I work blue collar but I’m really handsome with boyish good looks. Sensitive blue collar guys probably make assumptions when I wear my carhartt. I feel its just the younger guys who care this much since they treat blue collar as an identity. The older guys I’ve met buy their sons or daughters (who they hope don’t work blue collar instead go to college) these kinds of jackets because its good quality.

I doubt most teens get their stuff from WIP since it’s more expensive and worse quality. Ik carhartt has dipped in quality in general, but specifically WIP isn’t very good. "Established in 1994 by Edwin Faeh, Carhartt Work In Progress (WIP) develops its own collections based on original Carhartt workwear. The brand combines authentic adaptations of these robust American archetypes, while engaging with the subcultures that have embraced it. This, in turn, has seen Carhartt WIP place itself in a new context and bring forth its own classics. Carhartt WIP opened its first store in London in 1997 and today operates over 80 brick and mortar locations worldwide. It also has its own skate team and music department, while supporting an array of artists and releasing various publications. Since 2010, Carhartt WIP has worked with a number of like-minded collaborators, including A.P.C., Converse, Fragment Design, Junya Watanabe, Nike, Underground Resistance, and Motown"

Carhartt USED to be made out of good material AND was AFFORDABLE then when they knew they had tradesmen by the balls they started mass producing cheaper less quality products out of china at a higher price, made it fashionable and overall ruined the company’s reputation. Any vintage jackets from the 80’s and 90’s are still holding up but these newer products won’t last near as long.

Along with some other "technical" outdoor clothing they are in my regular rotation because they are built for wear and tear, meaning I won't have to replace them for some time. Also, as a subway rider on the trains late who has been attacked things like work overalls and a thick canvas chore jacket are good in a fight. So... Yeah... This guy is SO silly. My man, my grandpa who was an electrician and manual laborer until his late 60s buys Carthartt for his grandchildren. Even the one who’s like 12. He’s a nice guy, like those people usually are. They’re cool. Don’t start a trend of acting lame. The only issue I have is the price of everything. Carthartt has discounts for service workers, and that’s what makes them nice. Even someone who’s SIMPLY A NURSE, wear Carthartt. You don’t need to be part of Manual labor to wear them. They literally sell scrubs for nurses, and flexible rain coats for athletes. Also you know people can use them for yard work too? Right?

Only reason i have a problem with people buying Carhartt is cause it makes it way more expensive for people who actually rely on the clothes

Yeah but also CARHARTT also has their WIP line which focuses on actual streetwear designs and wear which shares the same aesthetic as the mainline brand.

So people who aren’t going to constantly destroy their clothes don’t deserve to wear something that has quality and will last? Wow people are so insecure.😂

As someone whos been blue collar since he was 17, wear whatever you want. I buy carrhart and dickies because they keep me dry and comfortable working, but if you buy it because you like the look then all the power to ya. Its clothing. No one can dictate who can and can't wear clothes, especially when its a kid who has clearly never worked a manual labor job telling you not to buy working clothes

Im glad not all work wear companies are going the way of carhartt, I'm still pissed that they got rid of the original phenomenal double front logger dungarees. But to add insult to injury they brought them back but now its just horrible quality. I bought a new pair with low expectations but the front part, the double layered part ripped through on the first day of work. Im gonna stick with Key and Leivs form now on thanks. Tldr, very sadly carhartt is going the way of fast fashion.

I wear them in NYC. I work third shift and am on the subways late. Been attacked multiple times. When I had other clothes on I came out looking like a mess. When I had my Carhartt overalls on and my Schott's canvas jacket on I didn't have a scrape on me even after rolling around on the ground and dodging knife slashes. This was with clothes I had purchased within the last five years so.... I don't know what to tell you, stuff is still quality to me. I still have all the canvas stuff I wore when attacked. The other clothes? Shredded.

Have you ever thought that maybe people who don’t do manual labor but wear carhart clothes still want a quality product? If a carhart item will last a constriction worker a year, it’ll last someone who doesn’t do manual labor a decade, maybe two or three depending on how often they wear it.

Carhartt is expensive specifically for the brand. Dickies, Duluth trading company, and ariat all make great work pants for cheaper. Now, carhartt is really high quality, so that’s why you buy it used online for a cheaper price
