I have a feeling had Mapleshade been born into the time of Firestar's leadership or even his time as just a warrior of ThunderClan, her story might've turned out so much happier. Both RiverClan and ThunderClan met her with cruelty.

I read the Warrior wiki and I looked down at the tree. Crookedstar was leader when Fireheart (star) was a warrior. Reedshine (who was alive with Mapleshade) gave birth to Shellkit (shellheart) and Shellheart was mother of Crookedstar. Firestar wasn't alive at the same time as Firestar

“Now all my stories have been told. Expect for one..” I feel like that part for her means that now everyone has told the stories of her, about how she had a half-clan relationship and murdered cats. But they didn’t tell the story of how much she loved her children.

It just hit me that according to Warriors own canon, the fact that Mapleshade is remembered and not her kits means the kits would’ve faded much sooner than she would have… … and I find that heartbreaking

If she was truly a good cat, she wouldn’t be taking advantage of kids’ weaknesses and insecurities to make them train in the dark forest. I like Mapleshade as a villain I just don’t see why people support her.

I absolutely love how the lighting changes after her kittens appear and she appears as not a a villain, but just a hurt mother, showing the side of her the others don’t see anymore.

Here’s like a little theory or story I came up with thanks to this map, maybe once a couple moons,Starclan lets Mapleshades kits visit her in the dark forest. This is the best thing Mapleshades ever had, and she refuses to let them see the true horror of the dark forest. So she takes them to a hollow in the tree to tell them stories and keeps them safe. This is an awesomely sad map, everyone had such beautiful styles.

I think Mapleshade would be so much less cruel and brutal in the dark forest if this was cannon. Maybe she’d even try to help all the manipulated apprentices escape the Darkforest and get some sort of redemption, similar to snowtuft. I don’t know that sounds super interesting, though.

The familiar pale coat of the tom glimmered in the Dark forest dim and dying moon.Mapleshade even after all these years in total darkness would remember the stench of her ex mate, appledusk. Moons and moons ago the scent of his pelt would make her heart act like spooked sparrows, but now it felt as if dead leaves were scraping against a old infected wound. His pelt was as starry as a moonlit sky but the three small figures were shooting stars eating the shadows away. This was not the first meeting, though it felt as if it were by the amount of excitement she felt every time her old eyes laid upon the three wonderful bundles. Appledusk looked at her, his gaze still filled with distrust even after all these moons, he spoke, his voice as youthful as the day mapleshade tore out his throat that had been filled with broken love poems and shattered promises, "You know the deal, Mapleshade," He held out a paw in the air, one claw glistening from his pelt."One night a full moon, you receive our kits, you are able to hunt in starclan hunting grounds and you may sleep there aswell until i come to fetch them." Mapleshade, not trusting her tongue to lash the warrior with hate, nodded her head and watched as the kits did the same with their father, sharing tongues one last time as he turned and walked further into the bright forest, leaving the mother and her kits to share stories and wishes, hunting and playing together in ways they never could in the clans. For one night, Mapleshade tasted prey, for one night she felt safe, for one night, Mapleshade was with the three simple reasons she continued to fight for every scrap, every nest, every moon filled day.One night a moon, was why she fought to see her kits again.

I like to think that apple dusk has enough respect for maple shade as a mother to promise her one single night with her kits, it’s a bitter sweet idea but I honestly perfer it over the actual ending

I’m not one for crying, but this nearly brought me to tears. The overall demeanor of this project is so soothing and comforting, expressing how Mapleshade did several of her deeds just for her beloved kits without even showing the specific scenes in the MAP. Phenomenal work to each and every participant! I wasn’t able to fit all of my words into a few sentences before typing an entire essay; I hope I said enough, but whatever I didn’t, just know I am silently acknowledging all of what everyone did to make this possible!

I always saw Mapleshade as a horrendously evil villain, but this map showed me such a different side of her. She may be a merciless killer, but she does have at least a drop of love left in her. No one deserves what happened to her, no matter how evil. This almost brought me to tears.

@@sunkelking She saw her kits suffering and did anything she could to heal them..she was an amazing mother for that, killing wasn’t right but she thought it was what starclan wanted; I cannot hate her for it, if starclan had intervened or anything else she would of stopped in a heartbeat as she wasn’t a killer. And she was justified for her hate on starclan, they didn’t stop her but instead punished her for something that was no ones fault keeping her from peace and her kits in the afterlife; The only one I hate is her old leader and starclan, their punishments broke her and were unjust.

@@testerwulf3357 it was 110% her fault for killing. it should not be anyone's responsibility to stop someone from killing people(or cats, in this case). it is reasonable for her to dislike starclan. killing never makes you a better person, a better mother, whatever. is was not wrong for her to go to the dark forest. it is what she fully earned and deserved. yes, maybe it is sad, maybe it is disheartening but what she was terrible and unforgivable under any circumstance.

@@sunkelking Than why didn't Clear Sky go to the dark forest? He killed a lot of cats, more than Mapleshade and still got to starclan, She didn't even get a trail like Leafpool and Squirrelflight did. Once Mapleshade died she was Automatically put in the Dark Forest without a good reason, the Dark forest wasn't ever talked about until the second series but was introduced offically by name in the forth series. If they knew about it from the start I think their lives would have been different, also the warrior code was broken when Oakstar bunished Mapleshade's kits along side her over personal feelings that shouldn't have been bought up towards her bunishment. Ravenwing as well was in the wrong for saying Mapleshade's kits was going to being death that didn't happen until after her kits died! If anything Mapleshade and her kits shouldn't have been bunished and should have been given a normal punishment towards Mapleshade and nothing towards the kits which could have been raised to hate their father. Mapleshade out of all the Dark Forest cats should have been given a second, she in general she should have been treated fairer by her clan leader and not banished, a banishment is for thing like Brokenstar, Tigerstar, and Darkstripe doings. Oakstar should have been reasonable and asked Ravgenwing if the sign was fully about Mapleshade's kits or not because than Ravenwing would have learned it was about that strom. Mapleshade wasn't treated fairly before she become delusional after her kits death, Appledusk also cheated on her while she was kitting. And the Erins did admit long ago that Mapleshade's fate was originally destined to be leader of Thunderclan but Oakstar being blinded because of his own feelings towards Appledusk ended up killing Kits, the medince cat, his own daughter, Appledusk, and even Maplehade herself, if he hadn't things would have been different.

Sorry for being late but here's context in a nutshell: Girl cat falls in love with guy cat and it's a forbidden relationship. Girl cat has kits. Guy cat cheats on her and then snitches on her. Girl cat AND kits are banished. Kits drown while they find a new home. Girl cat is shattered. Girl cat goes mad from grief and loss and kills the Guy cat and others who exiled her. Girl cat is eventually killed and sent to the cat equivalent of Hell. K that's the canon story basically but here's the video: Girl cat is sad in cat hell, kits come by sometimes and she loves them and is bittersweet. I cried sm at the end :((((

i know people often say "this made me cry" and they didn't actually cry but i swear on everything i am and everything i ever will be, i cried. real tears. i was at a halloween party and got nauseous trying to suppress my sobs. this is one of two maps that have made me weep. holy shit. i'm blown away by the raw emotion in this map. love maps that make me feel. incredible work to the host and all the artists.

Like this mother, singing to her deceased children whom she loved so much, going through the motions as if they were still there. like- like- I WAS DOING HOMEWORK, I LOOKED UP, I SAW WHAT HAD HAPPEN JUST AS THE KITTENS WERE RUNNING DOWN FROM THE MOON AND EYES JUST STARTED LEAKING This is beautriful and wonderful and, y'all in the Warrior Cats fandom are cool as heck

DUDE IT'S FINALLY HERE! I love that this map shows the side of Mapleshade before her kits died, she was just a mother trying to do what was best for her kits and then when they died she just snapped. I always felt bad for her because she probably never got to see her kits again, even in star clan

I always had a head canon that her kits always visited her in the dark forest and she would play with them and make sure that no other cat in the dark forest came anywhere near them and if a cat tried anyway, she’d Unleash a mother’s wrath on them

Mapleshade may be evil and though I don’t generally like her character, I still pity her. She’s a murderer yes, what she did was wrong and unacceptable, but she truly lost everything she loved. She lost her kits, the cat she thought she loved, and her clan. The main reason I don’t like her character is that when she died, she wasn’t truly regretful she was in the Dark Forest. I thought she’d want to be in StarClan where she could live with her kits, but no, she’s perfectly fine with where she is. I like this map, one, because it’s beautiful, two the song really tugs at my heartstrings and three, because we don’t see enough of this Mapleshade in maps or even the books. She’s mostly portrayed as a vengeful and dark character. I wish she showed at least some regret for failing to reunite with her kits in the afterlife.

The sad part is the only reason why she killed is because she was suffering from hallucinations she 100% believed were actually her kits telling her they were trapped unless she did these things.

Honestly, I think that’s why (or one of the reasons why) they went back and changed the Dark Forest. (They literally did this like right after the MAP came out in ALITM) They made it to where the forest itself immediately corrupts the cats, and begins to make them crave power or begin to give up, either or. I feel like they gave Maple one too many scenes for her to have just been there to be scary, and she really did sound like she was under its influence. When you take in just how many people voiced their concerns about the ending, especially people in the Tumblr and YT community, the writing team had to have noticed.

The reason she was more happy where she was after she died (I’m assuming), is because she got what she wanted. The death of the 3 cats she hated. Although she meant to kill Reddshine instead of Appledusk, Apple was like a replacement, and Apple hurt her more than anyone, so she was probably like “oh, ok cool”.

This is why i live mapleshade so much, and why she was such a great villain. Her reasons we're actually reasonable, if a mother lost her kids. Some would lose it, I know Mapleshade murdered people but come on guys, she was in alot of grief and wasn't thinking properly. Put yourself in her shoes, if you lost your kids cause of a accident you did you'd probably snap too. Grief really fucks with your head.

this showed that Mapleshade is more than villain bent on blood soaked revenge, she's a grieving mother who was unfairly exiled. all blame goes to Oakstar on his baseless actions. though he had the right to grieve his son's death but no excuse on what the bastard did.

@@TheFoxtabulousVixie Actually- Bluestar and Graystripe were still pretty much punished in their own ways Bluestar lost one of her kits, gave up the remaining two of them, left her mate then later on her grown up kits hated and resented her after what she did Graystripe actually loses his mate in his half clan relationship and later on, his daughter after she sacrifices herself So no they didn't just get a "slap on the paw" they actually lost their loved ones- Sure it wasn't the cause of exile, but it was still pretty much a punishment and no she 100% deserved to be exiled after she lied and fooled all of her clanmates that a dead cat (who was also loved dearly by a lot) was the father of her kits That is not okay At least when Graystripe and Bluestar lied, it wasn't hurting anyone except the code- Which in itself, yeah the code is horrible and I myself hate the whole "can't fall in love with someone in another clan" But Mapleshade literally harmed people with her lies- (not saying it was out of malicious intenet but it still wasn't okay)

@Graveyard Fox I disagree with two things here Frecklewish by no means could’ve saved the kits even if she wanted to A patrol was already there, and they are known as good swimmers It is obvious frecklewish would’ve thought they have been safe Thunderclan cats are also not professional swimmers, they can indeed swim but they cannot just simply throw themselves into a flooding river You would not save someone from a house fire if the fire fighters were there would you? The point of mapleshade of being in starclan is something I heavily disagree with Mapleshade by no means should set foot into starclan You can have the worst life ever, and that would never excuse murder She murdered three cats, defiled a man’s grave and tried to kill a pregnant queen Her crimes speak for themselves Even if she truly was hallucinating, it again isn’t an excuse because she clearly didn’t hesitate to kill people for her kits- She had a right to die after murdering a helpless apprentices mentor (even if that mentor was a jerk) She literally traumatized a child in the process And I honestly doubt her kits were actually there, kits don’t just casually tell your mother to kill people but that’s just me And if you still don’t agree with me, you absolutely cannot ignore what she did to crookedkit She was clearly happy when she set foot into the dark forest and she didn’t hesitate to manipulate a child

I haven't been in the Warriors fandom in years , and I saw this remembering how much me and my friend loved MapleShade. And omg this was AMAZING! Through my tears I sent this to my friend saying "REMEMBER ARE WARRIORS FAZE COME AND CRY WITH ME!" Everyone did a fantastic job and I love watching this animation over and over.

gods, this made me tear up. honestly imo - Malpeshade didn't deserve everything that happened to her. she loved her babies to the ends of the earth. I like to think starclan takes pity on her, and sometimes lets her see her kits cause they need their mamma 😭

I love the idea that the kits would wander out of StarClan territory into the Dark Forest to visit Mapleshade, and Maple would plead with the cats that sort of decide who should be let in to StarClan just to let her in to see her kits.

Gorgeous! One of my favorite maps put out this Halloween. Maple has done awful things but I really wish she could have a chance at redemption, even if she does so begrudgingly just so she can be with her beloved kits again. I feel like it would start out as “Urgh let me just pretend so I can get into starclan and see my kits I’m really not sorry for what I have done” and eventually, very slowly. She would start to understand her actions and perhaps even feel remorse. Of course what she did was wrong and horrible, some people seem to think as a fan of hers I support her actions. Which I absolutely don’t, I just really want to see some character development for her. She’s manipulative, and cold hearted, but a change would be welcome and would honestly make for a great ark. (A super addition would be to short, and would rush this, making it seem forced. It needs multiple books to feel realistic) Lots of love, A bullied mapleshade fan

I really love mapleshade. She was treated so wrongly by the clans. Oakstar was so cruel by punishing the innocent kits by exiling them as well, and Appledusk was absolutely wrong for not stepping up as a father.

How could Appledusk step up as a father when he lost his kits because Mapleshade made them cross a river during a storm, knowing it wasn't safe for kits to cross. He stepped up enough to protect the kits from his clanmates prior to their deaths. You clearly haven't read the book if you think he never 'stepped up'. ❤

Instead of taking responsibility and defending mapleshade & his kits, he shut them out and called them all mistakes, and stood by as his former mate was threatened and thrown out from her clan & his own.

@@Dominic1024_ He didn't call the kits mistakes, though?? He said breaking the code was a mistake. He loved his kits, which is evident in the book. Mapleshade literally manipulated the narrative throughout the book and did mental gymnastics to make it seem like he was in the wrong. He admitted to being in a half-clan relationship, saying something along the lines of, "I know I made a mistake by meeting with Mapleshade," to which Mapleshade thought, "Mistake??" To imply that he was saying the kits were mistakes, which he never said. He said that he knew he had made a mistake after saying that he broke the code. Which shows he was, in fact, taking responsibility. The one who should've taken responsibility was Mapleshade. She got their kits killed, convinced herself that everyone except for her were at fault for what happened to the kits, and used that as justification for killing innocent cats.

I feel like all the other Mapleshade maps mainly show how she was betrayed and how she got revenge, but this one is different in a sad, bittersweet way that I think reflects on who Mapleshade is and what she lost. The only thing she wanted was to love her kits and to be loved by Appledusk, and this map shows that. I was definitely crying by the end. Thank your for making this. ❤

this was just gorgeous. the colors are so beautiful, and the lipsyncing was amazing! all the artists did so well. i loved all of the thumbnail entries, and the outro was so good!! the slight tweens and movements here and there add so much. i love seeing a gentle, positive map between mapleshade and her kits

This is one of the rare instances that a map has made me cry, but I have this weird condition lol where I only cry out of one eye Every other day, MapleShade waits by the edge of the dark forest, waiting for the familiar white glow from a StarClan cat. Once she sees the glow, she tears up and hugs her kits, the other StarClan cat watching for any suspicious behavior... MapleShade has accepted the fact that what she did was wrong, and because of that every other day she is aloud to see her kits.

I love how when the kits came out of the moon, the lighting changed from a very pink-redish tone to a cooler tone, and when they’re gone back to the moon, it went back to the usual pink-red light

I am not a huge fan of her, especially when people ignore her murderous behavior But I literally adore this m.a.p so much- She loved her kits she really did, she just made poor decisions which lead to their deaths This is very beautiful like I love mapleshades design

Somehow Ashfur got into starclan because “love makes you do crazy things” but Mapleshade wasn’t? Mapleshade lost her kits after being betrayed. But anyways, this is absolutely amazing!

I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT! 🧡😭😭 I always wondered why no one had dedicated a full project to Mappleshade's motherly side, so this is wonderful! I also wonder what her kids became in Starclan, and what they thing about their mother. Propably nothing great, but I do hope that they still remember her gentle side. After all, she tried to be as good of a mother she could to those tree when she was still sane. Thank you for a beautiful tribute to a side of her character that not many maps concentrate in

Oh my god poor Mapleshade. Her kits dead, mate disowned her, clan kicked her out then the clan she tried to join as a last resort. She was driven to madness for the need to avenge her kits deaths. She is by far my favourite character and I will always love her.

There's nothing to say about this that hasn't been said before, but this is such a gorgeous piece of work. It's so ethereal and perfect, from the designs, the translation from storyboard to animation, even the end credits. Wonderful job everyone, and congrats to Louixie to having her wonderful idea brought to life with the help of incredible animators.

I love this map and thanks for this because MappleShade is often shown as a cat that madness has destroyes, we know her as being mad and vengeful, while there is another part of her, that of a loving mother to the end. Thank you for showing the mappleshade side than i love so much ^^

Omg it turned out so beautiful! I love maple shade and her kits so much and I feel this caught the side of mapleshade that isn’t shown enough because in the end she is just a grieving mother who lost her everything her babies her clan and her mate. She deserves so much better and I’m happy people see her as not just a killer or a monster, she wasn’t treated fairly and I think that if things had been different then she could have been an amazing mother or mentor in the future

This map really shows how much Mapleshade loved her kits. She murdered out of anger and wanted revenge for her kits death, she tried to transport her kits to RiverClan and had to watch them drown in a river. And then when she tried to go to RiverClan she got rejected, she got rejected after watching her kits drown she probably got very frustrated and sad. I feel like if her kits had lived and she just made it with them safely to RiverClan with them she’d just be glad that they were safe and live happily with her children as a rogue. And to all the people that think she’s a bad mother, consider thinking about how much she lost. Now about the map, the animating of everyone is amazing and I think everyone did such a great job. This map is beautiful.

Because of this map, I now have this headcanon where cats in the Dark Forest get visited by their loved ones in StarClan for a few hours every moon. I love this so much ❤
