And if you must go, take a local tour guide who understands the language, a lot of negotiations were being done amongst themselves right in your presence before they asked you to pay $100 and you couldn't understand them. Also for your own safety and that of jossy, kindly confirm the security situation of a particular location before venturing there, many Nigerians wouldn't go to that place you went myself inclusive. I traveled to this place in July. I'm biracial (Nigerian/Canadian). I was accompanied by my cousin, a Lagosian. This is a community full of loving folks, but they're living in survival mode. We met with a local teacher who guided us throughout the village. Had we gone without a local Makoko resident, I confidently believe things could have turned out bad for us. We had to pay 1000N to a few agitated men to leave us alone. This is a very intimate community. The amount of attention I garnered was wild. You are walking through hundreds of people's homes with every step. A surreal experience.
