The places you catch steelhead are part of what makes it so special. I've got a small creek that for whatever reason seems to have nothing but carp and pike despite being wide as a one lane road in certain spots. Years ago I got a 40 inch pike out of it and other giants, but the last few years whenever I've gone there's nothing. Thinking idiots ruined it

Seeing and catching much different than catching with a proven pattern and reading conditions and having a deep reservoir of experiences to draw from, Bait-casting high profile reels are best and a 8 foot or a bit more that absorbs the Chrome Steely as he goes nuts , Steelhead : Name from knocking out the loose eggs from the roe , Color of the row important too , Your using ? Wee warts or Hot shots are good or even get the bass hardware out, That’s maybe Oregon or Washington ? Hungry Squatches await your catch ! I love going out scouting for the lil feeder streams for quality fish , If it rained or is the chromes with eels on them fresh up from the ocean are on fire when you hook them, 12 or 10 pound test ? Even lighter if the water allows the big runs and tail walking they do fresh outa the sea ! What’s in there normally ? Just curious . Kevin

@@brodygoodall4216 it’s a tributary of a big river that gets a steelhead release of its own. They plant fish on the main river and on this small creek. They fish don’t actually spawn in the creek. They go into the trap and are spawned by fish and wildlife.

Southern Oregon bear creek that runs through Medford used to have steelhead running up creek when I was a kid now sense the trash homeless and droughts no more steelhead or salmon :( it was a main tributary to the rogue river now it’s gone:(

You're messing with fish at the very end of their spawning run. Those fish are at the end of their energy reserves and catching one may very well kill it and prevent it from spawning. Stick to large runs on the main river. Once fish move up into those small creeks, leave them alone.

@@edbuscus360 steel head trout spawn in the sam water as they were hatched in, they stay in those waters for 2 years, then make their way out to the salt water. Over here on the pacific side, they come out of the Columbis river, turn north in salt water, travel up under th polar ice cap, where the feed on shrimp, for 3 to 4 years, they migrate back to to the river that they were hatched and were " "smolted" in. Yhey will stay in that water, yntil the temperature rises, the spring run off trigers them & they migrate up the tributary where they were hatched. NOW IF YOU FISH THOSE STREAMS & catch them off of their nests, you have just killed 2000 steal head ! (Minimum)

Yeah in upstate New York, salmon run up this tiny, little brook to spawn. It amazed me as a little kid (still does) and when I went back home to Massachusetts, I was always convinced I could go to the little brooks near my house and see salmon in them!

Let that line float freely, if your bobber causes tension on your line or your line gets hung up on a branch and stops the natural flow in anyway. They probably will not bite, especially the bigger ones from experience. Let that line flow as freely as it can. I prefer no weights and no bobber when I'm using live bait and using any rig besides a fly rod.

When these fish are in these small streams they should never be stressed out. They are either spawning or trying to recover from spawning. Please, learn to observe and enjoy and just appreciate how fine these fish are. Save your gear for rivers. Steelhead are mostly in trouble everywhere. Treat them with care.
