I am fortunate to have resources for ammo popping up all around me. I have an ammo store that just opened up about 5-10 minutes from my house and they make their own ammo. They have very fair pricing on 9mm, but if needed, they do have 223/556 as well as 45 ACP, 300blk, 7.62x39, and 7.62 NATO. I will have to do another audit of my ammo levels to see where I'm at currently. I recently bought 500 rounds of 30 Carbine that just arrived at my bulk ammo shop, 500 rounds of 9mm and a couple of boxes of .223/.556.

Just remember, regardless whether you feel comfortable blowing through ammo that is not your primary load, you might think twice about that as well. That ammo will be someone's primary ammo. It then becomes a bartering commodity. If you must shoot something, try black powder guns. Lead bullets can be cast, primers can be made, black powder can be made, and the guns are relatively cheap. Save ALL cartridge ammo.
@deadhorse1391

I shoot black powder guns, mostly Flintlock though I do have some percussion guns In my experience is that blackpowder is usually harder to find then most cartridges are. I know about making black powder but it’s usually about buying the components and mixing it…Not really a solution I don’t think
@noapologizes2018
@noapologizes2018 3 ай бұрын
@@deadhorse1391 I understand. This being my hobby, I find it cheaper and easier to compile all the components for black powder guns easier than one might think. One weekend can yield two pounds of powder, and I can cast a couple of thousand rounds during that time. The caps are homemade as well, using the proper ingredients and a cap maker. But, results may vary and you have to want to do it.

I wonder what is causing the reliability issues with your reloads? I’ve been reloading 5.56 for a few months now and they’re working well. I’m using a RCBS small base die and checking after resizing with a Hornaday case gauge. All brass gets checked for length and trimmed if needed. Only bad ones were long tracer projectiles loaded without any data. They were over pressure failing to cycle, some blown out primers, and damaged brass.

Powder for my dear (deer) pew almost $60 for 1# before taxes. Right, so I go to buy box of seeds and it rang up $5 more than sticker price. One box please. Poor disappointment me.

How are you not getting your 223 reloads to be reliable? I can try to give any advice if I can. I use the lowest of the low for components, around .25/round. Around $300 rifle and mags that even the army didn’t want anymore. No issues. Maybe I’ve just been lucky with reliability this whole time haha.

And for those that say you don't need small base dies probably haven't been reloading that long and are ignorant to the fact that small base dies are made for a reason you can tell when your starting to have a problem with your brass by using a go no go gage your brass will start to get fat at the base and won't quite go all the way in the gage but will still chamber in your gun that is tell you it's time to run your brass through a small base die in my opinion it seems to happen more often with 223.

Not to add to the panic, but Sam Gabbard has stated in recent emails that there will be roughly a 7% increase across the board in May. It seems the intermediate rounds are taking the biggest price increases lately. Edit - correction, the 7% is in June from PPU. Kinetic group (CCI, Speer, Federal and Remington) will be raising handgun load pricing May 1. Others have publicly stated they will follow the increase.
