Please exuse my direct frankness. I say this is NOT correct self protection Karate technique (and know that this is a common theory mistake in western "imitation" of Karate) The correct technique is to create expanding, destructive, natural kyushu energy WITHOUT constrictive/holding EFFORT. Much better results are created by using RELAXATION in your chest and breathing, as your split second kime is delivered.. Think of delivering your energy via a heavy metal ball that's efficiently wipped with a wire, thru the opponent (so the energy doesn't end up mostly going back down to the ground). Please give this approach a try and your kime will continuously be more effective, and you won't get so tired when dealing with attacks by multiple apponents intent on biting your face off, so to speak. ~ inmho
