You can STOP fighting gravity and start blow drying. Using a diffuser will result in much bouncier results for all curl types, especially wavy curls. Using a little heat will help set and lock the curls into place much more efficiently and effectively than not. Just make sure you are using a product with heat protection to the hair, which is already built into so many products. See below for my faves and for some expert tips while diffusing, see these videos:

When I used to wear my hair curly, I would air dry until about 50% dry and then finish with a diffuser. It’s the regimen that worked best for me. Diffusing right off the bat resulted in less defined curls and more frizz for me.

I have super curly 3b-3c hair and all I’ve been getting for the past year is a HUGE blob of undefined frizz regardless of what I do! So your problem isn’t a curl pattern or tightness problem, it’s a product and/or stress problem, because extreme stress makes the hair extremely frizzy.

Hi Mel, so I am in my 50's and I'm hating my gray!! I am the first woman in my family with curly hair and you have taught me so much about caring for it. Gray hair is such a different beast though and mine is completely white in sections but, then add curly to the mix and I have no clue what I should do. I am tired of asking stylists who don't know how to deal with my curly gray hair. 🤬 I am wondering if you can do a video on what we "mature" people can expect of our curly gray hair should we wish to proceed with coloring some or all of it. Can you identify any issues that may crop up with coloring curly gray hair and what to do to prevent the problems and care for it? 🤔 Thanks from a fellow curly hair 🇨🇦 in Kelowna, BC.

Yessss, THIS!!! I have Mel’s sister Amanda’s hair, long, thick, coarser curly hair. Well, my hair looked just like hers my whole adult life, but I stopped coloring a couple years ago and now have a mix of white streaks, and salt & pepper. Still LONG. But styling and defining my curls is proving to be more challenging as more grey sets in. The grey strands have a mind of their own lol. Some are more wirey and unruly. It drives me CRAZY! I get compliments all the time from other women, strangers come up to me when I’m out and say- “if I knew my hair would look like that, I’d stop coloring!”, and I can’t tell you how many have said they wish they had the guts to go grey, and I’m like… can you SEE these wirey crazy grays sticking straight up?? Lol! I’m forever trying a new product and while I have OK results, I’m still in search of my holy grail. I’ve tried Curlsmith, Verb, Aveda, AG. Of all the curl creams out there, Tigi Curls Rock seem to give me the most defined, and bouncy curls. I should also add, I live in VERY HUMID South Florida. Winter time is my when I have my best hair days, but it’s been a HOT winter here this year. 🥵

@@ReeNee777 haha same with the crazy grays! I’m going white pretty young (I have maybe 25% white at 32) and the texture difference is crazy! I like a bohemian punk kinda look so it’s okay by me visually, but I’ve lost a lot of length trying to keep one relative color and texture which bums me out

@@RayRay-id3reyes!!! The whiter my temple area gets, the less curl! It does not clump with the brush anymore, I can finger curl, but it’s nothing like the entire rest of the hair on my head which is very curly. For very fine low density hair like mjne diffusing doesn’t work well. It blows my hair around too much and i end up frizzy and not defined but with more volume that doesn’t last past the second day. Ima stick with my easy breezy air drying. I don’t need my hair to look a way it doesn’t want to. I’m happy with it
@selbie06
@selbie06 Жыл бұрын
So I used to have the same issue as a fine, low density girl myself buttt I’ve learned that using the right products + right diffusing method really makes a difference. Usually can’t be bothered to diffuse it though, but now that I’ve started using a leave-in, gel and oil (optional: hair mousse) and starting by hover diffusing and ‘scrunching’ my hair bit by bit with the diffuser, my hair looks even better than it does air dried. ❤

Do not rake the products into your hair, use a Denman brush to style, while brushing, stretch your hair away from the scalp with a slight twist of the brush to get the hair stands straight, don’t scrunch, lightly hold the straight strands and bounce them lightly with your hand, style your hair in sections, don’t put too many creamy styling products, replace styling cream with styling mousse, use a gel with stronger hold, watch different KZfaq tutorials and find what works for you best.. The smallest changes make the biggest difference in curly hair. My favorite styling products are from Curl Smith.

@@db757lbh1 it’s not uncommon for your hair texture to change in menopause. I’m in peri-menopause; my hair used to be a combo of big looser curls with some areas of very wavy hair, fine but a lot of it. Cut to now: I will get a curl here and there but it’s mostly waves now. I’d class it as 2a-2b, depending on the day. It’s also thinned quite a bit. So I’m having to completely relearn how to work with and style my hair. Hands down my least favorite thing about menopause. I kinda have the same problem? I find that on the second hair day, if it's a good hair day, I can just put some water on my hands in run my hands over my hair and that kind of fixes the issue. If not, I put it up and then spray it down with water on the 3rd day, brush it again (and put maybe some products in, but only a little bit) and that fixes the problem too. My hair then stays nice for the next 2 days. Idk why my hair always looks bad on the 2nd day so that I have to brush it all over again. No one seems to have an answer to it. It's not even that I lose my curl pattern, it's that my hair is super knotted, frizzy and without any shine.

I hope this helps but i think you should try a strong hold gell, theres one that h recommend that i am sure wont disappoint, is the dippity do gell, its affordable but really popular in the curly hair community, and it doesn’t leave your hair crunchy if you’re worried, as long as u use a leave in and or a cream before the gell, the cast can be crushed out abd fluffed really easily, but the shape holds itself without the crunch, do give it a try, I didn’t see you mention using a gell so i think this could be it, good luck.

Can you please do in-depth product review of Aveda products? Especially red/pink line? How does it compare to other curly products (Curlsmith, innersense, bouncecurl?) i am in europe and i don’t have access to any of the mentioned products directly but Aveda. However Aveda is expensive. actually the same price Curlsmith and other above mentioned (I know crazy, this is because of extra tolls and VAT). However very few influencers are talking about Aveda (at least what I have seen so far). I would appreciate it a lot 🙏

Can you please tell me what shampoo and conditioner you use on your hair? I'm just starting out trying to restore my curl pattern and I've just been using Pantene Curl Definition, which I'm sure isn't good for my hair, but I don't know what else to use. I think I have medium porosity hair, if that makes a difference.
