US consumers, by and large, won't pay the prices that they do in the EU. Aquarium Dietzenbach has a 2 week holding period on their fish when they come in from their suppliers, IIRC. All of that extra time that they hold, medicate and feed the fish costs $$. The average hobbyist in the US is buying based on price (and color), the average hobbyist in Europe is buying based on quality. Because of that difference, AD can afford to hold fish for a time before shipping them because their customers (and their customers customers) are willing to pay more. US wholesalers need to have a much shorter turnaround time to keep their prices low. I happen to know, as a fact, that AD and two of the largest US wholesalers get their platies and mollies from the same wholesaler in Singapore. So they are the exact same fish, the difference is in husbandry. (coincidentally, the reason why you don't see Plumetail Platies much in the US is because they cost twice as much as a Red Wag Platy. US customers just don't get that excited about them, why spend $3 on a Plumetail when they can buy a regular Red Wag for $1.89 and to them it is the same fish. Yet, ironically, they'll pay $5 for a yellow Glofish Danio when you can get a LF Gold Danio for under $2)

I am afraid our chainstores arent that good. Some are but most are not. Each outlet has too many rules and ties to mawe the shops great.

German peoples pay on quality. They don't care about the price as long as the quality is there.

Very True. I'd order from these guys weekly in the US if I had the luxury. Would customers care enough to pay the premium that such a facility would need to charge? My experience says... Maybe? It's complicated. Still, buying from a wholesaler that quarantines is a slam dunk, and I loved this video. More please!

We need fish like those in the US, you could tell they were very well cared for. Those rams were killer and the variety amazing. I wanted a video of just the filtration and water change system.

Filtration seems to be hmf filters. You can see them in the back I think.

Filtration depended on what room. African cichlids rooms had huge shared filtration etc. I intend to put out a much longer video on Facebook of this place when I’m back from China.

Never seen fish so active and healthy. Water looks crystal clear. Looks like central water changer and fish are just fed quality food once so they are healthy and hungry like mad

at 5:31 the platies in the bottom tank are swirling like a hurricane/tornado. they only do that in high numbered schools and when they're happy. I love to see it

Can you describe their setup a little? It appears to my eye most tanks are 6 footers, only held up by their ends. No middle support. Yet other tanks appear to be simply glass on glass (stacked). Love the selection of fish too.

Yeah lots of em were the glass support style as in the side panels were all one pane of glass that were the ends for say 3 or 4 tanks high.

I know your really excited pal as I would be too. But that one was quite hard on the eyes ,. If the videos need to be a certain size for the views then maybe putting this size outlet up as part one , two , three etc. Or putting a long version up on jimmys channel would be good . This looked like a fantastic outlet that many of us would love to be able to see the workings and some of the other fish they had . Either way as normal , thanks for bringing us the footage that you do and every bit is something we would.not of seen otherwise and is highly appreciated. If you are going to the U.K. at any time then make sure you visit pier aquatic and wharf aquatics . Keep up the good work

Amazing video bro.👍 Cory could you recommend a netting fabric which could easily hold guppies but allow the fry to easily swim out when born? What size mesh should be? Want to house my breeders in area within pond but still restricted so they can't eat fry. Any advice would be appreciated.

In the sixties we lived on Vancouver Island, just north of you. So the people who got us involved in aquariums back then, was a German couple who ran a pet shop that was in Victoria. It was an art back then as well. We started with a 5, 10 & 15 gallons, then a twenty gallon. I suppose Europe must have been well ahead in the tropical fish hobby.

Hey Cory, I’ve been setting up a 37 gallon tank (30 W x 12 D x 22 H), and I was wondering if I could keep about ONLY 3-4 Female Firemouth cichlids together in that tank, and maybe some kuhli loaches or corydoras for the bottom to keep the tank clean. Would that work?

Gregor Woehle depends on how full your tank is and the size. Molly’s do well with them and African dwarf frog. I’ve had great luck with both of those. I also have a random male Betta in the tank! But mine is 100 gallons and I only have about 40 guppies in it

@@shaleeandrews6560 Cardinals, Neons, Corys, bristlenose plecos, snails, platys, swordfish, enders, mollies, shrimp, whitecloud minnows, fancy goldfish, rams. Guppies can take cooler temps - 65 degrees is okay. Not: Serpae Tetra, large/medium tetras, Tiger Barbs, most barbs, small-large angel fish, cichlids, bettas, gouramis.

Every big box pet store I've ever been to and even my lfs in my area don't keep livestock nearly this healthy. I'm not a fan of government agencies intruding on businesses, but in the case of pet store's be it aquatic,dogs,cats,reptiles etc. The well being of these animals has to come first! I hope one day there is a permit process in place and to qualify to receive one the VAST majority of the animals have to be in good health. Rant over. Great video as usual Cory!

Honestly I’m not sure if we need USA breeders. It would t hurt, but most fish at these German warehouses were imported like we import into the USA. At least from what I could gather talking with them. I think it’s N overall standards issue. If all stores would only buy healthier fish, wholesalers would be forced to do it. They would raise prices. Consumers would need to pay more also etc. takes everyone trying really.

You are probably right. I still would like to see home breeders take a bigger role in providing high quality fish to customers willing to pay for it. Unfortunately, this wouldn't help out brick and mortar stores like yours. Thanks for replying to my comment. Cheers.

I agree that more US breeders are neeeded so badly but no common breeders, breeders who can carry out a quality breeding project knowledgeable in genetic and selective breeding and also allowing young people to learn about the wonderful experience that one enjoys while breeding. Many people are jealous and worried from showing many people how to come a successful breeder which is contributing to this amazing hobby or business decline. We need to focus on quality breeding and educating our customers here about proper care for fish like Aquarium Co-Op does. I am a tropical fish breeder from Cuba and without much of the technology and many things we have here and all of those strains we saw in the video we breed them and share in between breeders and also our customer are always happy all kids learn about breeding which ensures the new generation to uplift Freshwater breeding
