Willow's problem with magic is that she stopped respecting it. When she was first learning, she only used magics in life or death situations. Now she's using magic with no consideration or hesitation. When you stop respecting a force of nature, that force inevitably teaches you why you're wrong to do so.

Not true. You can use magic to help yourself plenty. Its just more dangerous to break the balance of the non magic world than it is to affect the already disturbed parts. Its like if you had a broken pane of glass. Breaking it more won't do much compared to breaking a fully intact pane. You create nasty jagged shards you can hurt yourself and others on. Instead of breaking already dangerous glass into less dangerous dust.

I just realised something when watching this video. If Willow can cast spells on everyone in a given crowd who doesn't meet specific criteria, could she not have just made everyone in the crowd who _is_ a fifteen-year-old girl glow faintly or something? Given herself IRL videogame quest objective markers? She's not just resorting to spells to sort out minor inconveniences, she's doing it in the most dangerous way possible when safer magical alternatives have to exist.

@@Square-ow7oq ok, I try to explain. Talisguy suggested a simpler way to achieve an even better result (make Dawn or all 15 year olds glow). And that is a good question, why Willow has not done so. There are reasons for her arc, showing her relying on magic for everyday situations, but that is no in-world reason for Willow doing so. The characters and their actions should make sense from their perspective. Only then they are believable. Generally that is always a good idea for a story: Otherwise we as audience would get angry (She would never do that) or think the characters stupid (She could have done ...) or think the writers just took an easy way for them.

I think everyone (especially Rana) has forgotten from what kind of family background Xander comes from. There are clear indications of a disfunctional maybe even abusive (mentally if not physically) family. Remember his dream at the end of season 4 and how his father was portrayed. Heck he rather sleeps outside come Christmas time than face his family. So when he has has issues with attachment and the permancy of marriage it should come as no surprise.

Xander is afraid of what's going to happen in his future. Marriage scars him. Dawn is a little coleptomaniac. Giles thinks Buffy is too dependent on him and he's worried she won't make hard decisions for herself. Willow is getting way to into using magic for eveything and Tara knows it. Spike is still obsessed with Buffy. Lastly Buffy is still all messed up from being in heaven then coming back to this crappy planet. It will be interesting to see where we go from here.

It’s Halloween in Sunnydale. What could go wrong? Hard to do something new but they did. You were right about the 2 teen vamp dudes reminding you of the guys in Scream. Remember the times and the scary movies of this time. This episode touched on most of them . I am often surprised about the lack of understanding Dawn and her stealing. Two things…. A teenager that has gone through the traumas that Dawn has without a family to give her support would act out somehow. Also there is the genetics of shoplifting from Buffy. In Becoming, Part 1, she tells her first watcher… if your from Bullocks, I meant to pay for that lipstick. “ There were many things that happened in both parts that started in those crucial episodes. We saw the back stories on Angel, Drusilla, and Buffy because they happened in the past. There were other stories about Becoming but those were in the present.

Pat: "What the hell is that?" reguarding the _Peanuts_ Halloween special. ☹🤦‍♂🤦‍♀🤦 3:28-3:38 The first Halloween episode was Spike taking advantage of a human aka Ethan Rayne causing chaos. Spike just took advantage of what was already happened and was caused by a human. The second was a human causing something magic to happen accidentally to a human Halloween party. And this episode was rebel vampires even Spike thought gave vampires "a bad name." No mythology rules being broken. Xander has cold feet regaurding his upcoming marraige, Dawn is a coleptomaniac, Giles thinks Buffy is too dependent on him and that she needs to learn to grow up, Willow has an addiction to magic that is getting worse with every episode (with Tara starting to acknowledge), Spike is still obsessed with Buffy, and Buffy is depressed from being resurrected from heaven. Where will the show go from here? Dawn is officially the same age Buffy was when Buffy became the slayer. In the origin story. The joke of Angel being at the door when Giles opened it had me laughing hard. Even for those like Chris who don't understand Willow's addiction, her attitude towards Tara is showing it just as much as the usage itself. That's how true addiction works. "Mist, cemetary, Halloween. Should end well." *Almost knocks himself out* "Bloody brilliant." Buffy can't really argue that, "That was different." Her argument, whether she believes it or not, should have been, "Learn from my mistakes." Buffy killed like Kinpin fourteen years before Kingpin made it famous. If Willow has sex with Tara at the end of this episode, it's blatant rape considering we know Tara wasn't in the mood before Willow erased her mind. But, even if they didn't have sex, snuggling is (and any other lovy-dovey moments at this point) considered sexual assualt. The episodes are the same legnth, but I cannot remember commercial break legth on The WB vs UPN. The reason the older people start freaking out towards the younger generation and assuming things are different is that their lesson for that stage in life is to make the realization that things like kissing and sex and dating etc. don't change and that when they were younger, their older siblings and parents were going through the same thing thing they are now going through concerning their younger relative. Suraj, no one thinks its harmless to make people forget. The problem is all the little things The Normies are trying to dismiss are not harmless. Willow is addicted and it's been a minor problem since restoring Angel's soul (ignoring advice and worry from Giles and other characters, casting spells that go wrong without a worry for the consequences, blaming others for the fallout, etc.) the beginning, but since Willow resurrected Buffy her addiction is msking even the small problem bigger than they ever have been.

In All The Way, again we can see the tensions between Tara and Willow reaching new levels. Willow is gradually becoming totally addicted to magic, and the look that both Giles and Tara gave Willow was very telling. Xander eventually tells them of the impending marriage, which somehow gets overshadowed in the story here as we focus on Dawn. Dawn is course growing up now, and is very much under peer pressure from her friend. The date with the two guys is interesting in that when they go to the old man's house we are convinced it is him who is bad, only for one the guys to be a vampire and bite into him, replicating the very first scene in BTVS E1 S1 where Darla is the vampire and we were led to believe it was the boy she was with. Some funny comedy relief when they are all standing in a circle in the park, and the Vampire says 'are we gonna fight', and Buffy says 'did anyone come here just to make out' and the couple put their hands up. The juxtaposition of Buffy/Dawn interesting too, with Buffy acting like Joyce was towards Buffy. I have to say at this point in the show I was really missing the Oz/Willow relationship, as it was so innocent and never had any arguments etc, things of course are very different now, with constant bickering and mistrust with Tara. Dawn of course has her coming of age moment here with her first kiss and dusting her first vamp. The groundwork is continually being laid by the writers for the episodes ahead.

I'm glad we are all now on the same page about Willow's behaviour. Up until this episode there were still some people that thought that maybe she wasn't abusing her magic, but now it's clear as day.

All 7 of them?? Because, next episode is… legendary. I’m asking because mostly of the best episodes of season 5 they weren’t together that much.

@@YtuMamaTambien22 Yeah, I would've loved to see all of their reactions for "The Body". Would suck if they didn't watch OMWF together. This is THE episode we want them react to as an entire group.

Don't feel too bad for old man Kallenbach. It was a fun plot fake-out, but this is Sunnydale! He was definitely up to something nefarious; he just forgot that the kids he invited in to prey on, could be vampires. Plus, the vampire who bit him said, "that dude was rank," which is a hint that he wasn't a normal human, similar to the swim team in "Go Fish." I think of it like the Cabin in the Woods, where there were multiple horror plots that could have happened.

Exactly. It's weird to me how anyone would think he was just going to give them treats. He obviously was up to something creepy.
