It's Katherine Wolf's first time on the podcast and Sadie can't wait to introduce you to her (if you didn't know about her already!). After a life-altering stroke at the age of 26, why does Katherine call herself "a big fan of the good, hard life?" Katherine found a life-transforming hope in Jesus when she almost died and she wants to share it with everyone because we all are going through hard things! As Katherine says, no one can tell YOU how to feel about your own story - that's something you get to decide and she almost had to die to truly find this life-altering hope. Sadie and Katherine talk about the importance of showing up for friends and family in especially hard circumstances and why not knowing what to say is okay! After this conversation, we know you're going to feel lighter and more hopeful about what's currently going on in your life. We can do this hard life because we are NOT alone - we have Jesus and we have each other! To find out more about Hope Heals Camp visit: hopehealscamp.... and Katherine's book "Treasures in the Dark" is out now!

Love how easily Katherine can quote scripture. The Word is hidden in her heart and it is so evident in her life.

When I say I'm drenched in tears right now. I am 26 years old. I had just finally gotten my life together earlier this year (I struggled with depression and sucide attempts for years before that), and not a month later, something happened to me. No drugs involved, no alcohol involved, no "mistakes" were made... I fell asleep at the wheel going 80mph in South Dakota. Flipped my car, which crushed the drivers side door latch and the seatbelt, ripped my seatbelt off, and threw me like a rainbow up in the air, and I flew up, out, and down. Broke my right wrist (all the bones that attached my hand to my arm), my right ankle, broke my pelvis in half, and broke two bones on my back, amidst other things. After three months in four different hospitals, in ICU, CCU, recovery, rehab... I ended up with an L3 incomplete spinal chord injury. I'm 26 years old. I'm in a wheelchair because I can't feel my feet. I have to wear diapers and use special devices to go to the bathroom. 26 years old, and my life is forever altered. Ugly tears watching/listening to this. Thank you both so, so, so much.

Just finished listening to this on Spotify during my night routine! I have listened to so many of your podcasts Sadie, but after listening to this one-I just had to come say WE NEED ANOTHER ONE SOMETIME! This was SO GOOD. So inspiring and such a good listen. Will be sharing with many of my friends! Wish I would have listened to this one sooner, but I heard it at the PERFECT time (isn't it just amazing how God works like that!). God bless you both and thank you so much for what both of you do for others. 💞

5 minutes in - I have now discovered why I need to skim this entirely. I've been fascinated by 'plant analogies' for the growing processes of holy & holistic living, from when I saw a book about holiness with a tree sapling on cover. "I'm the sapling!" Predictable Freedom within Predictable Universal Structure, Getting requires Achieving, that requires How-To, then action & results occur in time. In the 1980's culture of my young youth, 'process over time' was ignored (in cultural areas my family plugged into & believed).

I always think of when Jesus cried because of the grief of others even though he knew he was gonna bring Lazarus back. He allowed himself those feelings knowing the good that would come.

OH MY GOODNESS I HAVENT EVEN WATCHED THE EPISODE AND I AM SO EXCITED!!! My family has been going to Hope Heals camp since year 1 and are VERY close friends with Jay and Katherine and their whole family. Sadie PLEASE PLEASE come to hope heals some year!!!! Edit: ok so after watching this episode I stand by my thought of you needing to come to camp even more!! You truly understand the hurt and idea behind the camp and everything it contains. This year will be the hardest year of camp for me because my little sister finally lost her battle to her terminal illness 4 weeks ago and Hope Heals was her favorite place. However we know that it is somewhere we need to be in a time of suffering. Like Katherine said it’s great to have people have words but less words are best, and I have never seen that displayed better than there. I love Katherine and her story encapsulates my life since meeting her at 7 but this conversation with yall truly reminded me of that. She stands so strong on the fact that suffering is ok but we don’t have to stay in it. There is the time and need for it and there is no guilt in it either but you KNOW that there is hope with Jesus. It was really helpful to hear her say that happiness and grief can coexistence. In this fresh time of grief I don’t want to be fully sad constantly and live so sorrowfully but I still am. I try to make my life happy for me and my parents but it’s ok to still have those hard moments. Anyways Sadie if you could come to camp I think week 3 would be great, I think you would meet some great people (*cough me)😆

But how do you face the what is, when it’s your nightmare, but unlike her you have no community no matter how much you invest in others. No one to help, no one to fight for, nothing to hope for or ever look forward to? All these stories are like hers are all about people who go through traumatic events, but God cared enough about them to still give them support, spouses, kids, a future worth having even if it wasn’t what they initially thought it would look like. It must be nice to be someone God actually does provide for their needs, instead of being someone God didn’t care enough about to be bothered.
