"You Have A Problem With That, Corporal?" | Saving Private Ryan (1998) #shorts #savingprivateryan
Saving Private Ryan is a 1998 American epic war film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Robert Rodat. Set in 1944 in France during World War II, it follows a group of soldiers, led by Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks), on their mission to locate Private James Francis Ryan (Matt Damon) and bring him home safely after his three brothers are killed in action. The cast also includes Edward Burns, Tom Sizemore, Barry Pepper, Giovanni Ribisi, Vin Diesel, Adam Goldberg, and Jeremy Davies.
I've taken the effort to make a beautiful short out of this, which took me a lot of time. I'd appreciate your support by subscribing to my channel. Also make sure you click the notification bell.

$85 is fairly cheap for military price. I tried to order 10 lightbulbs for the boilers, it got denied. The lightbulb burned out on a daily basis, so 10 bulbs only last a few days. But then 10 bulbs apparently cost too much for them to approve my order.

@@joelglanton6531 meh don't be too hard on them, we all get names wrong, they don't show his name in the movie so unless you're watching the credits you wouldn't know how it's pronounced. But well done on identifying the character as an audience surrogate. Not many guys who watch the film understand Upham represents them. They hate on the character because he loses it in the final battle and fails to help Mellish so they see him as a wuss without realising it's cos they hate themselves they hate him cos they'd be as useless in battle and don't like that reflected on screen. They want to pretend they're Reiben or Sergeant Horvath. Interestingly Ryan also has a mini melt down in the final battle but nobody ever notices that. And they also forget Upham ultimately got revenge for all of them when he killed the soldier who was responsible or in part responsible (we don't know whether he actually shot Wade directly) for Wade's death. So his arc is very interesting cos he's not a natural combat soldier like the others, he tries to convince himself being in combat is healthy until it happens and he realises it's terrifying and that he can't really handle it, then he's responsible for saving a soldier the rest of the squad were ready to murder in a heart beat but a soldier who goes on to kill the one man who let him live (Miller) and then subsequently is the only soldier Upham kills. The very soldier he'd fought to save. So there's a whole circle going on with his arc. But to others he's just a wimp.

The only soldier that likely died cos of Upham having a meltdown was Mellish but um the others weren't coming to Mellishs rescue either. The point was they were all fighting for their own lives and you seem to be forgetting Upham killed the soldier who'd killed Wade. He didn't "let" anyone down. This may be a hot take as I’m not sure decision making process during mid-1944 in Rangers, but to me, to take someone this inexperienced in a small squad of men, through enemy territory and expecting him to perform was the first of a few horrid decisions by Captain Miller, the second being the taking of that machine gun nest, losing a man in the process.

You have to either grow up speaking or live years in the community to be able to speak a dialect. It wouldnt expose you as a foreigner, it would let you pass as a local. maybe. Quite often while making movies actors are teached to not stop acting if something unexpected happens or they accidently do something not in script as the recorded scene may become the best possible one, very hard to repeat because of registered some natural reactions. For example during making scene, unpredictably a cat appears in frame. An actor may intuitively grab him and cuddle for a while and let him go then continue to act following the script. It may turn out that fits very well to scene and the outcome is very natural. :) This is why no actor should stop acting untill a director says 'cut' :)

Tom Hanks' natural attitude in acting fit right in with that classic "officer-type" feel. Even to the improv "you'll need that, you'll need that." or holding up the bullet silently. You could imagine him just applying his ideas of A-list stardom to the same principle of how he could treat "subordinates" in the movie. A well liked and respected Officer gets away with being a bit condescending to his lower enlisted because it seems like mentoring rather than contempt.

I served in the US Army as an Armor Crewman. This is still very commonplace. If uncle Sam thinks your job isn't rly needed, he'll find you a different one. A good example is this guy I knew who was an infantryman. He deployed to Afghanistan, and after coming back (and nearly losing life and limb) he said "I'm never doing that shit again" and reclassed to a non combat MOS. So he goes through AIT for this different job (CBRN specialist), shows up to a different unit a couple months later thinking he'll just run the CS gas chamber or whatever. Come to find out that unit was also about to deploy to Afghanistan and they didn't really have a need for CBRN specialists as much as they needed Infantrymen. So they made him an "honorary grunt" and threw him in an infantry platoon, with which he then again deployed to Afghanistan, doing the same shit he tried to escape from by reclassing. 😂

If you HAVE gone to war, then kudos to you, but you should know even BETTER that this boy should have never been anywhere near combat. Shouldve left him in the rear echelon seeing how clumsy he was just gathering his gear what made the Capt think he wouldve been an appropriate replacement to accompany a Ranger Element heading in deep into German territory going up against tough resistance during one of the most climatic campaigns of WW2. Keep in mind 20 division size Wehrmacht and SS units are moving to counter the allied advance. A squad size unit of Elite light infantry sent in behind enemy lines and Upham was the only potential replacement out of 175,000 allied troops that have landed on the Normandy beachhead up until this scene. I love Captain Miller but making this decision ended up condemning his men because Upham is clearly not capable for fighting in a Leg Infantry Unit especially in a Ranger Unit.

Simply put it's problematic Upham is a prime example why no matter what the circumstances they don't take randoms on base on their missions unless they can keep up and meet a certain standard.
