N Step Steve Part 4 - my first cryptid has been spotted, Baba. What is a cryptid? What purpose do they serve? Lots of questions that this game promises to answer eventually. Let's see how deep the rabbit hole goes.

The idea that more cryptids are locked behind unintentional breaking of the game's mechanics is slightly terrifying, especially considering the amount there apparently are left to find.

Baba and N-step Steve do feel similar sometimes. Animal main character, pushes stuff, simple feeling rules that get crazy in later levels, the simple art style, the little crossover just feels right

This game definitely feels like it was inspired by Baba at least. It was the first thing I noticed by the art style and general interface of the game.

After watching the previous video, I went and played as much of part two as I could, and I am now completely stumped by two absolutes beasts of puzzles. Good luck with "The Chain" when you eventually find it.

3:05 Personally the puzzle game I'd most compare this to would be A Monster's Expedition, because it seems so simple, but there's like 5 times throughout the game where you realise "wait, I could've done that the whole time?!" and suddenly you're reviewing the whole map looking for spots to use that trick

For some reason, I thought these games predated Baba. It really seemed like the kind of game that would've been made during the Flash Renaissance alongside Fancy Pants and This Is The Only Level.

I believe that the original 5 step steve predates Baba, but n-step steve was made long after.

The creator of 5-step Steve made some other puzzle games, all with this simplistic looking graphics. The ones I know about are "Tauriel Teaches Typing", "The Man Who Can't Jump", and the sequel "The Woman Who Can't Jump".

18:37 (sort of spoiler for how many cryptids/stars are in the game) There are 29 cryptids and 28 stars. The game will say 100% completed in the map once you have all of them.

The further we get into other games like these “Step Steves” and now the squishcraft snake, the more I am kind of disappointed with TTP2. I liked TPP1, it explored a topic that I was always interested in with its story and made me think about religion and belief. But compared to all of these other games, the puzzle design just seems… safe? And then TTP2 was just so similar with the puzzles, and the story felt far weaker and less thought provoking… I don’t know. Maybe I’m being unfair to TTP by comparing with shorter, punchier experiences, but I really do feel more and more dissatisfied with it the more we see other amazing games again.

TTP2 was a lot like zodiac signs tbh: vague, overgeneralized, and intentionally created to appeal to as many people as possible while having little to no value in of itself. They even had their own version of actual zodiac signs with pandora, prometheus, and the sphinx.

That last puzzle room, would it be possible to shove all the flags down a space by having the rock get shoved down instead of steve? That'd allow you to get into whatever map is south of it as long as there was a second steve already below.

10:06 I think the splitter summons a dead cat because what's actually happening is that the moment you step on the splitter, ypu are no longer safe from the 0 pip flag and all cats on screen die, then it is duplicated back onto the flag, but only the one that actually lands on the flag is revived

How does the puzzle around 6:50 work, why can you avoid the empty flag on the right but not on the left?

Right one has 4 ice blocks in-between so when swapped , steve and the flag will never occupy the same block at any instance. Left however has 5 ice blocks. when they swap, both will occupy the middle ice block so Steve dies to the flag
