I never got a chance to play the first, and when it came out all I heard was good reviews then recently I started hearing "oh it doesn't live up to banjo" or something along those lines, and now it's a side scroller? This series has made me very confused

@@sethmorrow1684 Short summary from what I know. 1. Former RARE employees wanted to revive collectable platformer genre 2. They did like an Indiegogo thing to raise money to make the game 3. The game got above average or good reviews which seems fine 4. Playtonic was disappointed with the reception it got and decided to change the sequel 5. And then the sequel turned into a DKC styled game getting better reviews.

Yooka Laylee left a bad taste in my mouth. It felt like they just didn’t know how to make a collectathon. I believe that this will be good, though. Something simple and fun. Definitely picking it up later

I loved it. But I'm a Banjo Kazooie fanboy. The game could've been longer but considering it was a start up project by a small company I think they did a good job.

Ah, quality 2d platformers. It's been a while since we saw one (since Sonic Mania). Luckily indie developers are at it and lately a lot of them are coming out (Indivisible, Trine 4, Yooka Laylee).

Hopefully, this will turn people around when it comes to Yooka-Laylee and Playtonic Games as a while. These guys know what they're doing, they're video game veterans. I'll admit, as much as I like Yooka-Laylee, it might have been a bit too ambitious for Playtonic's first outing as a developer, not to mention it feels like they forgot some of what made Banjo-Kazooie and the collect-a-thon genre so endearing in the first place, but it still wasn't as bad as the reputation it got. I also hope people don't assume that just because reception was lukewarm to the first game that they're "Abandoning ship" or "sweeping that under the rug", since Playtonic has always made it clear that they intend to make games in multiple genres, and naturally, they intend to make a true follow-up to the first Yooka-Laylee in the same 3D collect-a-thon platformer style.
