The entire guna cave is a set.. Shyju Khalid in a promotional interview mentioned that the art director Ajayan Chalissery is the unsung hero of the film.. truly an award winning work.. never in a moment we feel it is not the real Guna cave.. Chidambaram said that the only shot from inside the original guna cave is the dream sequence of Subhash... Also you didn't mention about the use of ' Kanmani Anmbodu Kaathalan' song from the Kamal Hassan movie 'Guna' shot in the 'Devils Kitchen' which later changed it's name to 'Guna Caves'.. The song was considered a romantic song before 'Manjummel boys' but after that it has now become an anthem of friendship.. The film is successful in Tamilnadu also.. almost 70% of the film is in Tamilnadu and 40% of the film has Tamil dialogues.. The stories revolving around Guna caves and the guys changing the history will give more interest while watching.. " An malayali athiest becomes a God in Tamilnadu" 🔥

People from states other than Kerala and tamilnadu probably andhra pradesh -telangana , gonna wonder why a romantic songs playing on climax scene, hopefully they will understand the reason behind it.

Kamal Hassan did a great movie called GUNAA in 1991 which bring fame to this cave till date..

I believe that few people were unaware that The Real Manjummel Boys performed in the tug-of-war opening scene. They played as opposite team. Director of Thallumala, Khalid Rahman, played by driver Prasad. Additionally, Chandu Salimkumar son of the great comedic actor salim kumar, and Jean Paul (Lal Jr.), the director of Driving Licence and actor Lal Son, were there.

Trivia- the guy who acted as the driver is Khaled Rehman who is the director of Thallumala.

That song gets more emotionally connected to most of the Kerala audience and Tamil because of the movie Guna…and the way that movie was also portrayed..so those dialogues get a different goosebumps for those who have watched it

5:26 I'll tell you something that can make you more uncomfortable. There is a dialogue in the movie that says the entire Kodaikanal hill can fit in that hole. It is actually about 900 ft deep iirc. Subash fell for just around 150 ft and got stuck( possibly the only fact that saved him). Imagine what happened to the 13 people who are said to have fallen inside. Devil's kitchen indeed. 🙂

This movie is a homage for the nostalgic bond between Tamil and Malayalam brothers . When “Kanmani” song was playing both Malayalam and Tamil 90s were in tears out of nostalgia. ❤

Hopefully, atleast now after so many years Kamal Haasan Sir gets his due for making a Cult Classic movie called "Guna".. His performance in the movie is one of the best in Indian Cinema.. The story, screenplay, direction and most importantly, the music of Guna movie is iconic and legendary!!! Haven't watched Manjummel boys movie, however will definitely watch it.. Malayalam cinema is just killing it with such variety!!!

FYI, the guys with whom the tug of war is happening in the start of the movie is between real Manujummel boys and the movie starts. Director brilliantly wanted the real ones to win in the movie. There much much more minute details and brilliance in the movie which deserves appreciation.

this film is getting a humongous response all over Tamil Nadu bcoz of it's connection with guna film and Kamal sir..😍 I don't know if u will believe what'm going to say now... "we people of TN actually requested "Rakki theatres"( popular theatre group in north TN ) in X platform to add screens in our hometown and u know what they did, they added 2 shows with engs subs for us and I will go tomorrow to feel the film..." the director and movie team said that this film is a tribute to Guna and kamal sir..! the director of Guna film also said in his today interview that " he and Kamal sir got goosebumps, tears in his eyes after watching the whole film and their cant be a better tribute to that film, especially during the climax scene where the kamal sir voice and "Kanmani Anbodu song" the whole theatre in TN went crazy...😍"

Interestingly the tug of war scene at wedding venue was between the real and reel Manjummel Boys, and Chidambaram in an interview said that it was a conscious decision to make the real gang win that tug of war as they deserved it. And huge huge huge credit the the astonishing Art Direction by Ajayan Chalissery. Even after knowing that the Guna cave portions were shot on set, it's hard to believe that while watching the movie.

You missed to say something relevant. There is a 30 year old history. A kamal hassan movie called Guna. In the movie he kidnaps a girl from royalty and hides in these caves. The story is based on Stockholm syndrom. This place was Christianed Guna caves after the movie. The original song by Kamal & Ilayaraja is played when Bhasi is finally pulled out of the cave.THAT moment is the prima dona of the movie. The cave was actually banned for tourist in those days. And cruel kamal had built a concrete wall inside the cave .... I've visited it illegally (sssshhhh) 30 years ago after the movie came out. today I'm 54. The devils kitchen phenomenon happens when mist gets collected on the other side of the mountain and comes out of a hole in the ground inside the cave.... thus getting the name devil's kitchen. Please do research it fully and watch the movie again in malayalam with subtitles and give one more review. Thank you. Enjoy our movies and please not our politics. Have a good one. 👍

Just saw this movie & yes it was a super movie to say the least. Shall recommend you watch the 1990 Malayalam movie “Malootty”…. It’s a “rescue/Survival” movie directed by Bharathan & acted by baby Shamli (she was just 3 then) Jayaram, Urvashi etc..

You made an interesting observation. Kerala film makers need to up their promotion and distribution game. They practically rewrite the standards in every other department and then we have audience who either don't hear about it or don't get a chance to experience it in a theatre. Hopefully, this season will be a lesson.

Malayalam directors and actors trying to make quality movies in different geonors...you said malayalam movies not get pan indian attention...but get attention in South india...especially on Tamil nadu and karnataka...malayalam movies never get 300 crores in theatre..the sad things is the kerala story movie collected 300 crores in india..i think that movie not collected even 1 crores in Kerala... because kerala people know how is kerala... people from outside south india they give that 300 crores collection for that movie...that director try to makes bad message about kerala...i really appreciate you to supporting our movies...
