This song makes me cry every time. A dear friend of mine played Tracy Turnblad in our community theater performance of Hairspray. She was literally born to play the role, she blew everyone away and carried the entire show. It was the last role she ever played. Only a few weeks after the show closed, she died unexpectedly of complications from a routine gallbladder removal surgery. She was 22. Her parents buried her in the blue dress she wore for this number, and every time I think about her, I see her in that dress. That was 10 years ago, and I still cannot hear this song without crying. I'm crying right now just typing this. RIP Kat 💝💝💝

@@yvonnefobbs6232 I made that comment nine years ago. My views have changed. I now like both the go go dresses AND the fluffy ones

@@yvonnefobbs6232 someone pointed it out in another video, but if you look closely, Penny's dress seems to have been crafted from the curtains in her room from 'Without love'. Which makes the hoops in her jacket make a lot of sense. There may have been a missing scene to explain it or an oversight from editors of the movie, but adding a scene where they take Penny's prettiest curtain so something can be tailored for her with no extra cost would have made narrative all the more funnier.

John Travolta took over this character and followed after the drag queen Divine's portrayal with grace, it's such a lovely remake and it's much more kid friendly. I highly recommend watching the original once you've hit 18 cause this hits the love and beauty and the predecessor hit all the harsh truths of the past along with the violence. Though the original isn't a musical it is an amazing movie that shows the true fight for integration where this showed the love found and diversity accomplished with joy with integration.

How is it that John Travolta can dance better than I can in heels even🙄.

same reason Patrick Swayze and Wesley Snipes look better in drag than I do in real life... it sucks being a short heavy set person with big boobs who looks like a circus tent in everything she tries to wear no matter how nicely she tries to wear it.

Amazing to think that the same film distributor that brought us Lord of the Rings also brought us this wonderfully goofy movie! RIP New Line Cinema! You will be missed!
