Hi of Yes we received 2 when we got home also I was aware of one as it was a toll and drove through not knowing , you can actually buy pre paid toll cards at fuel stations along the road they start from €5-10-15-20 so we bought a 20 and 15 you register them on line so was surprised when we got home , if they hadn’t registered them we would owe 100 plus , when we got into Spain I went back on line and we owed nothing and was really surprised when they came through post one is £12.97 other is £39.85 So we went online and disputed the fines , I did take screen shots of the website saying we owed nothing with reg on on picture of pre paid cards we bought so now we will just have to wait , I will be giving Portugal a wide birth next time , good vlog showing how to avoid if you don’t know 👍

Hi Jof Just in Portugal at Pinhel! 2 nights and loving it. Haven’t used the tolls yet and am trying to avoid them. I have registered my credit card with easy toll for a month, who supposedly take the fees off your card weekly. However, you’re supposed to get an email which confirms registration. As yet this hasn’t arrived, although I did get a reference number when I submitted the application. Not moving until tomorrow, so I’ll think I’ll leave sat nav set to ‘avoid tolls’ as we’re not in a rush. Reassuring to hear that the fines aren’t horrendous though, if we did mess up. Yep, happened to us. We were driving in February a few years ago and commented how lovely the roads were - almost empty! Clearly, the locals avoid them like the plague.

Depending on what you’re using as your sat nav, in the settings you should be able to adjust to avoid tolls, avoid motorways etc. xxx 😍😍 so it will always show those routes first and then the tolls etc will be further down the list ❤️❤️

As others have said you can go to the official website where it tells you the ways to pay toll card/register a debit card with your registration number. When we went west along the Algarve we came off the junction before the toll started and went along the national road

Hey Jof We just registered our credit card before we left online then when we got to the border from spain we had to put credit card in and they take off any charges you incur but we never want on any tolls ❤

Also we found that it would only except our credit card, not our debit.

I was always led to believe that EU countries cannot get details from the UK government about UK-registered vehicles? Therefore they cannot fine you? Some French are currently fighting the UK in the EU courts about being charged the Congestion Charge in the UK.

So confusing all those tolls, puts me off going.

I bet it cost them more to Find you, than to Fine you
