There’s loads of good new artists about, they’re just hard to find as radio stations only play the hits. Try Stone Foundation, they’re a good new soul band. Aldo listen to Gary Crowley’s show on BBC Radio London on Saturdays at 6 pm (BBC Sounds app). Gary plays all the good stuff from 80s and 90s with a good dollop of new artists. New stuff is hard to find but it’s out there!

Dan Auerbach (producer of this album) has brilliant stuff (with the Black Keys as well), John Mayer’s latest album ‘Sob Rock’ has that 80s vibe going, Michael Kiwanuka, or even more ‘modern sounding’ stuff like London Grammar, Agnes Obel, Birdy’s latest album ‘Young Heart’, Ane Brun - “How beauty holds the hands of sorrow”, Laura Mvula - “Pink noise” (very 80s again), Andrew Bird - “My finest work yet”….. need I continue? lol

I found out about Yola about two hours ago and I am DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE. Her voice is so rich and has such drive. She's incredible. Can you imagine her singing the theme for whatever James Bond movie comes after No Time To Die? :D :D :D

I’ve listened to all types of music in my life ranging from Mozart to Bowie…..but I still get goosebumps listening to Yola……couple that with watching her videos makes me think she has one of the purist voices and tone in her field…amazing acoustics and I congratulate your amazing gift…… your are the voice of the moment

Same here. Was just sitting at my computer on a Friday night reading about disasters cross the world, and suddenly in the background, on late night PBS, I hear this rich, resonating voice singing some country selection, and I just had to turn and see where it was coming from. Best voice I've heard in ages, but since I tuned in after it started and didn't pay attention at first, I didn't catch the name. Then I noticed the name "Yola" on the drums and had to look it up. I rarely buy music anymore because I hate the yowling and screaming many call music, but this lady is now on my list.

This song legit almost made me cry. It has the sound i grew up hearing on the radio in the kitchen in the am. I'd hear it from my bedroom and walk around the corner from the hall... and there was grandma. Grapefruit cut in half with a spoon in it and sugar across the top.... and a hot pot of folgers on the counter. It sounds lame but this has that "Light 100.5" easy rock vibe. I can hear Barbra Streisand singing this.... or Marvin Gaye.....

Black girls have so much soul in their hearts and Yola's voice just does it for me. I'm glad her raw talent is getting the exposure she needs to cast her into the limelight where she definitely deserves to be. After a manic couple of years of muzzled nonsense in our lives, how refreshing it is to hear some sweet new music from a talent like Yola. The best of luck with your music girl. Gav$Gang in Scotland.

Just like listening to a classic soul tune from the heyday of soul music. She sings with depth, feeling and conviction with a natural voice that pulls you in. I'd not heard of Yola yesterday... but I know I'll be hearing a lot more of her tomorrow 😍

I also discovered Yola through Radio 2. Thank god for a station that plays such an eclectic range. Yola has such a smokey, soulful voice with songs the stem to have a 60s/70s vibe.

I heard this song on a KZfaq and and actually watched the ad. I was enthralled but right as the song was ending my husband hit the skip button! I did get the her name!!! Ughhh! That was well over a year ago. Fast forward to today. To my great surprise, I saw a quick segment that Yola is being recognized at the AMA awards!! I went “OHHH!! THAT’S HER!” That’s want good music does to you. You’ll remember it even years later! And here I am!! I am now a fan!!

I saw her in Houston with Chris Stapleton. I dreaded this show as I don’t typically listen to country. But as great as Chris and Jamey Johnson were, Yola blew them away. Listened to her on iTunes all the way back home to Baton Rouge. Very ‘70’s!
