I love Gambia and lived there before. I designed and had the carpenter make all my furnitures and the result was great. You should absolutely ask local carpenters to make your furnitures and they also appreciate and need the job.

Gambia has highly skilled carpenters who produce made to order or customized furniture. The more we patronize them the more young people see a future in carpentry. Less Backway.

Not all MG just some and as they don’t have set prices I’ve been happy to jump on eBay and show them the U.K. price and tell them to come better or this item will sit here for years with no sale. You’ll be surprised how quick they drop the price to a local buyer price 💆🏾‍♀️

Why would anyone choose the used furniture when it's possible to have custom pieces made? The pieces made by the craftsmen are BEAUTIFUL and do reasonably priced!!!

The custom made is definitely a good option for me I loved how easy it was to get what I wanted made. Even a book shelf I got made in one week. Only problem is not everything can be made 😔

Experienced this in Ghana. It is funny because I kept saying I wanted new items and they kept taking me to second stores until they took me to the mall where they had new items.

There are many stores that sell new items. They make beautiful hand carved furniture in The Gambia. Just ask your driver where the stores are located. You can obtain everything you want new. When return I will take you on a great shopping trip.

Aarrrhhhh you sent me down Gambia's memory lane ... I have been back in Coronaville aka the UK for six months now. I truly sadly miss my time there. I did get the feeling that Gambia and many o the other countries that I have visited in Africa have become the dumping ground for Coronaville's rubbish that would otherwise end up in a landfill site. As well as being the place for China to sell all of their cheaply made poor quality goods. Our people deserve better.

I'm that person who will walk away the moment Continental Afrikans start talking crazy when it comes to pricing. I will wait, go someplace else or just ignore the seller while I look at something else or (again) leave. Then all of a sudden they want to start lowering the price.

YESss!!! The changing of the prices I quickly learned to just window shop and send someone back to buy whatever I wanted. Even got to a point where I drive when there because it’s maddening the cost going is higher than coming with a cab.

who needs brand new stuff? Second hand is recycling ultimately. I lived in NY, Florida, Louisiana Pittsburgh and wasted a lot of money buying new things. Past 12 years back home in Kenya I wear second hand clothes only formal suits are new. I've had a cardigan for 12 years second hand it's falling apart but who cares?

I buy second hand a lot and did in uk too. I decide what I want to pay and walk away if I don't get it for that. I think I pay more than most Gambians would so if I have to walk that's because the seller is just greedy. It's a little frustrating if I want something specific and can't find it. I may have to wait months for it but living in Gambia has taught me patience.

Yeap...I sold next to Africans at Flea markets...they had "unrealistic prices." I negotiated & chipped away and left with a pocket full of money and they none. It showed me Africans shouldn't think all people are "suckers"...they go to a sell in California and make lots of money then come to Ohio and expect to make & sell for the same price...in business one have to use common sense or you won't eat. Customer is the Boss in negotiations, their the ones with the money.

It’s not only the accent, sometimes I wonderful what could it be. 7yrs ago I went to buy some toilets as I was renovating my brothers house for him. I had him go into the store and ask for the price as I waited in the car from a distance. I wasn’t looking like someone from the west at all and I didn’t have no accent speaking Wolof. After my brother came back into the car I went myself about 10mins apart. This fool charged me twice what he charged my brother. I went off on him that as a Muslim he shouldn’t be behaving as such, and I also ask him what it is about me that makes him think I was a walking bank. No answer! I walked off mad 🤦🏿😏

@queen valerie Africa has options, like malls, infrastructure, supermarkets and so much more. They do offer set prices as a way of life. That other is for garage sales.

Oh wow that’s exactly what has happened to me. I got a set price for building 4 days later they “forgot to add this and that” almost doubled in price. Sometimes I think they add shit you don’t need to confuse you and as they assume you got all the money in the world they just take a guess on the increase and pray you don’t challenge it as you have no clue

You are right the only problem with many African countries is those malls and supermarkets are not owned by Africans. 90% of what we buy in the west isn’t owned by us either so it shouldn’t bother us but when in Africa it makes me feel like it’s my duty to buy and possibly build up the local man/women/business so that if more follow they will one day open a supermarket or a mall. I refuse to buy fresh fruits in the supermarkets when I could by in the market from a local but then a load of my weekly shopping is brought in supermarkets that are not locally owned. Although 99% of their staff are of course Gambian so I guess we are still keeping Gambians employed 🤷🏾‍♀️

Buying second hand stuffs in the Gambia is better than buying them abroad and ship them to the Gambia because it might be spoiled or get lost and if you calculate how much you'll buy the stuffs and pay for the shipment it's more expensive. Amsterdam is my favourite because all the prices are labelled so you can't be deceived

It's so wrong to think that these shops will be selling them out in open. Most of these second hand shops are owned by hard working Gambians living abroad. We are quick to judge as black people but reasons people are leaving Europe and America is the stigma. What happened to those victims is as common as what happens daily to the Gambians and its a petty crime compared to Europe or America, even rampant there with all the security technology .my advice is just because you in Africa doesn't mean there are no thieves, keep your guards up same as you will do anywhere round the world to protect your possessions. Gambia is peaceful and safe but petty crime is on rise because there are not many jobs for the youths. Create jobs when you go to repat in Gambia as there are many opportunities for production.

Regarding to the increases of prices, when ever they gives a price half it Normally that's actually price and dont need to have an British or American accent even us iving abroad when they realise that they will try to run you down but stand ground.

Yes all new items are expensive if you ask me as everything is imported. Next to nothing is manufactured in Gambia which just bumps up the price of even the most simple appliances

Yes I will do they had about 4 in that shop but it wasn’t until I went to a restaurant that I even realised what they where. I didn’t ask him the price or anything but I’ll find out.

Be careful not to sell Gambia too short. The first part of your video declared in no uncertain terms that all one can expect to find in Gambia is used goods if I hadn’t watched the video to the end I would not have realized that that is absolutely not true. So one of two approaches may have been better. either do all your research before adding the narrative to your video or edit it when you find that the content is not true. We have had enough half truths about Africa intentional or not.💕

Try to learn how to sound like them anytime you want to talk to them, and use your British accent in your videos or when you want to relate to others like you. I think that will help you alot. Yeah me too.. I have one or two items in my house in U.K. that’s I’ve picked and been so happy cos it was half the price I would have paid. Only issue with Gambia it seems easy to find what you want second hand than brand new. I know many wouldn’t like a second hand dinning table or closet.

There are many furniture shops at Kairaba Avenue but unfortunately they all belong to Lebanese and Indians. They sell all types of furniture and electrical appliances.
