From the name of the Prussian General Yorck, Beethoven's march is also known as Yorckscher Marsch or Marsch des Yorck'schen Korps (Armeemarschsammlung II, 103 (Armeemarschsammlung II, 37) and Heeresmarsch II, 5), was composed in 1808 in F-Major as a "Marsch für die böhmische Landwehr".

I think we can all agree that Yorckscher Marsch is Beethoven's second best composition, after the Ninth Symphony, and that the dispute is extremely close

Yorck got cashiered from the Prussian army in 1777 for denouncing looting by his superior, and spent a year imprisoned in Fort Friedrichsburg, Königsberg. On release Frederick the Great denied him employment so he served with the Dutch in the Caribbean and the French in South Africa, before returning to Prussian service after Old Fritz's death.

Auf YT gibt es leider viel zu wenige Versionen mit dem Trio - umso schöner, dass hier eine neue ist! Dass der Teil in piano nur 1 oder 2 Takte anhält, gefällt mir hingegen nicht so wirklich.
