July 13th, 2016 This week Dr. Michael Dorer continued to explore an important topic for elementary teachers, How Can You Teach it All?
Many Montessorians struggle with the immensity of the whole curriculum, especially at the elementary level. There just seems to be so much. At the same time, they may grapple with how lessons should be planned, presented, completed, and followed up. These issues can actually be approached with a careful planning procedure, along with a healthy serving of gumption.
Join Michael as we explore lesson planning, curriculum and managing follow-up work. This is the beginning of a new direction in your school.
In this and the next webinar, we will explore the basics of lesson and curriculum management. This will serve as an introduction.
This fall, the Montessori Foundation will launch a new in-depth mixed media course for guides and school leaders to really understand and share these issues, while developing a higher level of proficiency.
This is an ongoing program of free webinars sponsored by the Montessori Foundation's Montessori Leadership Institute. For 24 years, The Montessori Foundation has nurtured, inspired, and supported the development of strong, successful Montessori schools around the world.
Each week on Wednesdays at 1 PM Eastern Time in the USA (GMT -4) The Montessori Foundation leadership hosts interesting guests or explores issues of importance to Montessori schools and educators everywhere. Often our focus will be on an issue that we feel deserves a fresh look (one example: The fundamental importance of the extended uninterrupted work cycle.), or a new solution to longstanding concerns.
Sign up for the series and you will have a unique log-in link. We will send you a reminder of each week's session and a description of the topic.
Here is the link to sign up for the live webcasts.

Each webcast is recorded and is placed into the International Montessori Council's (IMC) Members' Resource Center. Members can watch the webcasts whenever they wish.
It is inexpensive and easy to join the IMC. Membership is not based on where we took Montessori training or any other Montessori organizations to which we may belong. The IMC is here to help. It serves Montessori schools world-wide and the men and women who work the magic within them.

First, this video was amazing and allowed me to see many foundational concepts in teaching elementary Montessori that have helped me grow tremendously. Thank you for offering your heart and knowledge to us. Also, there were a few times through this video that it was mentioned that there are resources that we could download from this video. Could you help guide me to those resources so I can view and print them? Thank you!

It sounds like you are advocating exposure. Are you saying that teachers should be exposing the children to different skills and concepts?

Of course. Montessori education is designed to inspire a love of learning, the skill of learning how to learn new things both independently and with the guidance of a great teacher (we call our teachers guides), self-discipline, and intrinsic motivation rather than external rewards. We want joyful learners, which is common among most children if you begin when they are very young, treat them with profound respect, establish a culture of partnership, and remember that people learn in different ways and different paces. While there are always benchmarks to meet, we design schools to meet children as distinctly different individuals; I.E. we design for differences. We encourage children to not only cover the basics (that which is required), but consciously work to broaden their sense of interest and wonder in as many areas of culture and technology as we can. We think of this aspect as being like sowing wild flower seeds.. Not everything needs to be tested. We expose children to loads of things, and see what ignites their interest.
