Just a ramble for new bass players, after playing bass for half of my life now: never forget Bootsy Collins funk formula, find the "1" on the beat! Master it, then start playing with it. I feel like new players understanding the beat is a good early step to go alongside ear training. It's not too hard, and it's very rewarding to recognize the musical alphabet. We even speak in musical notes, and having a stable tone gives our speech more clarity. Don't start by going crazy in practice. Each time you improvise, always start over from the "1" of the beat and the root note. Use the simplicity to identify the chord progression, and eventually, the entire chords themselves. Just using the root is a good start, because you can now apply Juna's advice of dancing toward the 3rd/5th/7th notes of that chord. It's like a coloring book, and the band is your outline. Together you make a big picture. You're a legend, Juna 🙏 Have a nice day everybody.

Juna, Juna! I hope that you will seriously consider jazz as a "career move". You appeared to genuinely enjoy making this video, and although you have played many genres of music, and experimented with many bands, you really have a sweet spot in jazz. You playing is fluid, and understated in this video, but your command of your instrument and your phrasing are solid. I hope that this video is a gateway to a great jazz career for you.

I've been getting into jazz for several years now and I'm glad to see that the way I've been learning is pretty similar. Starting your walking lines from the 3rd can be an interesting exercise as well, and indeed, Autumn Leaves is one of the best to practice with!

Juna is a real passionated ( bass) player musician and is becoming better and better in a short time and..very versatile as well...I really enjoy your progress and the variety of styles you are performing with all thes bands . As a bass and guitar player by myself for more than 40 years , I am very happy to see young people being still fascinated by handmade music and keeping up the flame , the more ,they are such great musicians at that early age !

Hello Juna. I follow their music with interest. Thank you very much for sharing. A long time ago, I used to play rock and blues with my band. As I watched you, I wanted to deal with music again. Of course, I also listen to jazz now and I am interested in learning jazz bass. I'm even thinking of buying myself a new 5-string bass guitar. There is something I'm curious about. Which tuning system do you generally use? E-A-D-G-B or B-E-A-D-G? I would be very happy if your answer is informative.
