Exactly, that is how I feel when I've realized that I have wasted 1 full hour on youtube shorts without realizing it. I deleted Tik Tok just to not have the same thing where I really only skim through the videos yet that's what I have been doing still. When I realize it, i decide to read/go out/study a topic/journal/listen to a podcast and so much more. It's in your possession and that's why it's necessary to know how to take action.

Hai, this ain’t my main acc but eh idc So I’m fairly young (under 13) and my mom is planning to start a gym membership for me (I didn’t ask for it) and well I decided “well if ima make my physical health better might as well make my mental health as it was when I was younger” so I watched this and I somehow managed to not scroll or click off and the only times I got distracted was when I was checking out ur house and I got a health notification so I checked it so id say I’m doing well, now ofc I still didnt make any progress cuz it’s been 10 mins… but another way I think could help is less shortening of words (slang) and writing and going for walks could also help, ima go set up the focus and turn off notifications now, this is one of the only ones that ACTUALLY help and aren’t just torture and “self discipline” Thank you.

it's funny because this video randomly popped up on my feed and before clicking on it, i told myself "you have the opportunity to decide... you can watch a burger mukbang and waste 17 minutes of your life, or maybe get something out of it". before it was even mentioned, i dared myself to watch the whole video on 1x speed and no distractions. it made me so sad hearing you talk about how you can start missing out on major events of your life by not being fully present bc just this year i realized how little i remembered from big life events that happened this year (graduating, finishing my internship, traveling, etc.), so one of the reasons why i want to work on my attention span is to be fully present during my upcoming trips this year! tysm for this video

wow... you just made me realise that i have the exact same problem. i've always attributed me not remembering things as "memory getting worse" and i often miss the times when I was younger because my memory was so much better. but maybe the issue wasn't my memory getting worse, it was my attention span declining. if i had been fully present when studying or doing things, life may not have felt like it just flew by--- seriously wow, who knew that a tip to improving your 'memory' is to improve your attention span... i have to try it out now

Hearing that making long comments was actually a sign that I’m processing information better was extremely encouraging for me. I’ve been doing this more frequently and I hope it continues to benefit me. It’s comforting to hear that the little changes in my life are making a difference, like podcasts, practicing my instruments, and dance practice. I’ve been feeling really good about myself lately and been overthinking less. Sorry if this comment sounds roundabout, I’m a wee bit tired, but I just wanted to say thank you for giving great advice and I can confirm from experience that it works ❤ have a wonderful day everyone!

After I deleted all of my other social medias, I started to notice that I not only used KZfaq much more, the way I used it also changed. Quite often I'd interrupt an educational video with fastpaced music, because I had gotten bored. This prevents me from gaining the knowledge from these videos which I veru rarely watch till the end. So that's the first step I will be taking: watching longform content till the end, no distractions. Thank you for the amazing advice!

**CW for a philosophical mention of death** When you think about it, our attention span gives us the key to make literally anything interesting. Whether it be a class that seems boring at the surface, or some album with a song that seems like a lower point, or some dead TV show no one talks about anymore, or a family reunion you feel disconnected to, or even your own life & death, when you don't have much else on your mind, and you throw yourself into a situation, noticing absolutely everything about it with your undivided attention, you become way less caught up in asking for more. You don't ask for a different song, you don't ask for another class, you don't ask for another season, you don't ask for different people, and you don't ask for immortality. You remain content where you are, making every situation work, being happy with what you have instead of resentful for what you don't. That constant appetite for bigger & better is replaced by a deep, somatic satisfaction.

It's such a blessing to find you KZfaq Channel Amy! I am a girl who's in 9th grade & I've been struggling with overwhelming backlog since this April and I still have the audacity to procrastinate it further and spend more time in distracting myself! Even during my classes in school, I have 0 attention to what ma'am is exactly speaking. I was so over confident for getting good grades that I ended up getting miserable and embarrassing marks 😖😖 Thanks for this video, I didn't knew I need this so much :) 🩷✨

This summer vacation I just reflected on the things that I've done on the past school days and I noticed that I procrastinated a lot of times, when I got notifications from group chats or even posts as you said I immediately went on it and click, and I suffered a lot from not doing the most important thing that should be done. I will just like cram until midnight ,its so frustrating actually. Not until I found this vid (and channel actually) that really help me to grow more and focus more on attaining good habits that will be very beneficial for me in a long term. Thank you, Amy! You're such a great help.

I really like the advice in this video. When I go on my phone during long car rides, it makes me feel lazy, it doesn’t make me feel any better about myself. Looking out the window or reading books during car rides makes me feel better. In fact, looking out the window, as said in the video, makes me think about life, and makes me have philosophical thoughts. One thing I’ve also started doing, that was said in the video is writing things down. Usually I go on my phone and write down things in my notes app, but as this coming school year is getting closer and closer, I think I will try to start writing things down. I have a small, spiral notebook that has a wood-like design on the front. I got it at a birthday party when I was younger, and I think I will start using that notebook instead of using my notes app. Using my notes app as a to-do list makes me feel enticed to go on TikTok, Snapchat, or KZfaq. I’m not allowed to have Facebook, Twitter, etc. Although I have restrictions, I agree with those rules as it helps me not be as “chronically” online. I have asked my parents to set screen time limits for my social media: TikTok at 30 minutes, KZfaq at 30 minutes as well, and Snapchat at 20 minutes. Although the only reason I use Snapchat is to maintain “Snapstreaks” with people and quickly look at peoples’ stories I know to keep up with them, I think this is harmful because sometimes I spend too much time on Snapchat, looking at peoples’ profiles, and I use it too long, so I set a time limit on it. I think Snapchat is kind of addictive so I may even ask for my parents to set a 15-minute limit on the application. TikTok, the most addicting of all. TikTok is the app that parents, schools, and elders hate. The most hated, unappreciated app. Said to lower attention spans. I think that is very right. If you give a child TikTok, they will start to use their time inefficiently, especially if you don’t set any limits on the content they view and take in. It is very hard to limit on content they see, and they can become very lazy and have “brainrot” humor. I suggest to not get on TikTok at a young age like I did, and that’s why I’ve started to set restrictions for myself. KZfaq is less bad for you, although KZfaq shorts is an entirely different story. KZfaq shorts take TikTok, and makes it worse, with more “brainrot” content. I don’t know why KZfaq ever developed KZfaq shorts, other than to get money, because it is horrible for young children. Luckily, I never was an avid KZfaq shorts user. KZfaq itself, however, is not that bad, as long as you set limits and don’t watch crappy videos for hours on end. The only place I don’t have a KZfaq screen time on is my computer. That is because I use youtube to help me better understand the subject matter I learn in school. As I’ve said, I suggest making limits on all your social media. I actually deleted KZfaq off my phone and TikTok of my iPad to encourage less use of the apps. Snapchat I have on both my iPad and phone just in case I can’t find or use my phone and I need to continue my Snapstreaks. However, the screen time limits still work for both those devices. I still have the same restrictions across my devices, other than my laptop, but I only use my laptop for school. I’ve decided that I’m going to try to go to bed earlier, around 8pm, unless I’m up studying. However, when I’m studying, I will give my phone to my mom and not let her give it to me unless I’m done. Thank you for this incredible video, Amy!!

I admire your decision and courage to make things right. Not many kids(i am assuming your age, sorry if wrong) can achieve such critical thinking and the capacity only of putting time limits alone is incredible. I'm sure that you will do great things in the future and keep up the good work!

Something I don’t want to miss out on is high school, because I am just getting out of middle school, and the entire time i was there, i wasnt able to consume anything from longer books to even just assignment dates mentioned by my teachers. I want to fully be able to reach my academic potential, and also experience more things before i am officially an adult. I mainly want to focus on tip numbers 3 and 5, because having no phone zones (ex: kitchen, bathroom, bedroom) will help me spend more time with loved ones, and designating time to studying will help me flip how my grades look, and help me take stuff i learned in school to real life.

I can happily say that I was able to make it through the *entire* video on 1x speed (usually I watch videos on 1.5 - 2x speed while skipping around). Along with that, midway through the video, I got a bunch of Discord notifications and I told myself, as you said, "I'll look at the notifications after I finish the video, then write a comment." and clearly I did that! I'm really proud of myself for it. This summer break, I have been really trying to work on myself as much as possible in many different ways. I have been trying to better my hygiene, go outside more, and focus more on my hobbies instead of living on the internet. I have improved in all of those aspects a lot and I have noticed that my screen time has gone down significantly. Along with that, I also aim to pay better attention in school, hence why I watched this video in the first place. One of my main hobbies is learning languages and while I've been able to focus a lot on Spanish, I will admit that I've gotten lazy with the other, arguably more difficult, languages I've been learning. I'm really hoping that this video, along with others, will help me regain my ability to self-study instead of depending on a class to get me started. Thank you *so* much for this video, seriously. I appreciate the time and effort you went through to make it! To everyone who reads this, have an amazing day!

Wow omg this vid really kind of changed my mind that I am making these bad decisions and not someone or something else. This vid helped me a lot more than other videos and the realization hit a lot harder than most videos and I want to thank you for that. You just earned another subscriber!

I am actually so proud of myself. I sat down, took notes and tried to be present. My attention span has gotten worse lately and I stopped living in a moment (I used to be kinda big on that). But then I was like ''wait, I can literally do anything I want'', so here I am. I usually never comment on videos but I wanted to say I'm glad I found your channel!

I honestly needed this. My attention spam has been getting shorter by the second, especially bc of summer. And it’s not easy to change it, but little things like watching your videos has been helping me, and I much appreciate it.
