A hard wax oil made in Germany called OSMO is the best oil out there. Wish you could show more about how you did the legs with the spikes?

Very good advice about how the rack affects the sound of your system! Instead of all your components being square to the front of your rack, try toe in and toe out on the components, actually use them to diffuse the reflections, and cover the TV with a blanket when not in use. I believe you will hear an improvement in the soundstage and instrument separation. Keep up the good work!

It looks great, and I trust your judgement that it helps the system sound better. The solid aluminum legs and bolts are going to make a strong structure that resists tilting/racking on the diagonal. This is called a "moment connection" and if it wasn't good enough, you would need to have corner braces instead.

I'm in the US as the inexpensive option for good wood is to buy butcher block countertops. I did something similar and built a standing desk instead of a high fi rack, and I also used Rubio Monocoat! Despite the name, you should definitely do two coats.

very nice rack.i made my own racks when I was serving in the RAF back in the 80.90s cost a fraction of the ones sold in the hifi shops.

I really like the design of this. I just bought a Copland cta 405 integrated valve amplifier. It's heavy (30kg) and it needs a lot of air. So I would put it on top of this with my turntable and only have one compartment under for blu-ray player and accessories. And then the TV goes on the wall.

I think the biggest effect on the sound comes from changes in sound reflection in the room. Different shape, different materials, whether it works as a reflective surface or as acoustic panels on the wall. Another good idea is to get a sturdy used television-stereo level. They only cost a few dozen bucks. I bought one in a second-hand store a few years ago for my 50 kg TV. The sides and bottom have good levels for my stereo equipment.

You just need side panels. No need for different equipment and moving the speaker around. The side panel helps to achieve better stereo image + adds thick natural body to the sound.

Nice job and looks good too. I still use IKEA bamboo cutting boards with sorbothane feet to decouple equipment from each shelf as well.

Several thousands into hifi. Start with a pi2aes mercury streamer and save a lot of money chasing better audio. Amps, dac:r2r, speaker, cables are small increments..

i made a $14,000 rack for about 200. steel tubes filled with sand and bird shot as are the tubes. all welded up. nice rack. never said that to a man before. lol

i also did my hi-fi furniture either than a wood with lot´s of strenght i in the parts that are not showed re-inforced it with a steel sheet cut to the shelfs measures, making it even harder like a chassi in all support parts and shelfs ,it´s stayed very cheap

The Rack is excellent I don't really need an explanation as I've worked in Fabrication for some 48 years. What is a surprise is I never transferred the construction technique from the usual narrow Racks you normally see high end equipment housed in. Now when I make one and I will I just won't be using the sold aluminum leg spacers. I will use All Thread metric equivalent to 5/8 inch then sheath the all Thread with recessed holes and decoupling the segments with rubber isolation washers. I'm not sure at the moment which approach I'll go with to isolate the floor for the Rack. So, I gathered your old set up was reacting to microphonics and reproducing them thru your system. Interesting. So, I couldn't help but notice you aren't using Kef LS 50's. So, what are those speakers? They look reminiscent of Emotiva B2+ only instead of Black in a wood veneer and instead of a folded ribbon twetter a soft dome I presume?

It's a really important point to consider the conversion of currencies weighed against rave reviews. No doubt the UK rack is competitive in the Uk- maybe outstanding, but once you do the math in your own country with its own additional costs , the proposition/ reviews should be readjusted- unless, of course, the company is one you wish to support.

I would add cork to the platforms; to reduce the resonant frequencies of the wood 🥁✌

If your rack influences bass performance, probably other furniture will too. Did you make the diffusers yourself too?

Too complete deaden and take out any resonance of the wood panels, pieces of no-rez can be added underneath each panel. They wouldn't be seen if kept a couple of inches back from the front edge, and would completely deaden the rack.

It's an acoustic invader preamp - possibly one of the most expensive (IIRC) when I bought my more basic model from him. He wanted to sell me one, but it was too expensive for me. It will be interesting to hear the review and whether it's appreciably different from the more basic model.

Like is the top portion balancing on spikes? So it would fall over if you walk into it by accident?

What diameter is the aluminum legs? looks like about 1.5" or 3.75cm? I still don't totally understand the allen screw on the top. Do the threads of the allen screw engage the wood before engaging threads in the aluminum legs? if shelves were empty, would the top shelf just be able to be lifted up off the spikes? 1.5" aluminum bar stock is $1.44 per pound here.
