Disclaimer: I was kindly informed that the saw blade seems to be mounted the wrong way around. Very good eye and I missed this detail during video editing. However, the saw blade is mounted the right way around. At first I also thought that the saw was turning the wrong way around, i.e. that I had wired the motor incorrectly. When I frantically ran back to my workshop to check it, the saw turned the right way around. And then I realized what had happened. And here is the explanation: The shutter speed of the camera and the rotation speed of the saw blade are overlapping in such a way that the camera always takes a picture when the saw has almost made another rotation. If you line up these pictures in a video like usual, it looks as if the saw is rotating in the wrong direction. You know this effect for example from car commercials where the wheels seem to turn backwards when driving forward or in videos of old propeller planes where the rotor seems to turn slowly in the wrong direction. There are countless explanatory videos on youtube, if you want to learn more about this. I wish you all a good start into the new year and hope you will tune in again for the next video.

Really nice restoration! Just one point - the Festo tool company (Festool) usually has the green color, like the original lettering of the hand saw. The blue is the Festo color for the pneumatics company.

I am running out of adjectives to describe your work...how does "stellar" sound? Every time I see one of these tool videos it reminds me of some of my dad's old tools I just threw out when he passed. He had an old metal Craftsman skill saw he used for years to cut brick - he was a mason. It was still working some 30+ years later and deserved something like this. Oh well can't undo what was done. But it did make this one pretty special for me. Thanks for that.

Tools make me ridiculously happy. I used to buy old tools at yard sales & thrift stores. Those were some of the best purchases I have ever made. Old tools were made to a higher standard of quality. Yeah, I like the newest gadgets & gizmos but old tools are what really makes me happy. I almost feel a weird type of connection or continuity between me & the tool's previous owners. Woo-Hoo! 😁

The grounding or PE wire was missing because it’s a class 2 device and not class 1. You can see it on the label. The two squares and „schutzisoliert“ mean it’s a class 2 device. However: 1st, the cable that’s in use is illegal for class 2 devices. It must not contain a ground / PE cable nor plug. 2nd: nowadays it would be a class 1 device because it has a metal housing. Back in the 60s/70s it was enough to just paint the housing with non conductive paint for class 2. Today that’s no longer allowed because paint can scratch or screws in metal are still conductive. So today you would have to convert it to a class 1 device with working ground / PE wire to pass electric test.
@NTRprojects
@NTRprojects Жыл бұрын
That's very very helpful, thank you very much. I assume the cable was replaced at one point in time. In conclusion I did everything right from today's perspective when I connected the ground to the main body, right?
