I have a 1990 YJ, a 1997 Wrangler Sport TJ, and a 2012 Sahara JKU. It seems when the introduction of the over engineered Wrangler JL began being marketed, the demand for the YJ and the TJ Wranglers greatly increased. I have had complete strangers offer to buy my YJ or my TJ. However, I have had them since new. I have no desire to part with them. I drive all three Wranglers regularly with the 1997 Wrangler TJ being the one I drive the most. They are more than vehicles to me. They are my friends.

Mines a 95 2.5L 5speed and I love it just wish it had the 4.0

95 Sahara owner here. 4.0L with 223K miles on it and still going strong.

Similar here. '95 YJ and 21 years. My first car, no reason to part ways.

My first Jeep was a 1991 4 cylinder. Drove it all over the Utah mountains in College. Made so many great memories. Just bought a 1991 to restore for my son as he gets old enough to drive...

Me too , got my 88 YJ in 1990 . so 20 years and still no rust. went through 3 soft tops. so now I just installed a hard top.

I have a 91 Sahara as well! 4.0 5 speed. It’s the second yj I’ve restored and it is the best, most reliable vehicle I’ve ever owned. Plus with a Jurassic park paint job it gets more looks then anything!

I picked one up a little over a year ago, 93 with the straight six, ax-15, hunter metallic green and I love it, 10/10 would recommend

They are pretty easy to repaint being a glorified rectangle. I'm building my self a 95 yj jurassic park jeep rock crawler

How in the world do you afford the gas on long trips like that? I took my 92 YJ on a 200 mile trip and had to fill up twice!

@@EricTingler our CDN$ been weak few years now - travel to USA even with the exchange rate : gas is way way cheaper - hotels are way cheaper - food is similar but x2 the portion and bonus people are very friendly and helpful all along the way - if you get the chance go ! :)

Jeep guys were mad when it came out because it was lower and had a softer suspension.

My neighbor sitting on one next door Newberry springs California, sounds like it needs a motor setting in the sun, I was thinking of buying it last year he's one of these junk Hoarders. Bought an 89 YJ instead last month.

That’s just like mine!!! I’m 17 and I just bought a 93 4.0L high output 5 speed too, it’s my first car and I want to keep it for the rest of my life. Mine has 84k miles but not a speck of rust on it anywhere. Got a 2 1/2 lift on it, new racing radiator, rhino lining, corbeau seats, brand new mt/r tires, w cold air intake, disc brake conversion on rear, power chip, cat back exhaust, w new rims that match custom painted badass front and back bumpers. Bought it for 12k from a firefighter who kept it in perfect shape and extremely well maintained, even said that he was 25k deep into it. If u see this comment please contact me! I would love to talk to an experienced Jeep owner

I got one 1993 had to change slave cylinder "drop transmission " $1,700

The YJ is more reliable, chromoly axles and a front axle power lock cable makes it pretty sweet.

Strangely, a coworker long ago had a tree fall in the front of his 1994 YJ. We went to a Jeep salvage yard and we found a yellow CJ-7 with the front in near perfect shape. Yellow YJs were not very easy to find in salvage yards yet because it was just out of the YJ era. But the wrecked CJ-7 was, the perfect colour. We bought the CJ-7 front and the bumper. We expected some manufacturing to make it fit the 1994 YJ. We were surprised everything bolted right up. The yellow on the CJ-7 was a little bit shinier than the YJ tub. But a wax job fixed that. The end result was a 1994, "YJ-7." Everyone thought my coworker got a CJ-7.

@@overlandtoshore It was a 1989 Jeep Wrangler with the carburated inline six. The CJ-7 front was from a 1980, I think. It was almost a direct bolt in keeping the YJ front bumper. I used an aftermarket radiator I got from 4wheel parts that had an electric fan already on it. However, I imagine if you want to keep cost down an OEM CJ-7 radiator would be the way to go. If I remember correctly, only one bolt hole on each of fenders did not line up in the middle of the fenders on the trailing edge of the flat side that met with the tub. All the other bolts lined up perfectly. I just drilled a hole where the one bolt hole had lined up and put a plastic body mount through the hole to help keep things tight. But I doubt I even had to do that. Everything else lined up perfectly. I know that in 1992 the roll bars were changed to what the TJ has. I do not know if anything else was changed that could cause the CJ-7 front end not to line up properly. But the 1987 to 1991 should be a direct fit, minus one bolt on each fender. You will laugh at how easy it will be to create that part of your Wrangler YJ-7. Remember to get an authentic CJ-7 badge to put under the Wrangler Badge to mess with Jeep people's heads. One thing I really wanted to do but did not was to retrofit a CJ-7 dashboard into the Wrangler CJ-7. It would have fit but the guages would have required extensive lengthening of the YJ cables and lots of splicing of cable harnesses and manufacturing cable harnesses. I bought the CJ-7 dashboard but never installed it. I just bought a stainless steel overlay for the original YJ dashboard instead. Use the YJ top and windshield. The doors are interchangeable. The CJ-7 full hard doors are superior to the YJ full hard doors, in my worthless opinion. I really enjoy the vent windows the CJ-7 doors have. Dump the YJ mirrors and install stainless steel CJ-7 mirrors. They work with the doors off. The YJ mirrors come off with the doors. Then you have no side mirrors. Many YJ owners, including myself, retrofitted CJ-7 mirrors to their YJ. As my own worthless preference, I put a TJ rear bumper on the Wrangler YJ-7. The owner agreed with the decision. Everything else pretty much stayed stock 1989 YJ for awhile. We later changed the bellhousing to a 1995 YJ so we could have an external cutch slave cylinder. It seemed the internal slave cylinder of the 1987 to 1993 failed easier and it was hard to change. After we switched to the external slave cylinder and bellhousing to accommodate it, everything stayed together and the slaved cylinder was never changed again. If you can, swap in the axles of a 2.5 litre four cylinder manual transmission equipped YJ into your inline six YJ if you get to do it. The 2.5 liter four cylinder manual transmission equipped YJ had a 4.11 to 1 axle gear ratios. It was something we planned also but never did. Something I later found out is the body of the 1994 to 1995 YJ is galvanised, like the body of the TJs. Well, that is all the worthless advise I can give on your Wrangler YJ-7 build. Enjoy your build. Put a YJ suspension lift in while you are building. As for you left over YJ front end. Do not discard it. YJs are no longer produced. Keep the dreams of others alive. Do not give it away unless you see there really is someone making a project and really needs it. If you give it away with someone just barely starting, they may throw it away. It is best to sell it for an economical price. That way it will not wind up in a crusher. Your original front end is still extreme important. Give back to our Jeep community if you see the project first hand. Or, sell it economically but not insanely cheap.

@@ipdjbt Go be stupid somewhere else. My family's been in the jeep business for over 5 decades and I can tell you without a doubt they are way over valued for what they are. The XJ vs TJ is a perfect example. A XJ comes with the same drivetrain as a TJ , has many more " luxury " items, many more parts to produce, yet a nice TJ will cost you roughly twice what a nice XJ would....

Totally agree, I love them but well over priced for what you get. As far as cj's, yj's, xj's they have the least amount of metal and the least amount interior and they are expensive for what you get.

Hard to find one at a good price ...keep looking you get lucky sometimes

Very reliable motor. My 2.5 1995 still runs strong with zero leaks.

@@raptorm8242 my 98 2.5 just rolled over 90k. It's the slowest vehicle I own but still a blast to drive.

Just turned 188k on mine. Had to fix a couple of fuel line leaks due to age of flex lines (steel ones fine), also replaced everything in the ignition system. Runs smoothly and still has over 60 psi oil pressure. Great to pop the top and drop the doors on a beautiful day and go anywhere you want.

YJ added track bars to help road manners. CJ had a 'wide track' axle starting in '80 or '81. Axles were actually wider by a couple of inches.

Track bars are no where near the same thing as sway bars. CJ-7s weren't any wider than CJ-5s. Around 83 they put wider axles under all the CJ models.

@@JuanGuzman-op3hw Yes it had that interior and I sold it for only $2500 just before the prices went crazy. It was a really late 95 so it had some TJ parts on it like the rubber windshield bumpers on the hood, a TJ steering box and TJ style hinges on the rear door. It was another one of the vehicles I should have kept!
