 90s and we were used to the culture.
