None of the Bridgertons are considered "plain", yes, they don't have exceptional beauty, but they were pretty, and were jolly good people with a good sense of humour, Eloise and Hyacinth were forces to be recognized, Daphne and Eloise were great at sports, unlike most women of the ton, Frannie was reserved, but she too was extremely intelligent and funny. The boys were also very interesting characters.

It was mentioned in Francesca's book that men in her season just travel to see whether people's claims on her beautiful are true.

@@fortheloveofcats2462 no, they are considered A BIT plain in terms of looks, mainly because of their hair & eye colour, which, yes, is ridiculous but accurate. i didn't say they were all "plain", just not considered particularly beautiful for the exception of frannie, who is considered to be exceptionally beautiful, with multiple suitors. daphne & eloise never quite had the same treatment. daphne only had suitors AFTER simon began to fake-court her, & eloise did have a share of them for simply being a bridgerton, but she rejected them all. my memory fails me with hyacinth, though, so i won't comment on her.

That is such a ridiculous thing on behalf of Julia Quinn and shows very little knowledge of the Regency period. Back in the day, especially among that class, it was very common and normal to marry a family friend, a cousin even, let alone a sister of your best friend. In fact, it was encouraged by both parents and brothers themselves! If the friend was equal in social standing, it would have been considered an advantage to marry your sister to someone you know well and can vouch for. Also, gentlemen didn’t view sisters of their best friends as friends only (as in friendzone status), bc it was very common and in fact encouraged to marry your childhood friend or even a cousin! So even if they were friends, a man would still look at her as a woman, a potential suitor, a person of an opposite sex. The concept of friendship between men and women was different back then; it rarely existed, and the whole idea was a lot different than what we think of it now (bc equality of sexes didn’t exist; so a woman was a woman first, a lady, and a friend second). It was a different time and different thinking. Also, it is such an American idea. Especially among American teens. That you can’t date your friend’s brother or your sister’s friend bc everyone gets offended for some reason. In some countries it would be considered okay if your friend fell in love with your brother and in fact girls are often happy for that, same as brothers don’t have that much of an issue if their sister marries their friend, whom they know to be a good person. Another thing to consider about regency is that men socialized less with women and usually their interactions were supervised by family, bc, technically, women and men were not supposed be alone (although this rule was sometimes broken, if the family knew the gentleman very well). Ofc, growing up closely to each other (such as being neighbours) would mean that boys and girls could interact more and can be friends, but if these men were simply going to school or college together with Bridgerton boys, the chances of them knowing Daphne and other Bridgerton sisters closely as children are low. So it wouldn’t have been a deterring issue.

I think still true here. She does stand out. Anyone can look quite pretty when dressed up and adorned beautifully. Just look at models. How many take stunning pictures but look less than plain once they are not all dolled up for photoshoot or catwalk.

@@Deebnoff she is indeed gorgeous beautiful but come on they made kate most beautiful , while in the books she was barely average. I was planning to never watch bridgerton after season 2 was released but when hannah dod as Francesca was announced I was excited because she was so beautiful.

@@alyssabriaI have re watched S2 twice and S1 5 times. The queen only speak to Eloise because her investigation on who is Lady Whistledown. Edwina is outshine in season 2 and I don’t think Lady Danbury can tell the queen who should be the diamond of the season. She can only present who is the most sparkle each season, just like what she present the queen with Francesca. Eloise is not even on the short list of being a diamond.
