@@vlogoftea This is straight up wrong. I don't know what magnets they were attaching. Typing this on my M1 Max MBP, 100% not even close to being picked up by the connector

Your meant to snap the cable off. don't pull it straight out instead snap it up or down.

I have one of those Apple OEM extension cord that plugs into my old early 2000’ OEM charger. The one where u swap out the plug with extension cord. Curious if y’all know if that extension cord is recommended to safely use with my newer charger from M1 max 2021 MacBook Pro. Meaning like no issues with any power drop using MacBook under heavy load? I highly think no issues here but couldn’t find a safe answer in Apple doc/specs etc. Thanks and cheers!

Wouldn't it be amazing if you could send the display through the MagSafe. It's a bit annoying having to tearfully put in and pull out the usb c cable when connecting to a monitor.

Almost 40 years of using Macs, and I never fail to weep with joy at the opportunity to hand Apple more money. What a shame that MagSafe isn’t available for the M1 Macbook Air.

I was quite happy with the usbc port on my 13” 2016 MacBook Pro but I’m looking forward to my first experience of Mac safe on my new MacBook Pro 14”

Why did you chose the 14 inch, mate? Not being rude, I am undecided so am intrigued why you chose the 14 inch. Was it a money saving decision? If so, that’s fair enough. I am tempted to get 16 inch but I do like the 14 inch as it will be easier to carry round as I do photography and videography, so will be travelling with it quite regularly. The other thing putting me off the 14 inch is I am worried the 14 inch won’t be able to use the extra power as well as the 16 inch. I will be getting the pro max chip and the last thing I want to do is spend the extra money to find out the 14 inch is slower. If I am honest, I think I am over thinking it because it’s such an investment and I don’t want any regrets! I am sure you will love your new MacBook and I bet you can’t wait to get it! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

So I just purchased a Storm 2 power bank for charging my Macbook pro 14 M1 max on the road. when I charge with storm 2 power bank and the usb c / mag safe that came with the LT and the 100 watt pd on the Storm 2 it only charges at 60 watt, but if I use the same pd 100 watt port from the storm 2 and usb c to usb c on the macbook I get roughly 90 watts? Why the lower wattage on the mag safe when mag safe is supposed to be the higher watt output for fast charge on the Mackbook pro 14 M1 max. FYI the Macbook was under 20% when I tested.

Why can’t the Thunderbolt 4 ports (which support the newer USB4 standard) provide faster charging similar to MagSafe 3? Assuming that the USB-C ports support USB Power Delivery v3.1 you should be able to use the 140W adapter with any port and get fast charging, right? Or is there some limitation going on?

They don’t support PD 3.1, it likely came too late in the development in the MacBook Pros.

Can I use the Magsafe 3 cable with a 20w USB C charger? The magsafe charger that comes with 2021 Macbook Pro is huge/heavy and I don’t want to bring another charger when I travel. I know the charging speed would be slow but that’s ok since the laptop would be charged at night when it’s off.

You can but it obviously charges much slower. I’d recommend looking for a 60W GaN charger to take around. They can be almost as small as Apple’s 20w

I think the 14 is a good size. It is bigger than the 13 and has the exact same specs as the 16"

If I were you, I’d go see them in person at an apple store if you can. Feel the size/weight and figure out what you like. If not, you can see them in AR on the apple website on your iPhone, so maybe you can do that and compare it with your current laptop for size comparisons

Can I charge my macbook pro 16 inch with a usb charger that is less than 96. I have other windows computers that use 46Watt usb to charge. Would that damage my macbook pro 16? Just asking because at the office I have the other chargers and I dont want to lug around the huge 96 watt charger from apple if I don't have to.

Late answer: no worry, if it communicates fine to the charger to deliver more than the standard 5V voltage (in your case 45W which means 3A at 15v) your macbook may charge slower or even slowly discharge under heavy load, brightness. Maybe take a look at a measurement of the power consumption of your model in idle

This thing is pretty strong, I know you are not supposed to pull the cord, That's something my dad taught me way back in the day. But is it safe to push it down/up to unplug? Wouldn't the pins get bent?

Not if your usb c Cable supports your Charging wattage, 140W or 96W or 67W and also your Charger should be able to deliver that wattage

Do you know if it’s possible to put the usb-c end of that cable into my Pro Display XDR for charging and Display Port signal connectivity like it works via usb-c thunderbolt cable?

if you plugged it into the XDR 96 watt charging usb-c port, I don't know why it wouldn't work... it would charge only, since magsafe has power only and nothing else.

Hi , can I use my apple charger type C that came with my MacBook Pro retina 15inch display 2018 model ? .. My MacBook Pro is a write off after hot tea accident 😡. I'm hoping to get the new MacBook Pro 16inch that comes with new magsafe charger . However I would like to be able to use my old charger as a spare ? Is it possible.. thanks Hugh

Because it’s safer, would you rather that 2500$ laptop fall to its death? It supports fast charging too, so you can charge the laptop to 50% in 30 minutes. You have 3 TB ports free to connect whatever you need, like screens. Also thunderbolt 4 supports all sorts of connectivity, charging too…

This frees up a Thunderbolt port for using it for other things. data, hubs, displays, etc. It also is safer than those plugs because it comes free easier. If someone trips over the cord your Mac won't go flying. Finally, it is faster. As I outline in the video, MagSafe 3 can charge at up to 140W while you won't get those USB-C PD 3.1 speeds from the Thunderbolt 4 ports.

@@AppleInsider You know what else frees up a thunderbolt port... not wasting space for magsafe and putting a 4th thunderbolt port. If someone really wants a magnet release system for tripping, why not making it part of the cable system itself, instead of the port on the machine? Such wasted space. The only reason I can see why they did it was for the higher power charging. I doubt they would have put a magsafe on there if they didnt need it just for that.

Well it will charge with the fastest option. So it would use MagSafe most likely. That said, if continuously connected to a Thunderbolt dock, you may as well use Thunderbolt and ditch the other cable.

Meh... I haven't missed MagSafe since I replaced my 2015 MacBook Pro with a 2019 16" MacBook Pro. I thought I was going to miss it, but it never happened. I also never needed to buy or use a Dongle. "Dongle Book" was a KZfaqr lie created denigrate Apple and create click-bait KZfaq reviews. I only needed to buy a single USB-C to HDMI cable to drive my external display. The four USB-C port design (two on the left, and two on the right) was the most elegant and versatile port solution ever. Now, I have to give up one of those versatile ports for a LEGACY HDMI 2.0 and SD card slot .. that I will never use.

the MagSafe port, the old HDMI, and the SD Card are all such wasted space... I agree. Never had a issue with "dongles" kept in my laptop bag if I needed something.

Thanks to the public outcry that Apple returned to this sensible magSafe method of charging with less potential for port damage. USB-C was never a stable connection with the weight of a power cord. Plus, they re-added the SD card slot AND HDMI! Steve Jobs is finally able to smile again. Maybe...
