"It's your voice. Cherish it, respect it, nurture it, challenge it, strech it, scream it until it's fucking gone. Beacuse everyone's blessed with at least that. And who knows how long it will last." Good advice on someone who is a little shy to sing, me.

Remember to never try to hold your voice back, or attempt singing quietly due to shyness. From personal experience, going back to 1981, you need to sing full voice, and of course songs have quieter passages. Still when you try to hold back full voice, not leaning into it...i promise this universal mistake all of us who sing have made will ruin your night. Always trust your voice and training...if you sing full trained voice, it is far less likely you'll go flat, or out of key, breath or both. i can guarantee failure if you try to shortcut or half-ass it. i've suffered from that mistake in front of a small, party sized audience once. From then on, i figured, if i fuck up trying to hold back, how could going for it make it worse? Never happened again...galvanizing event! Do you devote much time to practicing your instrument? Also, are you caring for it as one should with such a treasure? There is an herbal tea called "Voice" that i use regularly i think it is the Yogi Tea company, but i'll post full info when sure. Joni Mitchell does a mixture of hot water, a little lemon juice, honey, and a tablespoon of Apple cider vinegar as a gargle just prior to practice or performance...i also play guitar, and i baby every single one of my beautiful instruments....i do the same for my vocal instrument...try taking day long breaks from speaking, if it is possible...rest is essential for your voice. Drink 80+ ounces of water daily. Aside from that, work with a vocal coach, and you will be sorted. Ready for your first hit! Stay Healthy and take care, -trout

Guilt and fear are important indicators for limitations in life. From Guilt well learn what is wrong and in turn learn to avoid it. Fear tells us not to push it too much towards discomfort or death. Understanding secondary negative emotions and over coming them through improved behaviour and replacing them with primary emotions like Joy and Happiness.

Being as I've been to two of them (Of the MANY concerts over the years) and of the five physical altercations I've been in as an adult, four of them were at those two concerts.

He is an incredible drummer, songwriter and overall musician. He is also one of the few people that you don't get mad at his success, or jealous of it, because he is also another rare thing, a decent human being. You cheer him on, are happy for him, and you do this because you know that he would do the same for you.

I go through times where I think my art is AWFUL...self doubt, depression..and I just stop...I cant draw, paint....sometimes I throw everything away.....I look at other artist work and think how awesome it is and I cant make art like THAT....but "MAKE IT YOUR OWN" my work was published because I WASNT anyone else...I need to keep this in mind and stop giving up

superblonde the longer u live, the more u realize there is no such thing as luck. Don't waste time doubting the method and making excuses. I've found the harder I work, the luckier I get. There's always better musicians and usually there's a reason or reasons why they aren't successful and it typically doesn't have anything to do with talent or ability. It's usually attitude and likeability that holds people back.

@@edimichaelchannel1162 True. But it is still subjective. Based on what 'they' feel. Do you think that someone like Prince or Jimi Hendrix or Eric Clapton or Bob Dylan would've won a contest? Maybe or maybe not. Still I wouldn't put that decision in the hands of these people who have lesser musicianship and songwriting talent.

Without sharing too much detail, here's a short story. I had just come out of heart breaking relationship that devastated me on all levels. I was riding in a friends car and the song "The Best Of You" came on the radio and it hit me on a very positive way. I later bought the CD and played that song several times every day for months. It helped get my life back on track. Love you Dave, thanks do much.

One thing I had forgotten (and maybe that's why even after stopping being an Internet Video creator, I still play with the software.) You do it for yourself. It's your passion, your voice, your creativity. Everyone has something. Rather it be Carpenter, Car Repair, Home Decorator, Cook, whatever. Plus as it was just stated in the James Hetfield 10 rules I am watching currently (thanks to Roku) if I don't do some video work I get grouchy. LOL. After my stroke, and continuing deteriation of the brain, I am NOT Hardcoredlw any longer. However I can still have fun doing simple magazine MTV style DVD video edits for backwoods internet ignorant friends.

"Just do it" is my favorite. I've played guitar for over a year now. I still suck but I suck in a good way. I'm constantly expanding my horizons with my playing technique and have bought a music mixing console that records. I've set up a band room with drums an Xbox and trippy posters and I basically live in that room. I've played my first guitar every day since I bought it and have loved more than any guitar I've ever played. It's a strat hss. I've learned to jam with a drummer and I'm constantly thinking about ways to play music for large audiences. Nothing can stop me from doing so. I just have to play in a band. There's no way I can't do it. I'll have to "just do it"

"The musician comes first" is about the value we must give to ourselves, and the love we must have for ourselves... not in a selfish way, but to remember that before of everything, the human being is the most valuable thing in the process... that phrase helped me a lot during a depression time, and I am grateful for those words.

The Foo Fighters aren't necessarily my favorite band ever....they're kind of a modern rock version of "classic rock." It's all a bit too polished and friendly for my tastes...although they have many killer songs, the latest single(Run) being a prime example, and one of their best songs in years. But....despite my lukewarm interest in that band, I've always massively respected Dave as a person and musician. He's absolutely the real deal, and seems to be a genuinely great human being. There's plenty of super creative idiosyncratic musicians from his generation to draw inspiration from.....so I'm kinda glad Dave's always sidestepped that scene and those vices and instead done his own thing. It's not precisely my cup of tea, but I sure as hell respect it...and find him to be a very inspiring person. Hope he's around for a long time....this world needs his voice!

Kyle bardone what if you've tried lots of stuff...sport, music, art, writing, acting, for example...and you're no good at any of them? point 1 renders all of the other points irrelevant. you can't just choose to be great at something. if you could then everyone would write songs like kurt cobain. but people don't and can't write songs like kurt cobain because he's a fucking genius songwriter. i'm sorry to be nitpicking over dave grohl, because he's a great guy and i love nirvana, but not everyone can get to be good at stuff.
@duhhead10
@duhhead10 7 жыл бұрын
I have such a problem with this, to be honest. I can't get good at anything I do, no matter how hard I try. It seems like there's this giant wall that prevents me from going anywhere. I completely understand the hopeless feeling. And yes, it's true that not everyone will be able to write music like Cobain, play like Michael Jordan, or even become President of the United States...only a select few will be able to achieve that level of success. Some people seem to possess a "natural talent" that most of us don't have. Yet that doesn't have to stop you from trying your best at everything. When you say you've tried lots of stuff...at what point did you give up? Becoming better at something is way more of a mental game than a physical one. It's really easy for you to become mentally pessimistic, which affects your physical performance, which in turn causes you to think that you aren't good enough. For me, it reaches the point where I think "natural talent" is the only way I'll be able to get better. "Oh, he's better than me at trumpet, he must have god-given chops". "Oh, he's better than me at baseball, he must a natural combination of hand-eye coordination and power". It is at that point that I, personally, give up. But if there's anything I've learned it's this: it's all in your mind. People can criticize you all they want, but you've got to understand that you are the only one who can truly determine your confidence and drive to push forward. It's really fucking difficult and quite cliche, but simply put, you've just gotta believe in yourself. People will criticize you and try to put you down; screw them, just keep pushing forward. If you like what you do, keep doing it. Otherwise, you'll just be miserable. I'm not the best at playing (I mostly play guitar) and I'm most certainly not an excellent songwriter. But by god I love it, and I'll continue doing it because it pleases me. Songwriting, I feel, gives me purpose and a way to express myself. Don't compare yourself to other people and lament over how you're inferior to them, because at the end of the day, that's only convincing yourself that you suck and that you should give up. How good they are has no bearing on how good you will be. I'm absolutely sure you're better than you think you are. Just keep pushing forward.

That's not how it works... You don't jut try something and expect to be good at it... few people are naturally beter at others, and if they are, in ten years of practice it won't make any difference. The only reason you aren't good at it is because you haven't put enough effort into it

17 months ago (about one month after the publish date of this video) my musical partner died suddenly. It was devastating. I have not been able to write, play, or even sing in front of people because it is just too painful. I have mental illness and music has always been how I work stuff out. When you are dealing with heavy stuff and can't go to what helps you work it out because that's where the pain is, it's awful. My partner and I shared a love of the Foo Fighters and Dave is not just my Rock n Roll hero, he is someone I look up to as an example of how to be an awesome F*in human being. Thank you for this video. It reminds me why I admire him so much and listening him talk about how devastated he was after Kurt died gives me hope that I too will bounce back to do what I love.

Even though I haven't been successful in society's sense of the word, I have been playing bass for the past 30+ years. I sat with Dave Ellefson when I was 15 and he told me no matter how hard or how bad it gets, don't ever stop doing what you are doing. Don't ever stop playing. Dave is spot on when he says the reward is playing and it most surely is. That is why I am still doing it. That is why I stay in shape so I can continue to do it. Because of this relentless drive I have actually played some large venues in front of thousands of people. Even though those moments are fleeting, at least I know for a fact that I can stand and deliver the goods. That in itself is my definition of success. When I have stepped off stage and hear that people are pumped by what we did, that is the reward. Gonna keep rockin. Peace.

Love Dave Grohl. Nirvana was the band for Gen X and I am do grateful I was young when they came on the scene. When Kurt died it was a shock to the nation. Then a few years later I hear this new band I really liked, and I found out it was fronted by Dave Grohl and it was like a second chance for Nirvana fans to feel that passion and excitement all over again. Foo Fighters!!!

I met Dave Grohl a few times but one night after the Chris Cornell concert back in 2013 he stopped and talked to a group of us for at least 15 - 20 mins. answering all our questions, signing autographs and just generally being a super NICE and REAL Human Being. I never will forget how nice he was ! I love this vid you put together and thanks for sharing with us all ! Peace !

The thing I like about Dave Grohl is that he's a genuinely nice guy. Not a pushover, just a genuine human being. He doesn't appear conceited, or arrogant, or egotistical. He's just Dave!

I have so much respect for Dave. He's amazing and gives me so much hope that I can be the musician I've always wanted to be. The 2 most impressive things from this video were 1. When he kicks the guy out from his show and 2. When he was going back on stage with his broken leg. Huge respect to this great great person

What I love about the Foo and Dave is that they show that the Rock spirit is not about bad ass posing and leather jackets, but about passion and in that passion you can be a nice person too.
