Having built some pole Barnes for.myself I would suggest adding some insulation now while it is being built. Much cheaper to throw on some between the steel and structure now. Then if you want to section off more areas for added insulation down the road you can.

You definitely want to go 16 foot doors. Build it once build it right. Big rv campers, big trucks need big doors. And taller doors offer better resale value down the road should you want to re sell it. More attractive to someone with big equipment

Photographer/videographer here - You guys also will have the advantage with that barn of being able to install and hang some fixed photography/videography light and softboxes to showcase cars in an almost studio/professional manufacturer sort of way, would be an easy way to take your channel to a whole new level above the competition if you had proper lighting in a space like this

I love watching this! We bought some acreage 2 years ago. I cut the 1/4 mile driveway and some walking and ATV trails myself. After running a skid steer for summer work in college 20+ years ago the learning curve was short but the progress slow. Fortunately we had time so it worked out alright. I left the big dig excavating for the house to the professionals (who actually allowed me to drive the 6x6 Articulating Dump for them!) Good heavy equipment operators are fun to watch and extremely underappreciated! The right equipment and a good operator is the best real world argument for hiring a job out vs DIY I can think of; keep up the great work TFL Crew!

Wow, that's a lot of money for a barn. What are you planning to do with the barn? Just store things? I imagine if you are going to produce videos in it that you will want to heat it, which will be a big expense. Great series guys. Thanks for the inside look.

Where's the Tumbleweed Ranch merch? Love this series. Can't wait to see how you do your cut/fill. I will say I'm with the rest that say get the 16' high building with a 16x14 door. However, I'm not the one writing the checks so what I say doesn't matter. Morton sent the right man for the on camera work. He's a natural. No clownish overblown sales crap. Just straightforward information. Love it. Well done Morton. If you guys really want to get fancy, put in a heated slab (pre place lift mounts though!). Not sure how hot that thing is going to be in the summer with only a couple windows for cross flow ventilation. Maybe add a garage door on the west side (that's gonna get hot in the summer when the sun hits it). Good west winds coming off the front range will move the air through nicely.

First of all, Morton Bldgs originated in Morton, IL, over 60 yrs ago. Originally just local to central Illinois but now all over the country. And, for insulation, you ought to check into spray foam. It acts as a vapor barrier also so you don't get condensation. Lastly, I'm envious. I want a shop to play in!

Damn right, saying your "playing" with a bunch of dangerous ass construction equipment is a bit of a clue. Guessing there is no such thing as Health & Safety considerations in the USA, In the UK the employer would have to do a risk assessment in the interest of the employee and public safety, is the person trained to use the equipment? who is at risk? etc obviously the answers have implications for the insurance of the employer. A untrained/unqualified person using the equipment and having an accident would be a liability nightmare. Obviously, if your hiring the plant equipment for personal use it is different than hiring it as an employer.

Great video Roman, it is a big undertaking to build something and a blast to watch take shape, i designed a house with my wife in 1999 and we did our own drafting , sent it in to the city to get it approved and permits and watched it take shape right from digging the basement to move in day, Taming Tumble Weed Ranch series is going to be great and look forward to each and everyone, so many in the comments say how much for a pole barn, it is just a sign of the times, globally it is product in demand everywhere you look, you'll make additions along the way to suit your work needs and tastes and hey it's what we humans are all about our individuality and makes others say hey that neat or thats cool i would have never pictured it that way,It'll simply be awesome, journey begins with the first step or bucket load in this case 👍

I'm a bit surprised the "regular" bucket has a wielded lip and not a bolt on sacrificial lip. High use will make bucket uneven also can switch between saturated teeth and smooth bucket. Surprised also no pallet forks. What ever boots are ok once they are broken in, composite toe is good for heavy equipment.

@dedalliance1
@dedalliance1 2 жыл бұрын
Good chance of breaking the truck, snapping a chain or other bad things. It's really not a matter of power it's a matter of traction which you're not gonna get on that crushed asphalt driveway. You'd have to yank it and use the trucks momentum and that's when things start to break. That stump is designed by mother nature to hold thousands and thousands and thousands of pounds of tree above it potentially 100'+ feet tall in huge wind storms applying massive amounts of torque without coming out of the ground. A truck has nothing on what that stump can handle.

Fun watching your build process, brings back somewhat recent nightmares that I went through 6 years ago in the foothills above Golden on the side of a mountain. First step was trying to tame the mountainside and creating a flat spot to build the building on. Literally it was making lemonade out of lemons. It did limit the size I could build though (did not have unlimited funds), eventually ended up with a 25 x 65 x 25 foot steel building. The next step was trying to decide between a pole barn or steel building. Since I wanted the most space possible but had a limited footprint, opted for a two story steel structure as I wanted the first story to be able to accommodate any size vehicle possible and ended up with 14 feet tall garage doors. Not possible with a pole barn as I believe they are limited to 16 foot sidewalls. Talked to a number of contractors,including Morton. Morton was the worst by far as the individual I dealt with had a “ glass 3/4 empty attitude”. Was nearly impossible to get him to come up and even quote me as he did not want to drive from Fort Morgan or Sterling or wherever on the plains he was to Golden. Upon his arrival as he was exiting his pickup truck he proclaimed it would be an impossible build. Why? I live at the end of a cul-de-sac and he claimed there was no way he could bring a semi truck up and be able to turn it around. End of discussion and he was gone. Guess what? Eventually I found someone to build it, and they brought a semi up with the parts and easily turned the truck around at the end of the large cul-de-sac with no issues. At any point, I could ramble forever. Had many other challenges, took forever, and am enjoying the barn. But it was an incredible nightmare to get it built! Good luck and will continue to enjoy the videos!

@@Bigboyz-li7fo Yes, a steel building allows you to go taller, thus allowing you to have a 14 feet high ceiling below and still have a usable upstairs without a bunch of rafters upstairs. A pole barn is not able to do that.

Good lord that’s a lot of money for that barn. And I don’t even include a slab. I just built a 40 x 60 steel building 16 foot tall with two walk doors and four rollup doors pulling straight through and an 8 inch concrete slab with 24 inch concrete beams going in and out of each door for pulling dozers up onto to be worked on for the grand total of $110,000 and that also included spray in foam insulation. By the way that little skid steer you had will not operate a stump grinder it is a standard flow machine. You have to get one with a high flow to be able to spin the grinding wheel at any speed strong enough to grind a stump. Just call a reputable guy in town that owns a stone grinder and I have him come out unless you wanna dig it up with the backhoe.

In the computer animation that starts at 36:15, all the openings for vehicles/walk-thrus are on only one side of the building. There are no other openings on the three other sides. Wouldn't it be prudent to put a walk-out doorway on the opposite side of the building as an emergency exit? Honest question.
@dedalliance1
@dedalliance1 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think emergency exits are that important in such a large building. However, a pull through bay would be nice for parking trailers and towing stuff that can't move on its own power in and out of the building else you have to back in every trailer and anyone that's even backed in a trailer into a shop area especially on a sunny day is about impossible to see through by the sides of the trailer inside of the shop.
