CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR MARRIAGE COLLEEN!!! As a josei-head and especially a BL fan, I'm super excited for 2024! We've got the big stuff like the Cherry Magic anime that's airing right now (SO good btw, having that and A Sign of Affection in the same season is insane). We're also getting Tadaima, Okaeri in the spring which was a big surprise! AND we're getting TWO more Given movies AND we're getting a Given sequel manga! (Given fans literally never lose 💪😤🔥🔥🔥🔥). On the manga side, we're getting a reprint of GRAVITATION which is SO HYPE that's literally my whole childhood. Along with that I'm super excited for English versions of long running series' like Given, Cherry Magic, and especially Seaside Stranger! Alongside those big hitters, there's other queer josei I'm excited about like the new Nagata Kabi book and the last volume of I Think Our Son is Gay, which is SO cute! All in all, it's gonna be a big year for BL. I'm also super excited for those Moto Hagio series coming out this year, I love reading old shojo and enjoying the classic art! I'm personally really excited for Veil by Kotteri, it's a super fun and interesting story about a blind woman and a police officer, its a bunch of short snippets of them living their life together, but I just find it so heart warming and I can't wait for it to be released in physicals

I’m also really excited for “They Were 11!” and I’ve also been looking forward to it for years! Interestingly, the English release will include the original series and the sequel that has never been licensed in English before. I hope you enjoy “The Poe Clan” once the box set releases, it’s a good read. I also hope we get more classic shojo licenses and more sci-fi shojo in general. I feel that sci-fi is a genre that isn’t associated with the demographic, despite being so important to modern manga and diving into some interesting discussions about the self and identity. I've already pre-ordered all the shojo that was mentioned in this video, so I guess we have similar taste! I didn't really know that much about the seinen titles talked about though, so thank you for bringing them to my attention! Fool Night in particular looks really cool. For other manga I'm excited for this year, I have to mention Udon's two releases, Veil and No Roses Without Thorns: My Life as a Shojo Manga Artist’s Assistant! The first is a josei with the most beautiful art, and the latter is an autobiographical title about working on shojo manga in the 70s! I haven't heard a lot of folks talking about them, and they deserve some more attention.

The idea of a thing like Flow (or is that Flos comics? I am really curious about the website) comics being a manga magazine that makes Isekai's aimed at women and girls is wonderful, maybe we can see more isekai like what we got with The Twelve Kingdoms or other types like that instead of the same old , same old. I mean its getting better in the isekai genre, just a little bit but knowing that some one knew that there was a market for these is amazing. it is like the first time I have heard of this at all. thank you.

I think all of Kodansha's (later in the year) physical licenses geared towards women were only josei manga, but they didn't do the announcements until November. I'm most excited for Tales of the Tendou Family to get licensed/officially translated. One of my favourite ongoing shoujo manga. I would say other than drama, historical and psychological are the two other big genres I would put this story in. This manga has the most yandere and psycho characters lol. Our martial artist MC girl, Ran is the only normal character in this story.

I love Moto Hagio! My favorite is The Poe Clan. I'm so excited for They Were 11🥰

So excited for They Were 11! Denpa's delayed the release for so long, we'll see lol. I have the original single issue comics from Viz Flower Comics back in the 90's, but haven't gotten Four Shojo Stories yet. Hagio Moto is one of my favorite creators of all time, she has such an incredible body of work.

I agree that theres not a lot of Shoujo or Josei coming (hopefully that changes) but theres still a lot of really great stuff coming. Im really excited for Tales of the Tendo Family, it sounds like a great historical drama and we dont get nearly enough stuff from LaLa nowadays. (heres hoping someone gets Ryuu no Kagehime since its short) Snowball Earth and Fools Night also sound interesting so ill keep an eye on them. Im also really excited for I Want You To Make Me Beautiful (ive been wanting to check out something from Steamship and it seems like a fun story with great art), This Monster Wants To Eat Me (we dont get nearly enough psychological Yuri in english and ive heard fantastic things about it) and Aria of the Beech Forest. (it looks cute, its short and i like that its set in Ireland as i feel Celtic myths/settings are very underused in fantasy manga) Theres other stuff i may be forgetting and we still have plenty of time for other stuff to come out (Viz has another set of announcments soon, Seven Seas is overdue for one and im waiting for when Kodansha gets Fall In Love False Angels) so heres hoping we get more amazing series announced soon!

Great video the only thing I am looking forward to releasing this year though it will be in Japanese only since the publication will start in early summer 2024 Mo Dao Zu Shi (Ma Dou So Shi) aka Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation the black and white manga adaptation. Outside of that I mostly try to keep up with JJK and a few BL series in Japanese. I primarily read Danmei novels (which is what the manga series that is coming out is based off of).

Tendou Ke Monogatari is my favorite shoujo manga right now, I really want it to get an anime some day.

This video made me realise i'd seen a few of these titles before. I own the light novel for the timeloop series- i definitely suggest anyone with anxiety to steer clear of it at least until its complete as i had to put it down hoping the next novel would come out to make stuff less tense and nope doesnt make it better lol. The tension from the mystery is just so heavy it was making me panicky, and its way further than the manga orz. Very much a you gotta be in the rigut frame of mood to read it comic. Excited to hear about so many cool series being released! i would caution folks to check the author of gravitation's release history if you um...really dont want to touch someone who has made some incredibly problematic doujinshi about her characters and favourite couples. I dont know how well known they are just that when i was a teenager they were considered infamous, very r18 and i really cant overstate that problematic is an absolute understatement for what they are and i dont suggest anyone reads them- just want folks to be able to make informed decisions. Her manga updates page shows them and...the assorted tags. I personally try to steer clear of her as an author.

Oh my 'Gravitation' . . . I'll be taking a hard pass on that one. I knew people who were obsessed with it around 2002 or so. I finally found some used copies of the Tokyo Pop version from the mid-2000s in 2015 and - dear god - I had to give up. It was just too much for me with lots of questionable content that had not aged well at all. I'm all for older series getting new releases, but I'm not sure if 'Gravitation' is on the same level as anything by Moto Haigo. As nice as it is to see Darkhorse putting Trigun back out there in print, the price point is far too steep even for me - and I've been throwing down cash for the hardcover 'Rose of Versailles'.

Isn't a g in japanese orthography always hard? Or is Moto Hagio just creative like that? Anyway, read They Were 11! last year and it's really great that in the age of hype trains and instasubs such a vintage series gets a print release. It is an endearing manga and i really think i have to read it again as it was so all over the place with so many characters and plotlines. Also it made me think instantly of Knights of Sidonia, the gimmick where children are genderless until puberty is used in both, and in a pretty similar way, so now im curious what history that has.
