One thing I respect the Chinese for, is their “it will take generations to make things right” mindset. Too many third world countries are immigrating to a functional system instead of fixing their home. The amount of extremely bloody revolutions and civil wars in China could’ve easily made it barren and uninhabitable, but every time, they got back up and rebuilt the country again.

@@danielc1792 The Chinese did not take the British seriously. That was the ruling mentality. For one, they didn't even think that British ships could go inriver until the saw the steamboat sail past the coastal forts and threaten to cut off Beijing from the south. That's when they wanted peace. Even when they gave Hong Kong to the British, they didn't think much of it, it was a small pathetic fishing village. The Chinese have never been threatened from the sea before. I believe they legitimately assumed that they will never be a national threat and go away in time. Here was the prevailing strategy the Chinese probably thought they were dealing with. Cultural dominance, and only war when profits are high, risks are low. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n6d3frWoztitmok.html It was only when Japan (Japan! Impossible! It would be like Vietnam conquering Southern China and holding it) was able to take Chinese territory that they really were concerned. But such an authoritarian nation that focussed more on controlling it's own population than dealing with external threats was far too slow to salvage the situation that Japan had prepared themselves in time.

That's good though - honestly I think being politically correct, resorting to emotional responses and NOT having these raw discussions is infinitely more detrimental in the long run than actually saying it. We're creating even more problems that way and neglecting discussing the real issues, wasting our energy on trying to solve all the wrong problems. Nothing will be achieved if we keep sniping at eachother from a distance, bringing up past grievances, blaming everyone else and then insinuating everyone is a racist. If a White man said something like this even in the same tone it's highly likely he'd be branded racist and that would be end of the discussion. Not productive, not helping.

Fast forward nearly 50 years later, Somalia is an utter hellhole with death and destruction everywhere you go, a country with not even a single operating factory as they have been destroyed and looted, the people who are starving on fertile lands (in the South), a corrupt, inept, tribal “government” which barely controls the capital city with the assistance of African Union troops and a country rampant with armed gangs and terrorists labelling it the most dangerous country in the World. Its theire pride that keeps them from doing so and still go theire way and keep building houses made out of mud.... some of these tribes still eat humans there were some videos shown in wich tribal humans ate other humans..... these videos were of course deleted as they are way to crazy for humans to watch I mean that stuff really makes you weird so just dont search it. lol that's a joke and a half. Democratic governments don't impose one-party rule or ship political opponents and religious figures (or ethnic minorities) off to concentration camps. Xi also enshrined himself as leader for life. Just because he hides behind a title synonymous with what republics and democracies use for their leaders doesn't make him any less of a de facto lord and master to the citizens there.

And after 7 years, this video is more relevant today than it was 7 years ago. Very little changes in Africa. Ugandan Economist and Author: Elly Twineyo-Kamigusha couldn’t have said it better! When you discover that you are riding a dead horse, the best strategy is to dismount, bury the horse and get a living horse. However, in Africa more advanced strategies are often employed, such as; - Buying a stronger whip - Appointing a committee to study the horse - Changing riders - Arranging to visit other countries to see how other cultures ride dead horses. - Lowering the standards so that the dead horse can be included. - Re-classifying the dead horse as "living impaired". - Hiring outside contractors to ride the dead horse. - Harnessing several dead horses together to increase speed. - Providing additional funding to increase dead horse's performance. - Rewriting the expected performance requirement for all horses. - Promoting the dead horse to supervisory position..................

I passed around this video in first or second years of the pandemic and this popped out again with more newer comments, mostly highlighted the reverse racism if this was done from a westerner. Didn't understand why that was being much pushed, while the topic is us Asians and Africans discussing national development. And my reaction as a disflourished Islander Southeast Asian and Indonesian to the video is still the same. The Chinese didn't consider the starting point of DR Congolese societal condition enough. The Chinese can't understand why the Congolese cannot get things properly from their colonial masters whlie their people are pretty much disfranchised and their borders are hand drawn by the Europeans for their resources. China have been around literally before Roman empire and able to unify and risen from destruction by themselves by their monolithic virtues. Dissolution of a dynasty and a civil war following, the foreign invasions and bad harvest and natural disasters that kills many millions and, they learn past that and survives as an entity. A century of humiliation from the English and other Europeans and the savage invasion from Japanese hit them hard in the modern era so that they learn hard to adopt modernism. The disastrous Mao policies taught them hard how to step properly forwards so that we get how the Chinese now advanced this fast whlie the DR Congolese are pretty much still in languish in the same time. DR Congolese, or much Sub-Saharan Africans didn't have any of that. Their leaders before colonisation literally sold their people to foreigners for personal gain. They wars among themselves and never really at higher point where they can stood high to foreigners who are visiting in recent centuries. They modern border are hand drawn without much considerations of native demographics that pretty much are still being influential in people's life amd mind. And when they somehow managed to did just that and want to modernise themselves some foreigner exercise some influences to put down that, either with assassinations or just burt out proxy war so that their power and resources line didn't disturbed. So there's that: the DR Congo border is made for resources exploitation and it still is, just it actors is inherited from the Belgians (and that dreadful Leopold II), and Europeans to local warlords. I don't think the Chinese put enough account into that. Though as bad as the Congolese being slapped unfairly is, the Chinese here still did good to him. Now he now that the Congolese state is ruined from the start and pretty much will be like that to the future. The Chinese bring cheap technologies and developments to easen people's life surely yes but if those mad warlords is still around they won't get enough past that. The Chinese may won't interfere with their politics so that they can develop internally but idk how much they can gain from that, especially when the ruling class establishment can ask for tech of information barrier for the people. While what the Chinese did to the Congolese is great, I think it was a shame that the West within their legacy as their former colonial master and cornerstone of democracy and human rights - if they really think they is - cannot do the same to the Congolese, instead of pertaining their influence behind the ruling establishment and warlords. Development with human rights values if done well is much better than the Chinese monolithic views. But things wont turn around like that easily, it will never. At last, as someone who works with the Chinese and knew their language, if I were the Congo man here I will hop into him instead and follow him to live in China. Guaranteed it will much serves him and his families much well that what they will ever achieve in their land. Wild thought.

People don't say "truth hurts" without a reason. Thing is: the black guy isn't going to accomplish anything until he mans up and accepts that truth. It also wasn't his fault his parent's generation destroyed all that technology, infrastructure, agriculture, industry and law the colonists left behind, but that doesn't mean he can just ignore that fact. He has to accept his history, learn from previous mistakes and then, and only then, can his country begin to prosper in any way, shape or form. They're still going to struggle thought, because the black mind just isn't hardwired to think about the future (that's scientific fact, google it if you want, there's plenty information about it on youtube as well), it's a great deal of why they struggle.

I am a Chinese working in Filipino for years, have to go back in last month since you know our countries had some "disagreement". Filipinos always think they are so open-eyed and open-minded, but from what I know, they are so close-minded, sometimes make you speechless, even a few Filipinos go outside of their country, see things, know things, they either stay there rarely go back to Filipino or go back but choose to do nothing about it. When I was there, my company build so many hospitals, power plant, power grids, the Filipinos we train know how to maintine them, but they never improve or learn from the projects they are working in. I say these because I still love Filipino people and all my friends there, but ffs please do some real changes, your people and country could be so much better.

Didn’t y’all cry about the United States not respecting y’all’s freedom or something back in the 1800s? Yeah I found some kids homework while at work and the lesson was about how our president at the time, and I’m not making this up, was being oppressive and all the bad things because (as a white man) he said that the Philippines needed to be protected and governed by the United States (summarizing) and how the Philippine whoever was like “nuh uh, we deserve to govern ourselves, you’re being racist” and the kids answers to the questions were “president is saying they shouldn’t belong to themselves and the Philippine guy is cool and against colonialism” it was the wokest trash ever and if that’s at all the attitude the Philippines has towards them being lifted out of 3rd world country hood by the United States, that by all means maybe they just deserve it. In Chinese culture, if you like people then you are honest with them. Even brutally honest. So in the Chinese guy's head, he _is_ being kind to him, because he's telling him the truth. The fact that the truth hurts is not a reason not to say it: in some ways, it makes it more important to say. Think of it this way: if your friends don't tell you that your new hairstyle looks bad then you will go out and strangers will laugh at you. It's important that your friends say "No, this is a bad haircut and you look stupid" so that you will not be embarrassed by others. He is being kind. Just not necessarily in the way you'd expect.

They sang and danced and celebrated but the next day they ate the seeds from the bags instead of planting them. My teacher's team sent furniture for the local school, the africans sang and danced and celebrated but they never assembled the furniture and ended up using the planks as firewood. They sent a motorcycle to help them travel long distances to other villages, they sang and danced and celebrated but one of them took the wheels for his handcart. Finally they sent a solar powered pump for the well, they sang and danced and celebrated but at some point the button became disloged and fell into the command box. All they had to to was open the box and put the button back in place. They never did. Those are people who do not plan further than the next half hour, as such they will always need help and will never progress.

The Aid Group did this for two years, and the yield was at least double each year after.
