My initial reaction was to keep scrolling because of the very low quality in the presenters video. I'm glad I didn't! So far this is my favorite introduction to all these methodologies and theories. Very little irrelevant chatter 👏🏻. As someone in ISD this is all applicable advice. Strongly recommend redoing this one with better video quality. You'll triple your views and shares.

Addie is more like a framework as opposed to being a model. Gagne, Kirkpatrick are theories that are applied throughout the design, develop and evaluation phase. But thank you for this. It's a really good video and does cover the basic mindset and ID must have.

I can see where you're coming from. What word would you use to encompass models, theories, and frameworks? I just picked models because it model does mean a presentation of an operation or process. A framework is between a model and a method. So, really...not that misleading. Maybe there's just a better word to encompass "7 ID models, frameworks, theories, and stuff you should know" :)

I like to think of Formative and Summative assessments like this: a formative assessment is something where I check to see where a student is at so I can make an adjustment to how I will continue to teach that specific material. The summative assessment is always at the end just to see what they know. At the end of the summative assessment we are moving on to something new no matter how well anyone did on the summative assessment. You should have many formative assessments through the course of any given unit plan but just one summative assessment at the end before you begin a new topic.

Hi Dr. Sargent, thanks for this digestible overview! In regards to SAM, you stated that a downside of SAM is that it doesn't consider risk. What do you mean by that?
@idolcourses
@idolcourses 2 жыл бұрын
The idea that mistakes are “inevitable” may result in overlooking potential issues in a project. It doesn’t acknowledge and account for risk in relation to the effectiveness of a project in comparison to other instructional design models.
@laurasirtonski8663
@laurasirtonski8663 2 жыл бұрын
@@idolcourses Thank you so much for this reply. So, the SAM approach just assumes that issues will come up in the process and will be worked out through various iterations, rather than anticipating them in advance, potentially losing money and time?

Hi. How can I tell which design model is used for a particular elearning course? Also, how to decide which model will work for me?
@idolcourses
@idolcourses 3 жыл бұрын
You can use ADDIE, SAM, or Action Mapping to build your eLearning course. Personally I like to use SAM so I can have a real prototype for clients , stakeholders, and students to respond to and give feedback. Gagne is good for designing your content. And Blooms Taxonomy is how you can pull out the measurable verbs that will align your learning objectives with your content. :) Hope this helps!

Thanks for the video. You've explained the concepts covered here really well and it helps to know which are the main/popular concepts we need to be familiar with. I've read in some places that there is a difference between instructional design model (the process followed to create the course - ADDIE, SAM, Cathy Moore's Action Mapping, etc.) vs. the instructional strategy (e.g. framework or approaches used to present the learning content e.g. case studies, storytelling, etc.). Is this accurate? And if it is, would Gagne's 9 events come under an "instructional strategy"? And same with Bloom's?
@idolcourses
@idolcourses 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Anamta! Thank you for your thoughtful question/comment. There is a difference between models and strategies, but they are in the same family. A strategy is a deliberate vision to get toward those desired learning outcomes. A model is the tool one can use to execute those strategies. That's why they are grouped together in this training because there are at least these 7 models and strategies you'll want to know for your practice and job interviews.

Hi need an advice...which is the best model to teach interview skills for students and general safety for housekeeping staff
@idolcourses
@idolcourses 2 жыл бұрын
The best model is the First Principles of Instruction. In summary, keep the tasks that your learners need to complete at the center of your instruction. Demonstrate HOW to interview and call out each of the principles in your demonstration. Then give them application opportunities to practice those principles on their own with feedback from the instructor/course.
