*Thanks dude!!! The reed valve fell out and I was lost. I put it in backwards and it did NOTHING. No harm done thank God! I watched your video and I was up and running in 5 minutes,,,,, Make that 20 minutes as I had to replace 6 other O-rings that worked fine before. I would HIGHLY SUGGEST that you and EVERY YONG HENG owner buy 2 or 3 of these "O-RING" rebuild kits on ebay or amazon before you need one again and YOU WILL. MY error was my cooling water was scolding hot since it was 114 F. out today. While I was knee deep in dead varmints and the hunting was GOOD. Here's the funny part. After rebuilding my compressor it now works 35% faster and is way more powerful!!! Gets to 4000 PSI twice as fast. Makes me think I inadvertently fixed a factory defect of some kind. IT REALLY KICKS ASS NOW!!! This goes down in my memoirs as the first ever case of "IF IT WORKS GREAT, FIX IT AGAIN JUST FOR THE HECK OF IT". Note: I am glad I was using an expensive high quality crank case lub like my Mobil 827 Rarus synthetic lubricant. The 827 rarus saved the whole compressor from guaranteed Armageddon. The main reason I say this is I have at least 100 hours on this compressor and the top of the tiny piston looked very clean. My older Yong Heng which was beyond repair used number 46 hydraulic fluid and it's great if you want to start a carbon manufacturing plant! Please please please, if you can read this post use only Mobile 827 Rarus crank case fluid!!!! Keep the fill level about 1 or 2 mm over the red dot since during use it goes below the red dot. THE RARUS 827 LUB REALLY ROCKS!!! I always thought a lub was a lub if you changed it often enough. I learned the hard way, not a cheap way to learn!*

@@sambocotton5868 Yes I think you nailed it on the head. I now think that my tiny reed valve was installed a bit sideways in China. It does not even have a guide notch on it! Who would do that? It's free-floating for Gods sake! Idiots! If the reed does not line up with the tiny hole on the top of the mini head it works like shit! I used a laser and got it together with tight tolerances and like I said, 35% more power easy. Well that's the quality you end up getting from people who go to work in their PJ's, lol. Cheers Mate.

Thermodyne Systems Haha yes your right there, idiots....thank god you’ve got Trump to sort em out we need him over here!!!!! In the mini head there’s another reed valve also that you get to by carefully pushing out the plug (from where the final high pressure air comes out the top if that makes sense?) basically the other side of the reed valve inside of the mini head! I didn’t even think about that when I did the video and I haven’t even used it much since either as I found an old 60’s Siebe Gorman divers compressor that used to have a 4 stroke Clinton engine fitted but I put a single phase electric motor on it and cleaned out all the check valves and made up a stainless manifold for the output and it works great, not as fast pumping but it’s made properly and I don’t have a constant adrenaline rush when using it like I do with the Yong heng dangerous PITA cheaply made widow maker 😳 .......😆😆😆 All the best!

ABSOLUTELY GREAT VIDEO "MATE" ! Thanks for the detailed description of every move you make (sounds like a song doesn't it?). It has been very helpful in repairing , maintaining my HY compressor. I would like to add that I have had mine running for over 3 years now without any problems on the same oil in tropical conditions. I have added extra air cooling of the air pipes cooling, always use cool water, have added a little bit of oil to the water to keep the alu parts from corroding. I had a major incident which could have been catastrophic when I accidentally forgot about the compressor running and when I remembered it was the pressure was at around 12.000Psi !! Compressor was still running, no damage at all but I had to change the regulator as the pin tended to get stuck as it must have been stressed by the over-pressure. It was the only time I left the compressor alone and I learned the hard way. On the other side of this experience it was amazing that nothing bad happened and that the compressor held out. Only now, months later an air leak appeared at the cylinder but it was still pumping the tank up to 4000Psi ! I decided to give it major maintenance and that's when I discovered a 2d leak the longer output air pipe. This may have happened when I took it apart as it may have become brittle over time although I was very careful not to stress it. I have ordered a set of replacement pipes. I might also add a little oil cooler with a 12 v pump as I noticed the oil tends to get quite warm. I normally compensate for this by putting a cold wet cloth over the casing and changing it whenever it gets hot or dry. Your video gives me the little detailed maintenance tips I need to do the job right. many thanks and keep up the great work.

Mine was burned out straight out of the box. Mine's not yong heng, its morphon. But it's the same compressor. They drained the oil before sending it to me but not well. The residual oil that was left was black and smelled like it was scorched. I filled it with fresh oil, hooked it up to a bucket of water and fired it up. It heated up and the temp steadily rose up to the upper limits so I shut it off and just that little bit of running turned the fresh oil tar black. I replaced the oil with fresh oil, filled the bucket with ice water and replaced the water pump with a more powerful one and tried again. The same thing happened. They gave me my money back and wanted me to pay to ship them the compressor. I refused and wrote a bad review on amizon. They contacted me and said I could keep it if I remove my bad review. I removed it thinking I would rebuild the compressor. I just went back to the scuba shop instead. All 7 of my scuba tanks and my 2 scba tanks are empty now and covid has shut down the scuba shop, so it's looking like I'll be rebuilding that pos compressor now.. thanks for posting your videos this the most info I have been able to find on them. Were you able to get it back running? Did you hone the cylinder and replace the piston rings after separating them? Does it matter?

bomberxt That’s a good idea! Do you chill it with ice or is the tank big enough keep it running cool for the amount of time you’re running? I tried using a Tig welder torch watercooler with antifreeze in it but it was hot I’m my workshop and the cooler was already 30 degrees Celsius, so when switched it on the temp of the compressor actually went up before I even fired it up. I stopped it when it got over 50 as the temp was rising fast but maybe I should have given it a little longer as it might have stabilised. I video’d it so might just put it up! Thanks for your comment
@bomberxt
@bomberxt 5 жыл бұрын
Well it was just a suggestion to try and stop the corrosion in the water jacket you are having, I don’t use a bucket/tank myself I use a sealed (well semi) radiator with fan system I built, similar to a car cooling system only in miniature. It’s fitted directly to the compressor so it’s all one unit. It is not as efficient as the bucket of water system but a lot more convenient and only used for top up, for filling of say a 3ltr air tank from empty I need to let it cool down from time to time.

Hi Sambo, excellent strip down guides. I have a Yong Heng copy that’s worked perfectly for along time, but has now started to leak out of the oil breather (the black filter that sits on the oil sump) the pressure starts to drop on the compressor once it’s stopped and then starts to blast air out of the oil breather. do you have any ideas? Take care. Andy

Jeronemo Cherikowa Hi Jeronemo,thanks for the comment! the only trouble with stainless steel is it’s a poor conductor of heat! Better than the non existent manual. Mine is pumping hot air out the intake filter and wont build pressure. I replaced the blown out gasket, but that didn't solve the issue. The big reed had no obvious issues. Mine has. About 3hrs on it. Odd part is everything worked fine the last time i used it. Dumped the pressure off the two dump valves before turning it off.....

I did a maintenance session on mine which happens to be identical but since I did the maintenance by the book I get no compression or high pressure air ouput. I dismanteled it 3 times and redid the maintenance checking during every phase doing so. but stil no high pressure air output. I noticed no damage, did the reassembly following your video but to no avail, Any ideas what could be wrong? I have a hint that it might be one of the check valves that is not stopping the air from returing into the cylinder. Any other ideas? Could you maybe produce a video about what to look out for to avoid this kind of problem? Keep up the great work!

Hey sambo!! Hope all is well. It seems I can’t find much help troubleshooting my Yong heng. It had served me well for 2 years , but unfortunately it had failed me today. I have no idea where to start or what to replace. Both air chambers are holding pressure, but it just won’t go past 1500psi ( I usually fill my 100cu 4500 guppy tank , all the way to 4500. Never had a problem until today ) I do notice of a crank close the release valve (with a bit of force from a wrench) on the second chamber it will climb to 2000psi but if I hang tighten it will fall back to 1500psi and just float there running. I don’t know what to do. I can’t fill my tank anymore. Any help would be appreciated. I’m prepared to take apart, but I have no idea what to replace or look for , like I said.

Sambo, use distilled water instead of tap water for cooling your compressor. pour 2 gallons into your bucket. To cool the water, freeze some water bottles filled with whatever water you like. But since the frozen water is contained inside the water bottle, it can't contaminate the distilled water. Just toss the frozen water bottles into the bucket with your distilled water. When finished, you can reuse the distilled water. Since the process for distilling involves turning the water into vapor, then re-condensing it back into a liquid form, it's free of minerals. You will have zero corrosion or mineralization inside of the water chamber. Just a suggestion, but a cheap and easy fix.

@sambocotton5868 5 жыл бұрын
TheDjango1 Hello Django, the safety valve is there to stop the first stage from over pressuring you don’t have to do anything to it, it’s just a simple valve held shut by spring pressure and if the pressure goes past the preset it will lift off its seat to vent it! All the best 🙂

weweko kowe Hi Weweko, heat is a byproduct of air being compressed, and all Compressors will get hot! But if there’s any low flash point petroleum based lubricant present it can and will ignite causing dieseling which is exactly how a Diesel engine works, the high compression of air is the ignition source and also the source of oxygen needed to support the combustion! Thanks for your comment

Lance Weyrich Hello Lance, yes I’ve had a couple go as well, you should have 4/5 spare burst discs that came with your compressor. You’ve got to be very careful putting the new one back in because my one was loose and kept falling out, in the end I tipped the whole compressor up 90 degrees (vertical) to make sure the olive piece that holds the disc went in properly cause I buggered one up screwing it in without realising it and the disc had fallen out!!!!! @@sambocotton5868 Thank you for the reply. That's not the problem . There is a full stream coming from tle pump and through the hoses. I am using your video to do a top end build and will look for the problem as I do the work. Am I wrong thinking the water has a unobstructed path through the compressor? I'm thinking there may be debris blocking the water passage.

Vinny C Hi Vinney, sounds like you’ve developed a leak somewhere, maybe switch it off when it gets to the point it won’t charge anymore and look closely at at the pipe fittings and burst disc nut, might need nipping up a bit! Hope you get it sorted, let me know how you get on

Vinny C Take the head and barrel off and have a look at the piston rings. Some people have had the low pressure piston bashed in where the high pressure piston is hitting the top of the head,(Will Roman done some videos on KZfaq) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZrGmdL1z17bRpWw.html Mine was slightly tapping the head so I removed the brass second stage piston and machined 12 thou off the bottom of it ( the face that makes contact with the first stage ally piston when their screwed together ), if that makes sense! Or try taking off the two high pressure stainless pipes and switch it on, you should have some serious draught coming outta the top of the cyclone separator, if so put the next pipe on and trace where the problem lies. Let me know how you get on, good luck!!!!!

Sambo, I have a question that's got me bewildered regarding these Yong Heng compressors. I was following along with your video and when you split the head and removed the upper part of it ( around the 11:40 mark) I noticed that the reed valve is totally different than the one I saw in another KZfaq video that I watched. In that one he also has a Yong Heng and tears it down. I was under the belief that they were all the same design other than voltage, safety shut off options, etc., but now I see there are other differences as well i.e. the reed valve. If you wouldn't mind and get the time could you possibly watch this video ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hbuJnNaWqtOpfnU.html). It starts at about the 4:00 minute mark with the head removal. I'm curious to see what you think about the differences. Both of your videos are from around the same date so I'm thinking they are both about the same age. Thanks a bunch my friend!
@sambocotton5868

Thomas S Hi Thomas, I’ve watched the video you sent the link to, and it’s exactly the same principle but the reed valve is just a disc with a small hole in it instead of a specially shaped one! ( which will probably last longer) When the piston descends the pressure from the first stage already waiting in the pipe opens this disc filling the second stage cylinder, and when the piston comes up on the compression stroke it it forces it shut and opens the other reed valve in the top of the head forcing that one open and allowing the high pressure through, and again when the pressure is past that disc it forces it shut! (hope that makes sense)I should have taken the whole thing apart, you can push the whole valve assembly out, its just sitting in the head sealed with a couple of O rings. All the best

Hello, ive bought one of these and after just 10 charges of my fx impact mk3 the pump won't compress at all.. typical ch**ese crap, but air is escaping from the first stage safety valve.. that red capped valve on the left ..i ordered a spare from the internet but as there is no information on the rating (pressure) of the yong heng one I have no idea if the one I ordered is the correct pressure, and it blows off even more !!! i think it was rated at 175 psi ..so the question is why does the safety valve blow, Im pi**ed off that after just 50 minutes of run time over 10 days its allready junk..and planning to get a ful refund..the importer doesnt have any spares !!! nice so they are just as bad...however looking at the videos I have seen it looks like the only solution to filling your own gun directly is to buy a chinese one and nurse it continously repairing it every 50 minutes !! Has anyone had this 1st stage failure ? and what was the cause ? as no one else makes a decent afordable compressor under 2500 euros (yes im in france) li looks like ill be taking it apart constantly to repair it .. colin

looking at the aluminium corrosion maybe we should be using good quality antifreeze or coolant inhibitor . I have always drained my cooling pump after use .. maybe it would be better to use an inhibitor , My 20 year old VW Caravelle water pump and cast iron cylinder were spotless after over 200,000 miles I use the best quality antifreeze .and there is no sign of any corrosion or rust .

I didn't even put a new one back, not even sure why it's there to be honest, the dowty seal should seal everything just fine.
