I've ridden expensive bikes my entire life, you have 2 options . 1. Obvious well traveled place, and a chemically treated brass lock Or 2. What ever lock you like, lay the bike flat, in an obscure area off well traveled trails, lock it to a stump or such and camouflage it with branches so it's not visable nor obvious... if you go this route, don't forget where you put it ;) # 2 was my preferred method when I'd bike into climbing areas and do some vertical routes as I didn't even think about it then, my am bike was a $9000 specialized, my dh that I did this with on occasion was $18000. Never had an issue FOMF :)

@@MrDmadnessnever heard of a chemically treated brass lock. Brass is generally very soft so does this harden them significantly and way harder than alternative hardened steel for example? Also don't suppose you have a few example locks to suggest so I could take a look please?

2:20 I'm assuming that by 30 you mean 30mph... yeah on a thing with brakes that tiny and sketchy that would be really quite fast. Just for comparison, those e-bikes look like they have 160mm brake discs most likely with cable actuated calipers. The average moped, meant to go that same 30mph, comes with a 220mm brake disc with hydraulic calipers. Now you might think that such a small difference in brake rotor diameter is trivial, what's 60mm, right? Well the same applies to the brake pads. Moped brake pads measure roughly 3x1.75 inches, bicycle brake pads are usually 1x0.75 inches. That's 5.25 square inches of surface versus 0.75 square inches. And you guys are somehow insane enough to trust those tiny brakes to stop you from speed. Part of the reason why e-bikes like those aren't street legal in many EU countries is because the brakes are so woefully inadequate. It's your choice and all that, but to me those brakes look like they couldn't possibly hope to dream of overpowering the motor in those e-bikes should a throttle get stuck wide open. Which was only confirmed when you couldn't do a "burn out" on seemingly loose sand as the front brake couldn't hold the bike. You do you and all that, but I would not ride those things.

Most e bike have hydraulic brakes, same with any decent bike. Cable actuated disks are pretty bad, better than rim brakes but just as tiring to use for long decents i assure you as a former downhill racer the brakes are more than adequate for stoping. That squeaking though is likely a organic brakepad that's glazed or the mount rubbing on the rotor.. aka, not mechanically sound :) respectfully intended.. Fomf :)

I'm pretty sure 160 is one of the smallest brake rotors they sell for bicycles, and there's plenty of bikes with 200mm+ rotors. Also you're completely ignoring that most ebikes weigh 50-100lbs vs most Vespas are probably between 200-350lbs. I've been able to skid and/or do stopies on rim or disk brakes. I'm pretty sure that tires and traction are the limiting factors on bike braking outside of the rare person actually overheating their brakes on long down hills.

@@RoboJo-pq8pjAccording to Shimano Europe's website they use the same size brake pad, regardless of rotor diameter for all of their 160-220mm brakes, the only variance is in the size of the caliper, but you can get a larger caliper on a smaller disc and vice versa. By comparison a moped usually has a disc brake from the 125cc motorcycle of the same model. It's a much bigger rotor, because it's meant to stop that scooter with a max GVW of 240-250kg from 130kph. Also the mass difference isn't as big as you think. Most mopeds are under 100kgs, metal bodied Vespas and Peugeots are the exception to that. Electric fatbikes are about 30kgs on average (according to a very cursory google) So there's about a 60kg difference, but add in an 80kg rider and you're looking at 110 vs 170kgs. But kinetic energy is half the mass times velocity squared. So the mass difference really isn't that big a factor. It's more about the ability to convert that kinetic energy into heat, a brake pad that's more than 5 times the size is going to do that considerably better. I wouldn't ride something that goes moped speeds, but doesn't have moped brakes. It seems like a bad idea, given how most motorists might as well be legally blind.
