I am Canadian, and when I inform my fellow Canadians that we ship live horses overseas for slaughter, they are shocked and horrified. But it still goes on. We need to change the laws.

My daughter and I are big fans of the tv series Heartland. There’s been several episodes where they’ve talked about horses going on the meat truck like it’s just an unfortunate fact of life.

There is work to change the legislation in Canada google BCSPCA. The legislation is about to be changed. It will not allow live horses to be shipped live to slaughter in other countries where it is culturally acceptable to eat horsemeat, however currently horses are shipped live to these countries because the countries do not like the slaughter practices for horses in Canada. So be aware changing legislation to stop live shipping does not mean horse slaughter will end at the Fort McLeod, Alta plant.

Geez, the authorities really need to get off Horse Plus’s back. They are not doing anything illegal by rescuing horses. They are in fact granted that right by the constitution of the United States of America.

@@lc285 She did remark at the end of the video that local Law Enforcement is backing the auction and would arrest them for trespassing if they returned. She said "The USDA Agent said, 'Go Back', but the local Police know that we have been kicked out, so we would end up in jail".

Simple , have your lawyer send the auction a letter stating the U.S.D.A. law about auctions and then go , if you get arrested you will get a huge settlement .

You are buying horses like everyone else that attends the auction or that has land for horses. What you do with them after buying them is your legal business, just as it is for every other buyer.

Amazing how that, as much history the horse has in America, now they're being cast aside like they're absolutely nothing. They're not tools you can throw away. They have lungs and hearts. They feel pain and compassion. And this blatant disregard for the well-being of a fellow creature sharing the same dirt we walk on is extremely upsetting. You're doing great work Tawnee. We all need to start yelling about this. It's unfair.

Curious, are you vegan? I also am horrified that people eat horses, but in Europe they do. If your vegan I understand your issue, but if you eat meat your argument can go towards all of them. In India the cow is revered and they are horrified that we eat them… the dog is eaten in china… killer whales are in swimming pools… and on and on. Before anyone attacks me, I fully support and have donated to horse plus, I owned my dearest best friends horses and dogs and I cringe thinking about any of them being eaten, but cows have been pets, pigs, etc….but it’s the inhumane treatment of the animals that need to be changed to treat every beautiful life with dignity no matter what use they are to be used for.

@kallykat no not vegan. But i do agree with you. We do need to treat all animals much better with more love and respect, regardless of their purpose. I would 100% back better livestock practices, rules and regulations for quality of life and just respecting the animal much more, despite what they are being raised for. I guess just get more riled over horses, because i love them so much too.

Does anyone “ vegan” happen to think Cows and horses are vegan. So that is why god says to be healthy it is ok to eat meat. To provide a healthy diet that you can thrive on. With all essential minerals and vitamins. Forget the diet Michell recommended it lacks to much. Be sensible for your health.

Sadly it begins and ends with getting the laws updated and worded so strongly that they will no longer be manipulated. It may take donations to get a lawyer to write up the laws in such a way and all of us bombarding the house and Senate, our Reps over in writing, calls, petitions until they change the laws and enforce them to the highest.

It's terrible that their defense is that horses are considered livestock. My question is, why is it ok to treat livestock like that? Every living being deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. Not forced to endure pain, fear, and agony. Shame on those people!!!

I really hope that very nice guy can do something about what is an OBVIOUS case of corruption at that auction house AND in that department that keeps sending "inspectors" out with nothing better to do with OUR tax money than harass Hose Plus. Every human that buys a horse at auction is technically a rescuer!!! Rescuing is technically just buying! There is no law against purchasing a horse or multiple horses! I WANT PROOF IT'S ILLEGAL!!! UGH

Your comment is similar to mine, as each Horse Plus employee has the legal right to buy at auction. If each is denied, that's illegal, and I suggest local, legal counsel and intervention since the USDA is offering no solution. Peace and Blessings 🌻🐎

I’m so sorry for you and all the horses 🐴 you could be saving from slaughter, abuse, whatever else they may suffer! It’s almost unbelievable that the law does not allow you to attend a public auction, have a by out program but will allow kill buyers to line their pockets with such ill earned profit! I pray there is something that will allow you to continue to do the lifesaving work you dedicate your lives to. God bless you!!!

I am so sorry about this setback. Don’t ever give up. Someday, somehow the right person is going to see what y’all do and make things right. Maybe your governor could have a talk with your local law enforcement and let them know that you are within your rights to go to the auction.

There are a lot of abuses in our so called civil society. Many of them need to be addressed. You have chosen horses to stand up for. Some choose dogs, some choose cats, some even choose to stand up for chickens, pigs and cattle in commercial meat trade. You guys are doing and HAVE been doing what you can, when you can and you have also "fired up" other people and rescues that love horses. Good job.

@@s.farfal8248 when I clean stalls. Everyday. It's a thorough cleaning , raking. The whole stall. In the morning. And I keep picking up the shit all day while I'm there. With the last thing I do is throwing down the fresh bedding. May it be straw or shavings. This way it stays dry and gets no mold. Even scrub out the water buckets everyday. And I'm talking at least 30 stalls a day.

At first it sounded so good and I was feeling hopeful. You are doing so much to be able to continue to rescue. And everything seems stacked against you. Which is unbelievable! To just go there is also a safety risk if things escalate. Even though it might be your right to go to the auction. I really, really hope something opens up and you can make an example for auctions and rescuers nationwide! It’s really nice to meet you Troy. It’s very obvious you are very connected with the horses. Definitely a great place to work at! And it’s very nice to see Todd again and doing evaluations. There are some really great horses! And Jilly is doing absolutely amazing. Oh Tawnee, my heart is broken for you and the team, this is such a ridiculous situation. Hopefully congress will help to push new laws through Tawnee, as you said, the current laws are ancient and do not belong in todays society. TripleW is a hell hole. The more they try to push you out, the greater the spotlight on their horrendous attitude to animals. If they had half a brain cell between them, maybe they’d realise that what they are doing is hurting their own business. What an unbelievable bunch of Neanderthals. I’m sending love and light to you all Tawnee, what I’ve realised over my life is that eventually, the good guys win over evil. These situations are sent to try us but we only get stronger, there has to be a reason for this to have happened. Poor Tawnee, I feel so bad for her and her fellow staff member. It is never easy. I don't think they should let the kill buyers in at all. They should be outlawed. It's disgusting that this is their job and they are okay with it. I truly hope they can get back in again to save these beautiful horses!

there is a really bad auction house in the central valley in California. the conditions animals are kept in are horrible and when they are presented to buyers and loaded for buyers they are horribly mishandled. to the point where the auctioneer had to comment on how roughly a staff member was handling animals. I rescued my first dairy cow from that auction because I couldn't contain my anger, I needed to save at least one before i left. my dream is to go back and take a whole lot out of that cycle. the people who buy from horrible auctions will also sell these animals back to this auction for slaughter once they're "broken" or no longer useful. the work you guys do is beyond amazing and I hope you never stop rescuing

Not everyone cares about healthy horses, muchless abused ones. I don't think people realize or care what's going on in these auctions. If it doesn't affect them personally, they're just not interested. It's so sad to see these beautiful animals who've suffered tremendous abuse. The abuse continues to the rescuers as well. None of this screams justice and that's for sure. We'll have to put the gloves on, jump in the ring, and fight to the finish. There's always going to be winners and losers...HPHS will win this one. Prayers and donations ~ that's essential in my opinion.

The fact that these kill buyers, and the slaughter pipeline is allowed to continue is horrifying. I'm glad you are talking to the representatives of your state, and educating them on these things. Although I agree that this legislation is important, my concern is that this may increase the numbers of animals that are abandoned and left to their fate. With all of the advocacy that Horse Plus, and like organization have done, but animals are still being sent to slaughter, I fear that the message is not getting to where it should.

Tax every horse sale ....use it to pay for free end of life care for horses....Why not?

@@archangel807 Completely agree; but Tennessee is a so called 'red state' so anything this progressive would take a huge votoing block reversal. Not impossible, but will take alot of time.

it boils down to money, horses are a commodity. Clearly the concern never has been for the horses, as long as business people are making money that's all that is important. So very sad, I wish you success. You are trying to do everything you can.

The USDA is corrupt! This is ridiculous! The auction is run by liberal owners. Keep doing what you’re doing to save the horses. Thank you for rescuing them from slaughter. ❤🙏

Zero chance those auction owners are liberals. Lmfao love it when conservatives can't understand that their political party is the root cause of the things they don't like.
