Anky is going to be just as much, if not... Tankier than its legacy counterpart. It's simply just a design choice. I happen to ADORE the new anky design (Btw bro I'm outa state rn so you pretty much won the 3k challenge 💀)

Okay here's the thing. Some animals do become nearly unhuntable when they reach adult size. Such as sauropods, ankylosaurs, and even Ceratopsid herds. The way to work around this is that you Hunt the Young, the Sick and the Weak , this is how most predators work. The appeal of playing as these animals Is that they're practically defenseless while small and young but when you reach adulthood you are awarded with an animal that most people will not be able to hunt. At least not solo, I mean in no world should one predator be capable of hunting an animal much larger than it for example a giant sauropod. Some animals should not he huntable solo unless you are just really good at the game

I disagree. If anky can get flipped by any apex carnivore and killed, it should be able to return the favor, anky is also slower than all of its predators, which prevents it from choosing any of its fight so if a rex "wants the smoke" it should get it.

Honestly I have no problem with Anky being nearly indestructable as long as it's literally the slowest thing in the game next to Shant and Sauropods. Make it unable to chase anything but in turn able to send an apex's head flying off by swinging it's entire ass around. Of course that's an exaggeration but I think it'd be pretty cool if Anky's alt attack could swing it's entire back side to hit something with it's tail club and do some insane amount of damage.

The ankylosaurs in other games swing their tail just fine. Idk what Dondi had an issue with

I hate the model, but not the concept art design. I just dont like the weird mammalian armor over the actual armor Ankylosaurus is known for. Also, *if* they shrink anky from the 8 tonnes (?) It was in legacy, then weirdly enough itd be more accurate for better and for worse. On one hand, the real size of the animal (4.9 tonnes) makes it an actual victim to every apex in the game (Spinosaurus included because its a menace in TI specifically)

I don’t keep up with the isle that much (you are the only isle KZfaqr I am subscribed to) but from what I’ve seen, minmi sounds like a better anky. It’s faster, tough enough to defend against most of the small faster predators and actually is unique. This anky change is stupid because it should be the opposite of minmi heavier and slower so it’s the predators fault if they get crippled by the anky because the predator can run away, anky only crippling small to medium animals is stupid because it’s a large animal that apexes will be hunting. It should be able to cripple apexes

The mental gymnastics needed to come to this design choice and concept is utterly mind-boggling. Terrible decision.

Idk personally I think out of all the dinos, that was the one they shouldn't have freestyled with. That's literally the best preserved dinosaur we have, so we have a pretty good idea of what they look like. There was even skin impressions left on one of them. They're trying to be realistic with all the one's we aren't actually sure about, but changing up the one we actually kinda do know what it looked like lol.

A huge amount of the backlash seems to have come from the dent in the back and the posing of the 3D render. The posing made it seem really slender as opposed to the coffee table many have come to love and the dent looked like a great spot to chomp down on, but the concept art seems to have fixed most of the concerns so that's awesome!

It is 100% a design choice. Their excuse of having difficulties animating anky and make it believable or realistic is complete bullshit. Every other dinosaur survival game, every game with dinosaurs, every show, every documentary, every piece of media with ankylosaurids in it have zero issues portraying the animal with its realistic anatomy while also animating it doing things that the isle devs deem "problematic". Every single action showcased on anky's concept art can be seen in "walking with dinosaurs", "jurassic park/world", "Ark", "prehistoric planet" and others. They werent restricted by any parameters, they *decided* to redesign it.

Here’s the thing, Ankys body was over 80% solid bone. This is why fossil remains show almost exactly what anky looked like color aside. I would much prefer anky to look like anky not armadillo rhino hybrid.

The archatype of an ankylosaurus is usually a slow peaceful animal that is nearly impenitrable dino that can kill u if u mess up. I dont feel this change reflects this. If ur worried about anky chasing crippled dinos is to reduce ankys speed so it cant chase anyone. I do like its behaviors and i look forward to every dino.

I somehow missed where all the hate for the new Anky model comes from... Idk -- I like this new design of Anky even though they took some liberty with regard to interpretation. Some of the elements have been inspired by Pinacosaurus I'd say, and in that regard the model isn't far off... Especially the concept art seems less boring than what I'd usually expect. To be fair, my fav is Allo and that didn't get messed up for Evrima from what we've seen so far.

If I were behind the design, I would’ve gone somewhere in the middle ground of slim and built like a boulder. The idea is fine, but it’s a jarring difference to me. Maybe I should make my own design? lol 😅

One thing I hate is people ignroing it’s club as it’s only weapon, I believe that Anky could use its head to headbutt (with not a lot of force Ofc, but smth that’ll warn a predator) otherwise anky deserves to be in the game, it’s such a unique animal that deserves it

Honestly, I like this anky design, maybe more than the previous one or other games' designs. Why? Because it looks a lot more like a real animal. It looks more realistic, and less like "cool badass club dinosaur with epic spiky armor plates rahhh". It reminds me a whole lot of an armadillo, and I bet that was one of the inspirations for its design!

I like the new design and idk why people hate on it. I feel like it has that situation with hypsi, it’s real life counter part looks horrible but in the isle it looks great. Not that ankys real life counter part looks horrible, it just that they took a different approach on its design. This is something that I’m going to love to play as when it comes out. And with the image of its design already made we could see this in the next 2 years. And that might seem bad, but with the progress the devs have done by Tomorrow, 6 playables have came out and if dibbles come out tomorrow too then we have gotten 7 playables within a year so I think the devs are cooking right now.

Whilst I did enjoy legacy’s design I can appreciate this new one, a stun based tail attack is interesting.. but we’ll just have to wait and see

From what I've seen, the hate on anky stamps mostly for it's design rather than gameplay And while it's fine to not like it's design, it's not a deal breaker and if enough people wanted it, they could always bring back the old design and have it be similar to skin pattern but it be a model pattern instead :/ That way they can bring back old legacy designs or make other new designs and allow people to play with whatever design they want to right?

The concept description imo makes out anky to be a perfectly viable tanky and hard hitting playable, but still has its weaknesses. It says that Anky should fear small tiers more than larger tiers which is a unique design choice. Its flanks are more exposed and are more open to attack for small tiers, wouldn’t be surprised if Omnis could still inflict bleed if pouncing the side, and no hunker down will save it from that. Which forces Anky to more aggressively defend itself from Omni/Dilo packs

Evrima's Anky looks decent IMO. Its design has grown on me, and the concept art of its gameplay looks solid. The only thing I'm slightly worried about is what happens when it gets flipped over. Does it die immediately, or does the player have to wait for the predator to kill it? If for whatever reason the anky survives, is there a way for it to right itself? Or is the player once again forced to watch it slowly die?

Tree climbing Anky mutation when? I want to be a really big fat Herrera and drop on people LIKE A STONE. Yes its a joke but we all know Anky could climb a tree if they wanted to, they would just have to smash it down to the ground first!

New Anky design has grown on me, but like most things in the community the hivemind rages on. Im hoping we can get it sooner in the roster rather than later (especially with how refreshing getting a new dinosaur type Dibble has shown). But on the topic of Ankylosaurian designs in TI, im still not a fan of Minmi's design. While yes its cute and not a terrible design. I just think it looks off, mostly in the face and legs regions. Plus I personally believe Stegouros would be a better addition than Minmi.

You said "protect ankys vulnerable head" no part of ankylosaurus exept the belly was vulnerable, the evrima design was for stylistic choices not because its hard to animate, ankylosaurus realistically would have a pretty wide swing range, give it a pivot ability and its done, no need to protect the head, which ankys wouldnt need to do either since its almost entirley bone

So ankylosaurus is known to have been preyed on easily enough that it evolved countershading to help keep itself camouflaged which is why I don't really like the idea that it can just block attacks. It's thought that its armor didn't actually evolve to protect from predators so much as protect from other ankylosaurs, which is why in my reply to your poll I suggested they go the route of resistances rather than big health pools and blocking abilities. Large predators, especially those known to break bone, like rex, could have reasonably bit into the armor. Keep in mind Tyrannosaurous' jaw was meant to handle the girth of things like sauropods (Don't be immature) and could probably open wide enough to take a chunk out of Anky's back. Also from what I understand, The Isle doesn't have defensive stats for its playables, and instead just has the size of the health pool determine how sturdy a creature is. I think Anky is one example that really shows off why this makes the game a little less dynamic than it could be in regards to how damage is calculated.

New Anky design screams skill issue to me. If you can't make an ultra-wide waddling dinosaur that has a -lame ass tail it uses for battling its rival- rock it can shatter the legs of its opponents with and -a surprisingly underwhelming shell considering it was preyed upon by a bonecrushing predator- impenetrable armor that gave it complete immunity to most damage work, you should have just taken it off the damn roster. Like cool, you made it faster, and turn gooder, and made the tail less oppressive. Good job. You created a Magy/Stego knockoff with a special effect, all because you can't conceive of a way to make a waddler work. Here, let me do it for ya, Dondi. JW/WWD knockoff style Anky: Anky is tall now, so it has a larger weak spot, and can be attacked by small creatures in a risk reward system. Longer legs mean letting it run faster is less goofy. Large carnivores could have a "toppling it upside down" animation, where it could still defend itself by turning on its back (using the tail, head, and swings) and still position itself fast by spinning around and smacking you in the face. Accuraccycore style Anky: Anky is wide, so let it waddle quickly sideways and bent forwards to act as a shield. Like, a kneel on the shield-pointing side, stretchy legs on the pointing-away side. It can smack with its tail, which in combat stance now has to travel far less, and head-bump, which does far less damage, but also the head is immune to damage due to being the most armored part of the body (the gucking eyelids of this thing had armor) so it functions like a shield. Also, because it shuffles everywhere anyway, being in combat stance barely slows it down. Better options for a "Mash a random modern animal into it" design: Snapping Turtle Anky: Spikier, thinner tail with no osteoderms more sensible, "crazy" eyes, making it a semi-aquatic is a not weird now and we love showing inconvenient things in the semi-aquatic niche Porcupine Anky: Tail hidden by the quills, can thus do crazy crap, Anky can climb trees to escape danger (/j), the stupid amount of defense means "risk Insta-death if you get flipped on your back" is now a reasonable punishment Armadillo Anky: Anky can roll into a ball to travel (downhill) faster, Anky can scream in agony, Anky can have a really tiny tail and Dondi doesn't need to worry about it anymore (it attacks with sound now) Bearded dragon Anky: Slightly longer, thinner, dragging tail means it can smack better, Neckbeard spikes for some reason, spikes around osteoderms means no ridiculous rng for attacks on the back (if they're putting that in), longer legs means being faster is less silly Sumatran Rhino Anky: Still a virgin Rhino Anky but at least this one is red and comes with chest hair "But it's slow" make it faster then, you already have dumb crap like Omniraptor and Penguin Beipiao in the game. "But the tail looks weird" Give it a longer tail then, or make it swing its ass too, or something. No way it'll end up looking weirder than kicking Tenonto. "But muh realism" The Game is making Ptera skimfeed, it's not even accurate to the concept of physics let alone anatomical stuff. "But I like the rhino design" Weird taste but this one is at least only subjectively incorrect.

Why are their designs so ugly? Not even a single good one.
