housing costs in canada damn near doubled since 3 years ago... a shack of a house built 60 years ago in the drug addict filled areas cost over 350000 and may be ok to live in but when you litterally can't let your dog out unsupervised if its friendly cuz it could very realistic get stolen out your yard. or if you have anything visible thats nice or expensive you become a target for theft... and there's no garentee you don't have undiscovered structural decredation from rot or termites/carpenter ants which may cost tens of thousands to repair once noticeable. thats kind of a shit low end for buying a house, I remember when those places would go for 150000 to 175000 maybe less depending. a mid size duplex with condo style restrictions and rules and fees goes for 450000 a nice place but nothing fancy or extra thats actually yours goes for 750000 and up... so like 90 year mortgage if you want reasonable payments. and its also easier for immigrants to get approved then Canadian born citizens in the age range of 20-35ish... its a weird time up north here. I'm in the province with the least effected housing cost increases. I can't imagine how those in Toronto or Vancouver are doing tryna get anywhere with their life when cost of living is getting higher and higher above minimum wage. like someone working 80 hours a week at minimum wage can't afford to live renting a cheap place on their own. its a real challenge with 2 working together, soon to be impossible for 2 working together so thats fun for young couples...😂 fuck us Canadians I guess, government cares about bringing in immigrants than about the people already here

This government in the last 10 years has ruined the country. 1. International student crisis resulting in local students and community struggling 2. Heath crisis - poor health services, weeks and months of wait times to see specialist. Very poor basic family doctor clinics 3. Housing crisis 4. Infrastructure crisis - no new mass transit systems, no major highways, no new airports, poor maintenance of existing infrastructure. The entire world especially the East has improved so much in the last 10 years but Canada has been degrading. 5. Stolen cars from drive ways, car jacking everywhere in Toronto area. Police asking people to leave the keys at the door to avoid confrontation with intruders 6. Immigration crisis - they keep inviting people but no system or plan in place to accommodate/adopt/absorb so many new people 7. Education crisis - school education has degraded and in fact compared to international standards it’s a joke. Ask any parents who have seen other than Canadian education system 8. Employment crisis - not enough jobs to accommodate immigration inflow 9. Inflation crisis - rents, energy, food, groceries everything is through the roof. I can add many other topics here. As a person living in Canada, I confirm that the crisis is real. When we bought our house in 2019, the interest rate was 3.99%. Now, it's at 7.2%. Because the US is increasing their interest rate, Canada has to follow Washington's steps to keep the CAD-USD exchange rate stable. Thus, most people in my city (68% of Montreal's population) prefer renting an apartment over buying a house. Yet, some of the homes are still too expensive or not worth the price when it comes to renting it. We have a home that was set at $2,300 per month and my aunt has one set at $3,600 per month. Both of these homes are too expensive for an average Canadian citizen. The problem isn't solely the unaffordable housing prices, but also the fact that people's salaries don't increase when everything else is in price. Currently, it's exactly the opposite of what caused the Krach Boursier of 1929. Krach Boursier was caused by the excessive consumption and overproduction of goods. Now, it's the lack of consumption which leads to the pain when selling goods.

We increase interest rates to slow inflation. We don't care what the U.S. does. Interest rates don't have a direct effect on the exchange rate, trade is what sets the exchange rate. If the Canadian dollar dips, Alberta oil gets cheaper in the US. The US then starts buying Canadian dollars to pay for it. Canadian dollars become more expensive, thus the Canadian dollar starts to increase in value against the US dollar. Alberta oil may then become more expensive for Americans and thus they buy less which means the dollar drops. The Alberta Conservatives routinely halt production and extraction to drive up the price.

Oh, and the provinces are responsible for housing. Municipalities control zoning. And the province controls the municipality under our constitution. Canada is a confederation of provinces with clearly defined seperation of powers. Trudeau couldn't fire a doctor, or order a garbage man to do anything. In order to compel tow truck drivers to haul away trucks blockading Ottawa streets and border crossings it literally required invoking the emergency act. Hes not even allowed to drive a car.

Trudeau calls them out as “racists” every time they blame the housing crisis exclusively on immigrants, and rightfully so. Examples ive seen 299,999- 499,999 for a 3 bed 2 bath single home in the suburbs around 2012-15 is now 899,999 - 1 MILLION PLUS and thnot nearly as bad as ive seen the house closer to the big cities/downtown area.
