@@rvgearandfar leather gloves. I have work gloves, but they won’t stand a chance against exposed steel belts. I might even add cut resistant gloves used in the food and beverage industry.

We carry electronic flares, Triangle reflectors, plug kit for holes, battery powered adjustable 120 to 1200 ftp impact wrench, 1/2 in ratcheting breaker bar with digital torque adapter, 12-ton Hydraulic jack, 7000lb scissor jack, Jack stand, Tire minder 12-volt air compressor. set of deep well impact sockets. we use the Tire minder i10 TPMS system, 2 types of head lamps, high lumens battery powered area lamp. large rubber mats to lay on, I've been meaning to buy the vest but haven't yet, that being said I will before our next trip, we travel 4 to 6 months at a time.

I just purchased one of those ramps that you drive up on if you own a dual axle rig. It's the best $50 I ever spent. I changed a tire last week in my driveway. Just drove one wheel up and the other hung there. So easy. If you get a flat on the interstate, you don't want to play around getting a jack out and changing a tire. I wish I purchased one before. I also carry a impact wrench to get the lug nuts right off. I still carry a couple of bottle jacks and some pieces of 2 x 4's just in case, but that tire ramp is awesome. Some people say it won't get their other tire off the ground. Just put a 2 x 6 under it and bingo, you have another inch and a half clearance. I was skeptical about buying one, but not now. Great video!!

I've yet to use one myself but they look awesome - except for the size - definitely not something I want to pack around when there are smaller options available for travel - but I may have to get one for at home use!

I made a 7-pin connector for my 12v air compressor so I can connect it to the trailer 7-pin connection. That way you are at midship and don’t have to open the hood.

And that's working well for you? I think it'd all depend on what size fuse your 7pin power has whether this would work well for any individual setup - the downfall of the cigarette lighter style plugs and pumps is that they're definitely limited on power compared to the ones clamped directly to the battery.

I can see that working fine, but if you disconnect the trailer you wont have flashers on the back.

Emergency warning lights and visuals is the best tip, I work for AAA and protecting our emergency drivers is a priority because the risk/danger is real! I think I better beef up my emergency visuals for sure…..

Good video! 👍 When one travel trailer tires go, more seams to follow. I upgraded my tires after one went. Now i keep a spare on the rear bumper and another under the queen bed.

As you mentioned, the lug nuts on the spare tire were different than on the axle tires. I switched them out from the local hardware stored so they would be the same size in case of an emergency. Also, I was adding the ammo carrying boxes to my bumper just this last weekend and found my spare tire loose on the bumper holder after the 1200 mile trip to Florida for the winter. I had an anti lock device on it and that was the one that was loose. Need to keep that is mind also to check that once in a while. So sorry for all you tire issues. I pretty much have everything you mentioned. Have the reflective vest when walking the dog in the evening. Had a number of complements because of wearing them at night in the dimly lit roads. I don't travel at night anymore due to set up in the dark. Stop 2 hours before sunset (the rule). Keeps the marriage better. Thanks for everything you post. Good call on checking the spare tire after a long travel day! Sometimes it gets forgotten, especially if you have a cover over it.

I had the same exact issue with my factory rubber valve stems and TPMS sensors. I upgraded to steel valve stems and now the valve stems have no flex at all anymore.

Agreed - the new valve stems are significantly stiffer. If I look at the wheels I can actually see where the rubber ones rubbed on the rim because of the amount of flex while rotating over those 20,000 miles.

The reflective vest is something to add for sure, we rarely drive at night with the trailer. We have the LED triangle that has multiple flashing options. I keep a old jacket/cap under the back seat for those, crawl under situations. Everything else/methods you have is the same 👍.

Viair sells a 7 pin conversion kit, now I can plug into the 7 pin plug on the truck and reach all truck and trailer tires.

Thanks very much for an excellent analysis of the three incidents with tires! A great lesson for all of us RV folks. In my case, I have pretty much all the same tools you discussed, but what I am missing is the safety vest and some warning signals like triangles or flashing lights. So thanks for those suggestions! I'd agree - the visibility aspects are just as, or even more important, than the tools to fix the problem - wheel doesn't care if we get hit while on the side of the road because another driver couldn't see us in time. I've got two of these drawers stacked with an additional regular compartment on top and those five stacks fit under the tonneau cover of my truck - then I have one large husky rolling box that holds all the large items - bottle jack, jumper cables etc www.homedepot.com/p/Connect-2-Drawer-13-Compartment-Small-Parts-Organizer-248984/314213515

So strange that you had 3 tire issues on consecutive days?!?! I wonder if the steel belt debris from your truck tire damaged your trailer tires when it exploded, and those damage spots gave way in the following days? Excellent tip on using items that take the same batteries. I learned that lesson when backpacking and have carried it over to my trailer accessories, which typically use AA batteries whenever possible. As for emergency tools, we use the flashing strobes underneath the pop-up style fabric cones. We find that it creates a large glowing object that draws a lot of attention.

That's an interesting thought - possibly for the trailer tire issue - doubtful for the valve stem leak. I like the strobe lights and fabric cone idea! Question: do the fabric cone bases have enough weight that the wind from passing traffic won't tip them over?

@@rvgearandfar Oh, I think the value leak is the more likely of the two to be from the truck tire debris. It would be so easy for a steel strand from the disintegrating belt to have hit and sliced the stem while flying by. Although, it wasn't clear from your video if the damaged valve was also on the driver's side, and I don't know how wide belt debris like that will spread out during a blowout, so if it was on the passenger's side, maybe not. As for the fabric cone question, it depends on which ones you get. We got ours several years ago, so I don't know the brand. Passing traffic isn't an issue, but a windy day can be. Regardless, you can always weight them down with a rock or a spare tool. But, yes, I'd focus on getting ones with a wide base and some weight to them when possible.
