The more I listen, the more it sounds like people need to be perfect before getting into a relationship. Being in a relationship itself is a perpetual work in progress. Even while being married!

When you meet the right person and fall in love, you will be ready and very willing and eager to be in a relationship - you won't even question yourself. I dated my husband when I was 19 - were we emotionally ready then? Maybe not. Were we work-in-progress? For sure. But we fell in love, grew and matured together and have been happily married for 25 years. I guess things were a lot simpler back in those days - we didnt overthink, overanalyse and all of our friends from uni who met and dated their partners around the same time as us, all have similar love stories. I agree with Alison, John Paul just needs to open the window and allow himself to be shot by Cupid's arrow 😊

Such great advice. Im 37. I know my wife then gf since I was 22. She was 23. We were poor. We didn't see other options other than to work through the challenges in life together. And we are still together after 15 years! With 2 kids. I'm not an ambitious person, but I'm a genuine and kind person. And I believe my wife treasure these values in me.

Hilarious ep! Have been religiously following the podcast, but this was especially enjoyable to watch. Feels like a group of friends casually chatting, yet able to seriously discuss their views without anyone getting upset/offended. Thank you for the openness & for another great ep!! ❤

"You always keep 1 foot outside the door" "I feel like you are just protecting yourself" Hits home for me. Felt like I am not good enough yet. When I eventually found someone, I will push them away at certain point because I felt like I'm a liability.

4:45 building on what Dan said. Appearance wise I think focusing on these few simple things will boost your confidence quite a bit: 1. Skin complexion. Invest in some skincare products/routine. Moisturiser, sunblock etc 2. Hair. Trim when it gets messy. Style/wax/gel when going out 3. Teeth. Floss, mouth wash, Visit the dentist for cleaning/polish. Braces if necessary 4. Smell. Simple fresh/citrus perfumes for starters. Apply deodorant on armpits before going out. Just general hygienic habits. It will make yourself more presentable, and more confident to go out and talk to people as well

It is really hard to commit in a relationship. You would really need to love the person enough (more than your ego) in order to stay in the relationship. You will also need to put in a lot of effort to be fully aware of your emotions. Every itch or discomfort needs constant reflection and attempt to communicate (peacefully, not to win) with your partner. Only the constant effort and willingness to improve the relationship can help you to mature as a person, and allows your relationship to grow. You will never be ready if… you let running away. (Unless it’s like abusive and shit better run for your life). Whatever you do, never run away from your emotions. You have to face it and address it. It is also considered running away if you find yourself constantly reacting to situations. Giving in without considering for yourself.

14:40 very important question asked! but its very interesting where the older generation thinks alot about settling down early, and using that as a pillar for a successful life, vs now where you feel like you need to be financially stable, before settling down. its a stark contrast in mentality that also spills over into having kids then and now.

Totally relate with what Jonathan said, recognise patterns, emotionally unavailable, and i am also a 91 child haha.. I think is because we're too ambitious, have goals we want to achieve, and frankly our goals is damn crazy too lol

Topic suggestion: With COE at such high price, is the system actually working to reduce cars on the road or is it most Singaporeans who cant afford it, and complaining for a change rather than earn for it?

Been watching the podcast since its start on MOSG, I always had reverence for John and thought that he was a very genuine person who wishes for the success of other people. With the release of these latest episodes such as the teacher waterboarding the kids where he therapized Jared and this one where he's trying to help JP, it just highlights how much of a good friend and person John really is, even with his example of JP holding the door it goes to show that John is actively looking out for these little things about his employees. Its very rare to find a person like John, a person who is considerate, wise and super down to earth. Wah this one really sounds like a dickriding session but meh. Hope this podcast reaches 1mil soon!

Honestly why think so much about how to go into a relationship or how do you start it ? like what John said it’s always a trial and error but if its successful ofc it would not be a waste of time but if it’s not definitely there’s smth to learn or improve on and then life goes on….. why ponder on it so much to a point you can’t make a decision most of the time 🧐 so is John Paul’s red flag indecisive 🤷‍♀️

LOL TDK has very good timing in my life... like this vid n the prior vid (abt body image) coincide with how i was feeling the past 2 weeks. Like i was getting depress over my image n weight n also harping on the fact ive nvr had a relationship n is there a problem with me. Then i also qn why must i change so much for ppl to like me n why cant i be liked for myself. So this n the last ep really hit home. Just a comment, it would be nice if you see from the girls point e.g. its the girl thats questioning why they are not dateable LOL Aka what im actually feeling. Also totally agree with what jp say abt finding someone is a probability 👍

I seen these types of guys. I want to improve but chase dating life is so wrong. recently there is a classmates who is interested. But of course I give him reason and red flags. He still insisting me to join his group. The third thing about these types of men is they keep looking at the mirror thinking why does the girl do not want to date me. Keep sending flirting messages during school meeting to many girls and laughing like a crazy man. Out of school policicy and personal life i wont dare to date someone in campus ground. Even though if the girl have a bf/spouse he keep chasing the girl. The only call to wake him up is to either have a coffee chat with him or ask him to change his ideology. These man have egoistic and blame people why they don't talk to them.

I feel Johnathan Chua was abit too hard on John Paul in this episode. We should learn to respect boundaries and have healthy debates. Who is to say John Paul being single is the correct choice? Who is to say Johnathan Chua being married is the correct choice? People need to understand that everyone makes choices and they have to live with those consequences. No need to be in on the high horse to tell others this should be right or wrong. I think sharing your view point on life and how it has enhanced it would be great instead. For we are always looking to be HIGH on LIFE. To be fully aware of LIFE this moment. Not using SUBSTANCES and getting HIGH on it thinking it is LIFE. It is only a form of ESCAPSIM when moderation is not there.
