in the philippines, anime mainstreamed in the 90's where morning before noon time shows, late afternoon after afternoon telanovelas, where we dont have problems where to watch anime (tagalog dub) because those are anime timetables in big television channels 2 5 7 13, thanks to these channels. not just anime, even ultraman, mask rider, sentai. eva, slam dunk, yuyuhakusho(ghost fighter), sailormoon, rurouni kenshin(samurai x) all dubbed in tagalog, and yeah having the last two episodes of voltes v in the cinemas and having to sit on the floor in the cinema just to watch yuyuhakusho movie was an experience. yeah the great days.

This is one thing that I hear about Japan a lot. You gotta make a lot of effort to make friends and that friends are really important to making it work in Japan. That's one reason I know that living in Japan isn't for me. It's hard work, rewarding work but hard work. I am just not a socialite. One regular friend irl is more than enough for me. Any more than that and I am burnt out. I am not one to be texting and meeting with mates every time and all that. That doesn't fit well with my shut lifestyle. XD
@thepurplepanda4
@thepurplepanda4 3 жыл бұрын
It's not really rewarding either, you can never make enough as a foreigner. As a native, you better be a businessman or a woman cause otherwise you are a salaryman. Good luck having no time.

Hard work? Yes. Rewarding? Meh. Live in the past? Hell yeah! Should you live here? Nobody knows, just give it 2 years and see it yourself. I did and yeah it wasnt for me but I figure many will find Japan an Ok place to settle down.

In Australia there's a channel called Channel 31 (it's a public channel in Melbourne) which plays random anime episodes and I shit you not I would stay up until 3 am just to watch a single episode of anime and sometimes it wouldn't even show even though it was supposed to. Thank god for the internet so now I can watch all the anime I want without having to watch a bunch of boring as shit tv shows.

@Milark
@Milark 3 жыл бұрын
I’ve never really consciously made an effort to make friends. Of course if you have no social contact you don’t end up making friends. But I think the difference is that in Japan, you have to think to yourself “I am going to make friends and keep the relationship going”. Whilst in my experience where I live it just kind of happens.

You have to learn Japanese Keep in mind that when I say this the JLPT N1 is barely a B2 level if even that You have to learn Japanese to make Japanese friends. Not very many people are actually learning. They can’t have a deep conversation with any Japanese person so how the hell do they expect to befriend them ?
@jimmythechimp2
@jimmythechimp2 3 жыл бұрын
I live in the countryside and most of my Japanese conversation comes from just going to my local bar. N3 is a struggle for me but because I just do loads of convo lessons online for practice I'm able to talk albeit with difficulty about politics etc. and not just hobbies and the weather. I couldn't imagine living out here with no speaking ability. N1 probably means that person will probably be able to understand way more than I do but I can hold down a fluent conversation.
@AkaiNiwatori1
@AkaiNiwatori1 3 жыл бұрын
@@jimmythechimp2 I was going to the local bar when I was N5 level and talking to people all over the country. I was able to make friends pretty easily. I’m not sure what your situation is. If you’re there alone you’re probably doing fine. I’m talking more about people who have access to a ton of other English speakers and have very few Japanese friends (like people in this video) People with N1 can often understand a decent amount but cannot respond properly. There’s people I know who mostly have Japanese friends but they got way past that level and put a huge halt to the English. They use Japanese way more than English even in their normal day to day life (at work and outside of work)
