Very informative. You covered considerations that will save people a lot of time and money. Something I saw on Reddit recently was the idea of adding a fallback mode/kill switch in case of complex errors. Though that may indicate the admin is making things too complex, it might not hurt to add anyway.

Excellent content & context, its good to have a strategy based on a solid rationale - finding out the hard experiential way requires lots of time & money flushed down the drain and lots of frustrations to learn this. I could have done without 'Robot Guy' though - your other transitional elements were good! A point you didn't make that I think is also true is that making every switch or bulb in a house "smart" isn't really logical - small rooms like bathrooms with single doors and single lights work just fine & efficiently with traditional switches/dimmers or 'semi-smart' timers/occupancy sensors. Automations also need lots of thought to make sure they work for everyone all the time or are at least benign for others. I've seen so many demonstrated that make me think: "your wife/kids and especially guests will be so confused when that happens", OR what if that Isn't what you always want to happen...

Very honest knowledge sharing, A large number of People learn this, the very hard way, cause Smart-Home bling factor would entice you to hop step and jump 😅😅 HA user here with DIY Tasmota's And few cloud 2 local setup. Running only 40 smart devices as of now 👍🏻👍🏻
