You see US er, everything is subject to law oo. There is an association called HOA (Home Owners Association) who regulates housing matters in the US. If your house or apartment is under this association, then you are automatically guided by the rules and regulations.
Part of these rules include house maintenance. You will be literally fined if your lawn exceeds a certain length. Good thing is, all the rules are shared with you in your tenancy agreement, so you are definitely in the know.
My friend and I had to mow her lawn before the law catches up on us hahahaha. I hope this was educative.
