We need more videos in how to improve the mental than how to "improve at x thing in the game", I was in the top 500 not long ago (decayed mainly for mental barriers i'd assume cuz i stopped being able to set any plays at all or gain ranks) and this video genuinely motivated me again, I feel like this video does a much better job at helping anyone than any of those tutorials

Honestly an awesome video, as a 6 digit for 4 years i genuinely have went through the stage of ''i have to warm up with this and this'' etc. I dont have a huge playcount which is why im so low rank, but i have learned that osu is just a game that i like playing from time to time, and ever since i acknowledged that, i started improving quiet rapidly, perhaps the fastest i have ever lol.

Started playing osu in 2016. It's been one hell of a rollercoaster. Started on standard for 1 hour. Quit the game cause the gamemode was boring but noticed that mania existed. Found it interesting and took it from there. I played a lot until my parents stopped me from playing the game, so my playcount from 2017-2020 i believe was zero. However during that time I was playing on games like stepmania, then malody. Around 2018 is where I found standard more interesting and started playing offline. Eventually I found mcosu and exclusively played offline for a really long time. Came back to osu officially and farmed my way to high five digit. 90k. My mania rank was lower half of 4 digit but decayed heavily since then because I didn't submit anything. Fast forward to beginning of 2023. I decided I didn't want to be the stereotypical offline player that is capable of playing higher star rating but inconsistent on his actual star range. Additionally, I've been playing the game so long on mcosu that I didn't want to be the type to only be good at mcosu. So I started farming. Now im a few ranks from top 15k and 4 digit doesn't seem that hard. During my whole time playing osu, I took so many breaks and had my interest spread out into mania. Additionally I have a life outside of osu, at one point getting heavily invested in sports and on the team during highschool so naturally I just stopped playing all together. I have never had a month where I played the game consistently especially now that I am in college, but its extremely satisfying to see the improvement while not taking the game too seriously and just going with thr flow. Whenever I want to play, I do. Some months I rarely play to focus on school or I don't feel like it. My goal was to get my standard rank pass my mania rank (although it has heavily decayed) by the end of the year. I have done that and I'm super happy because my skill at mania has always been heavily ahead of standard, although I don't play mania anymore because it's too much for my hands. After enough years of playing this game. I've just learned to enjoy my time and accept I'll improve at my own rate so no rush. I have so many other things to focus on other than osu, and I still improve on an incline so really no rush😂

Same. I was frustrated with being good enough to pass 8 star maps, while only being able to FC 4 and 5 star maps. Not being rewarded at all for passing hard maps was demotivating, and playing 5 star maps was just too boring. So now I'm only playing with Relax and it's fun as hell - it's just sad how completely uncompetitive it is... they could at least add a Relax leaderboard or something.

6 years of somewhat consistent gameplay, 20k here. I was 25k just 3 days ago and something just clicked for me, I found myself able to play through nerves and fc things previously though impossible unless I improved more... but I did it. For anyone wanting to rank up, just keep going and playing new maps, styles of maps, and increasing local scores, even if by just a few combo or thousand score, every little bit counts.

This feels like a constant cycle between I want to improve and If I can't improve, instead of sitting there and looking up videos I sit down, think about it, sit back and just not care about improvement, because improvement will come one day and burning yourself out, because negativity and not having fun, it's just not worth forcing yourself, it's not worth comparing yourself to others, it's not worth to smash yourself against a brick wall, the improvement video craze is not worth looking into, i just look back at scores and go "What can I immediately approve upon, and what may be a bit more difficult to learn?" that is the mindset I've taken with at least mania, if I can't do it and start being negative? I take a break, play a different skillset or play with friends.

I literally did the Leonardo DiCaprio pointing meme when you mentioned Bubblegum's gameplay playlist. That honestly is what got me to and above playing 4* maps some years ago. Great stuff. The way I treat osu! is just an interactive music player. I couldn't care less about the rank, and this is going to sound cheesy, but I like _feeling_ the music. That's about it. I play a couple songs, and once i can't really tap comfortably to the beat anymore, I close the game and do something else.

My goal when i started playing was to become a 5 digit and ever since i achieved that ive kinda just felt lost when playing, not knowing what to play or where to improve, and just aimlessly play whatever looks interesting as i scroll through my maps, ive tried creating a new goal for myself that is relatively attainable, set a 300pp score, but this becomes exponentially more difficult because of a neurological condition that affects how i experience stress in that there is no regulation in the release of stress hormones, resulting in upwards of 4x the amount of cortisol and adrenaline given a similar situation to an allistic person(the main reason im more of a pass player), this has caused minor medical complications in the past from playing the game /setting or choking scores and i really dont think continuing playing would be worth it for my medical wellbeing but i still keep playing because ive played for quite a while and i don’t want to just leave it all behind me. I really don’t know what to do/where to go from here, i know the best thing would probably be to just quit but this is OSU! we are talking about we all know that is borderline impossible. I also ended up playing a few 6*, jump maps, to obviously which i have some ways to go... im at 600k right now, and my arm hurts from a few days ago, when i used like all of my energy... and my tapping ability is probably going to be damaged for a while for gaming too hard hahaha.. i literally spent 9 hours on the game, and im pretty washed because of my arm, even though i do infact stretch before each osu session... so yeah i have some ways to go until i can actually do 5*'s comfortably without actively hurting my arms n such

i quit the game a little over a month ago, came back exactly a week ago and it feels very refreshing. i started with offline play for a little bit because i quit for the exact reason that i cared too much about my rank and used that as a representation of my improvement. this goes to anyone having the problem, whether if you're 6 digit, 5 digit, or even something higher than that. DO NOT USE YOUR RANK AS A REPRESENTATION OF SKILL (or top plays). once i started playing again, i was getting better scores on maps that i couldn't do BEFORE i quit, which was right around when i peaked in overall skill. its all in your head. also the genetics thing, that is completely wrong. everyone has the potential, but if you get stuck on unhealthy mindsets, it will absolutely destroy the experience. don't shoot yourself down for a flaw that you can fix. and no that doesn't mean grind over 8 hours every day relentlessly, that will ruin the game for you (and probably your hand). acknowledging your problem is step one, but it won't go away until you find a solution. i probably didn't need to write this comment but i feel like some people may need it still. i hope this helped at least someone even if its just one person.

I've been actively learning taiko ever since last summer and I've intentionally only been playing offline to avoid putting even the slightest amount of pressure from the ranked system nonsense onto me. It helps me enjoy the game way more , which makes me play the game more, which means I'm probably also improving faster than if I was putting stupid nonsense into my head from pp and whatnot. I also played standard for 7 or 8 years or something, and I remember the most fun I had was in the beginning when pp didnt even exist in my head. Just sick ass tunes and clicking the circles

Thinking about it now, quitting osu (playing it seriously) was the best thing that happened to me. I used to be 6 digits for like a long time, mostly playing dt farm maps (which i later regret) and at the time I wanted to set unrealistic goals in such a small amount of time coz I kept hearing about other players are improving really fast. My mental health deteriorated; comparing myself to other pro players, wanting to be a pro myself without actually understanding the game at first and going with the basics. Furthermore, i just kept doing horrible in the game and my rage for the game was starting to affect me mentally and also I had a horrible addiction to the game. I decided to self ban myself by multi accounting and reporting myself to osu!support which was the best thing coz rn I’m doing well in life, I met tons of amazing friends and I was able to improve on myself. P.S. If the game is hurting you mentally, physically and is taking a toll on you, just quit but I don’t suggest self-banning yourself.

"I'm not improving fast anymore" is the #1 motivation killer I see amongst new players, and it's always because they're comparing themselves to the improvement of other people. Jokes aside i do stop osu since early 2022 not just bcs of busy with irl stuff, but mainly bcs i am suffering from musician dystonia. What it means is it basically makes ur hand acts haywire and u have no absolute control over it but it only happens on certain tasks. For my case it happens to my left tapping hand, and how it works is everytime i tried to click with index and middle finger, my ring finger curled down aggressively and stiffen without me being able to control it, and if i use index and ring my middle finger would lift up like crazy and stiffen. But when i use my left hand to lets say, writing with it, it doesnt act up like when my left hand is on keyboard. I apparently went through 5 stages of grief and depression and bargaining phase is the worse one bcs it interferes my mental state and my work progress. In the end i had to drop the game and later on reaching acceptance phase and my life somehow become better by socialising with people. So yea u could technically stop osu if u experience what i do lol

i started playing osu in 2012 and i was very bad i played for 2 years with mouse and keyboard and never improved, but i never focused on improving and mostly played multiplayer with friends we could only play 3 star maps. Then i stopped playing osu for 7 years, when i got back and played for 2 weeks and i could somehow play 5 star maps, after playing 5 star maps for 1 month i got myself a tablet und got used to it pretty quickly and after 3 months of playing with tablet i could suddenly play 6.5 - 7 star maps wich was shocking to me! So what i want to say is taking a break from osu can also help (atleast it did for me).

My outlook on osu is that I can improve and my rank will change how it does, up or down. PP isn't skill. I really like seeing myself getting better at the game, and there are so many different skillsets that it'll take a long time to get good at most or all of them. graveyarded maps help a lot with this, there's a lot of cool and weird maps that are great to play, but don't give ranks. I still play graveyarded maps even though they don't change my rank cause I'm still learning from them.

As soon as I cleared Alpha Dan, I basically lost all interest in the game outright because I could barely pass Beta. (Yes I'm talking about mania here) I felt genetically locked but also a little bit strict because there were younger players than me in the same country (Great Britain) that were excelling their best and they're like, late-teenagers or even adults. Whenever I tried to improve, I entered a depression. Not because I wasn't getting anywhere, not because I was trying too hard, and not out of jealousy. It always invoked this response since 2019. I had no idea where to go next, so I only just went to playing it every now and again. Every time I boot up the game to play it again I realise I made the right choice. I'm not getting any better, and I don't really want to. I'm not even in the top 8,000. Well, I was for a while, but then my account got banned falsely and I couldn't appeal it. But the game is just not fun anymore.

I recently quit osu completely. And you know what ? That's the best decision I have ever made. I've been playing osu since 2017, spend around 2k hours in total, and recently I have been thinking wtf I'm doing, spending 5+ hours on a game every single day, so I decided to quit and focus on my life, now I'm on my way on starting a business and gonna grind money from now on. And for someone who reads this: osu is not worth playing a lot, cybersport scene is so small in that game, so you're not gonna make a lot of money here, so just play it on a weekends for 1 - 2 hours, and focus more on your life. New osu tip: play less.

The time to quit osu is when you have RSI or similar. I feel like my best skill is managing to continue having fun even with all the years I've played the game (started like 12 years ago or so) There are times where I encounter a map which manages to defy my skillset in such a way I get D-ranks, so I'll end up playing a lot of similar maps for a while and a few months later I get As on those same maps and that is one of my biggest joys. I play on lazer client exclusively for over a year, don't look at leaderboards and compete with myself. The greatest thing about this way of playing the game is being able to enjoy unranked maps, unranked mods, maps which would be absolutely trash for PP in the same way.

Yeah i think allot of improvment advice is bs besides maybe map suggestions, but otherwise it really is just "keep practicing until you eventually i get it". I personally struggle allot with comparing myself with other players and getting upset when i get passed by someone for the 6th time this month. Watching everyone seem to magically just get it does not help when you feel like you're giving it your all and seeing the same results. But thats just life ig, and regardless i just like the gameplay and want to be able to play harder maps. How others improve really shouldn't effect that.

I have 500+ hours and i'm still 257000 player. I'm also playing mouse cuz tablets are uncomfotable for me (i tried many times, screamed like a madman and than sweatch back to the mouse). For me its hard to play jumps, even 5.0 stars. I think am mostly playing for pp and sometimes just passing some random speedy maps. I cant understand how to play jumps, for me speed is much easier. I can just play for 1 hour and than i'll be ready to play speed map but its not working for jumps at all. I dont even remember when i enjoyed OSU, thats because i cant play the easiest map set - jumps, they to...''random'' for me. Jumps also very boring to play (most of the times). i think low bpm one are cool but maping on those are sometimes cursed af.
