Fauci openly admits funding research to altering animal pathogens to make them capable of infecting humans. There is no disagreement about that. He just refuses to call it "Gain of Function." Call it whatever you want but that is worthy of asking questions. Getting to the bottom of it is for everyone's best interest. A deadly virus doesn't care about your politics.

Even a politician can have fear of a lab in China manipulating deadly animal pathogens so they can infect humans. On the second point. Fauci's claim is that it would be impossible given the results the Wuhan lab gave them. This plays right into earlier questioning about auditing grant recipients, which they don't do according to Fauci.

Medical definition of "gain of function" from NIH website. " Gain-of-function research refers to the serial passaging of microorganisms to increase their transmissibility, virulence, immunogenicity, and host tropism by applying selective pressure to a culture."

@@samtorr3947 You're wasting your time. Like Rand, his fluffers don't know enough about the issue to recognize a true answer from a false one. Technically, under the specific language of the moratorium on "gain of function" in viral studies, Fauci told the truth. Though the NiH should have insisted that the Wuhan lab use the same precaution level as the one at UNC when working with the virus being studied. That said, the changes to the virus they worked with actually made it less likely to affect humans and greatly nerfed the severity of the disease it causes. Also, it's chemically impossible for what they were working on to have been a source for the version responsible for covid 19 and the latter shows no signs of manmade alterations to it.

If Rand had any clue what he was talking about, I'd agree. The problem is, he really doesn't. Technically, going by the specific wording of the moratorium on "gain of function" viral studies, Fauci's telling the truth. The NIH didn't illegally fund "gain of function" studies. They could have done a much better job of auditing/inspecting the studies they were funding (especially the Wuhan lab) but no laws were broken and implying otherwise like Rand did is simply irresponsible.

I disagree that any sort of investigation is required. Fauci lied before congress. The case is shut and closed there. He needs to be removed from his position of power and held accountable for that, bare minimum. Or that if they died with Covid, it’s stated that they died FROM Covid. And then the nurses being censored, and then the lab leak “conspiracy theory” being censored. This combination right at the get-go of the pandemic primed me to be a skeptic of the narrative and I felt like I was Winston smith throughout the whole thing. And good on you for starting the book. It’s a great read and now one of my favorite books of all time.

Rand Paul, in contrast, was extremely clear and easy to understand, and backed up his claims with resources. Fauci has been vague, he's flip-flopped on important issues, he's told us things that were untrue simply because he thought it would be better if we didn't know the truth. He's constantly appealing to science in his speeches without ever detailing any actual science. He's the king of unclear.

Both of these men are obfuscating. That was the only thing I learned from this clip Obfuscation can be either defensive or offensive in nature. Knowing which one can give you some idea of a persons motivations. Police use this as a way to determine if a person is withholding information. It is never used as a way to DETERMINE truth. Ever. Here's an example; when my friend watched the video and saw Fauci obfuscate he assumed that it was because he was lying. That is a mistake. Plain and simple.. Assumptions are not truths.They aren't anything. They aren't theories. They aren't hypothesize. They are beliefs without value of any kind. Fauci was under attack before Dr. Senator had finished his first sentence, provoking anger and righteous indignation- creating obfuscation. This is not the way to arrive at the truth through dialouge which is the point of this hearing. The next day another friend assumed that Dr. Senator was obfuscating to earn political points from his political base. This too would be an assumption. It could have been the result of honest anger stemming from Dr. Senators OWN assumptions. And here is where the pattern emerges. Assumptions are like parasites which, given time and proper feedback, can mimic truth- and that is how people are misled. You MUST be vigilant in your thinking. Even if these two men are not. God Bless America.
