I have been feeling lost in my career for many years now. My worst experience was losing both my dream careers because I had to quit being a teacher in Japan because I was bad at the job and got sick, and then when I got back home I failed the necessary qualification to be a translator, and seeing everybody else pass and move on to successful careers was so painful. I had to start again doing something completely different that was never my dream, and felt really lost about it. I thought because life is short, I had to find out what my purpose was very quickly, but the more I thought, the more lost I felt. It was really encouraging to hear you say it's okay to be lost, and your video made me think that maybe it's better that I did not succeed. Back then, I was not a humble person and I was very immature. If I had succeeded, I think I would have stayed that way or even been encouraged to be like that even more, and there would have been big problems had I carried on like that. So while I still don't know what I want to do, I feel like I've been able to grow a lot and become a better person because of those failures, and in a way I'm glad that it happened that way. Sorry for the wall of text - I hope somebody can find it helpful!

A famous Indian philosopher (J. Krishnamurti) has said - "to be vulnerable is to be alive, to be invulnerable is to be dead." I think about that all the time, especially when life is painful. Thank you for all you KZfaq videos, Miku-sensei!

Hi Miku. I just want to say that I'm feeling lost right now, going through a really rough patch. I want to become an English teacher, but my family doesn't see this with good eyes because teachers don't make as much money, or so people say. And I was about to get a really good teaching job but I lost that opportunity unfortunately, so now I don't really know what to do, who I want to become. It's funny you said that you felt lost, for a while I was really inspired by you, your teaching methods, your personality. I guess I just want to say that you make a change in other people's lives, even if we're far apart, you're inspiring Miku, as a teacher and as a person. Keep being yourself.

I tried telling my family i’m feeling lost but all they said was “you’re still young you can’t feel that way at your age” at the moment I’m no longer feeling lost I’m just feeling guilty about not workin on myself earlier I have a lot of regrets that I want to let go of I also want to let go of what others think of me because it’s really stressing me out like you said feeling lost helps you acknowledge what you want in life . Life is not perfect but it has both ups and downs life is like a roller coaster you should focus on what you want rather than focusing on what others want from you because whatever you do you can’t please everyone there’ll be always people out there who think that what you’re doing is wrong even if what you’re doing is wrong sooner or later you will figure it out yourself

I similarly went through the same phase. Half way through college, I realized I was staggering behind. And it wasn't because I had a hard time with studying, I was one of the top students, but I lacked motivation and passion. Then I began distancing myself, becoming depressed all the time, couldn't engage in conversations normally in class and came home crying every night. After that I took some time reflecting and blamed it all on my lack of self-confidence. I searched ways to become more confident and slowly by slowly in the process of that, understood that I didn't have a goal. I had lost my purpose and that was the reason why I was struggling. When I became honest with myself and found what I really wanted to do, I went back on track.

These kinds of videos really set you apart from the other teachers. I also thought you were this constantly 'genki' teacher and from my own experience I know that as teachers we always try our best to spread a good atmosphere to students! I also think that in Japan this is a topic that is not talked about much (my Japanese friends would never do that...) and I like that you're teaching us how to express our 'feelings' more in Japanese. Thanks so much for the content!

I am 71 years old. I have been around the block a time or two. A couple years ago, I had a minor stroke. I am trying to live now so as to avoid a more major stroke. In the meantime, I have been studying Nihongo. I have spent a lot of time on Duolingo. While that is ok, your videos are very helpful. They bring more. I enjoy them very much. Unfortunately, I feel like I am very far behind your life. 8 months or so. Your videos are very meaningful to me. Please keep it up.

I like the metaphor of the seasons. It's like how winter is a time when the trees will lose their leaves, and so you might also take a chance to examine your life and let go of certain parts to create room for new change.

Thank you for that podcast/KZfaq message. I recently subscribed to your KZfaq channel as I've started taking Japanese lessons as I have a bit of free time now. Like you, I've been 'lost' for a while too. I wasn't expecting this kind of message from this channel - but am very appreciative of the fact that it came my way. We are all a little lost at various times in our lives - some more often than others. Hope we all find our way someday!

Thank you so much for posting this video. I also feel lost and a lot of what you said really resonates with me: being impatient and quickly wanting to “get back on track” and having a hard time seeing this as a chance to learn more about myself.
