Agustín Lara, the composer, dedicated this song to his friend, José Mojica, a mexican actor that decided to become a catholic priest and leave all the fame and recognition as an actor. Sadly, in this translation, the whole sense of the song is missed.

My family and I are Puerto Rican so my parents have a lot of Latin CDs. About a chunk of them have different versions of this song, but in Spanish. My Spanish needs a lot of work, but I always recognized the melody from this movie.

Vahan Nisanian Sadly she passed away over the summer of 2018 at the age of 100. I actually tried to look her up to see if there were old interviews of her but there weren’t any.😔
