I never encountered the issue you did on my system. I'm on X570 with a 3090 in slot 1, camlink pro in slot 2 and an Asus 10GBe NIC in slot 3.

Crazy story but glad you finally got it working! I have the ASUS TUF Z690 DDR4 mobo and have an 4k60 Pro working in the 2nd slot. (my 3080 is close to the CPU then the 4k60 Pro in the one below that). I want to change to the Cam Link Pro instead so I can capture multiple game consoles/devices. It should work right since the 4k60 Pro is fine?

Yup this is normal. This is called PCIe bifurcation and it divides the PCIe lanes into separate x4 , as 4 separate lane groups. This is common on PCIe adapter cards that have multiple devices on a card, line those nvme adapters which have space for 4 drives. Bifurcation is almost always done on the first slot closest to the CPU and you're expected to move the GPU to the next fastest slot. Good that you tried it out

A slot swap solved this. I'm a professional system builder and I might have run into something like this a decade ago? But I don't think I would have remembered that or solved it any easier than you did. My condolences. 😬

Man.. I feel your pain 😔 I’m using the Camlink Pro with a Gigabyte B550 Vision-D motherboard, and it works… but not without some really weird issues that come & go randomly. It’s such a pain in the a$$ because it leaves me with very little confidence when I need to stream or create content. I’m so happy you spoke out about this card!! Kudos to you 🙏🏾

I have a m550b with two nvme ssds installed and a 4080. Doesn't seem to find the camlink pro. Do i need to upgrade the Mobo?? If so, what would you recommend?

Never had an issue with the Cam Link pro. Tried it on my Asus B550-A (home) and Asus X570-Pro (work) and it worked perfectly on both. To be honest it DOES say the required specs on the Elgato website. And I've been using my Cam Link Pro since 2021.

I have been fighting with this product for MONTHS... I love you... Just feeling validated that I'm not the only one that was having this issue. I'm running an MSI MPG Z690 Carbon WIFI and an MSI Gaming Trio 3070... I'm going to swap this card to the primary slot just to see if it works. So sad that this has to happen.

I dropped mine in with an older 9th gen i5 and an NVIDIA 9900 I think (it is an old card with DVI slots). and it worked for me one shot. All 4 HDMI spots work, all 4 at the same time. Worked for me one time too. And Not in the top slot. It is set in the middle somewhere. I am not there where the computer is now so I can't take a photo.

So, what mobo would this work on? I'm interested in buying. But after watching this i'm left confused. Sounds like the issue is PCIE lane limitations on your Mobo. I have a ROG Crosshair VIII Hero by Asus. Running R7 3700X and a 2080S Strix, 32GB RAM. Plus one NVME M.2 drive.

Shouldn’t have an issue with that motherboard. As far as my issue, it totally was a PCIe lane issue, except I did supply a PCIe 3.0x4 to it when it only calls for 2.0x4 and still had issues. Im still running it in the top slot

@Darkened Cyrus that's totally an undesirable compromise, I feel your disappointment 😅 I know in certain configurations, your issue is quite common. Having an m.2 drive installed in the slot that shares the same lanes as the x4 or x16 pcie slots reduces overall lanes available. Hope you can find a better solution!

What elgato card would you recommend? I’m using the stream deck XL and want to stay in the ecosystem. I want the cam link pro due to the 4 slots. I’m running 3 different consoles and one mirrorless cam. All other cams are usb. I’d like to avoid the unnecessary stress you and others have faced. I’d really like to figure this out but it seems my options are limited.

If you need pass through for the consoles, the cam link pro isn’t the solution. If you just need it for capture? Go for it. It now does 1440p and has other features since it’s firmware update

Actually, did you try doing a bios update? If it’s only working with the CPU lanes, it’s possible you had an old bios, or maybe you had a SATA drive that was connected to a slot that shared bandwidth with the x4 slot, or you had an nvme that was in an nvme slot that was sharing bandwidth with the x4 slot. Remember, chipset slots cap at x4 (except for X79 and some X570 boards). Some boards don’t have anything shared with that x4 slot at the bottom, some share an NVMe slot, some share the x1 slots, some share SATA ports. In the case of AMD, it’s been know they had numerous issues with USB and just chipset related problems non stop, they finally fixed it about a year ago, that’s why I asked if you were running the latest BIOS and AGESA versions.

It was the latest bios on all of the boards tested. I plugged it in both the top and bottom lanes and didn’t populate the NVMe lanes as to not take lanes from the PCIe x slot. Love the thought process and is exactly how I walked through troubleshooting it. I actually have it working in a new motherboard (b550 Msi gaming plus) in the 2nd x16 slot. Seriously baffled I couldn’t get this thing working in 3 different systems.

Hi, a few months ago I got this capture card and I'm having problems with tearing image defragmentation and green flashes, mi mobo it's a mpg x570 with 2 pcie 4.0 x 16 and I'm going crazy cuz it should be working, which Mobo you recommend to buy I also have 32gb ram Ryzen 7 2700 and a rx580, maybe it's other piece of hardware. Thanks for your help friend.

Hey, did you tried to swap your GPU ? Get a NVIDIA one ? I hab some enconding issue with RX 580 8GB in the past.

What happens when you install 2 x Cam Link Pro cards? You've already used the slot closest to the CPU for the first card, where do you install the second card? If the second card is installed on the next slot, and it works, then I don't see why the card didn't work for you the first time around. Food for thought.

Because graphics cards scale well and just lower their performance on smaller lanes from the PCIe connector. The Cam Link unfortunately doesn’t scale well as it needs that power and data transfer to support the capture cards. What I had working was maybe one port, but the moment I plugged 2 in it turned off the capture for both of the ports.

I have a MSI GODLIKE Z790 and got the Can Link Pro. It won’t even register in 4K Utility. Been reseated multiple times. And it works in a different pc of much less specs. I think I may be experiencing the same issue but it doesn’t make ANY sense at all with this motherboard.

Exactly. It's so weird. It's inconsistent when it shouldn't be. What slot are you plugging it into? Is it a slot that is disabled because of a NVMe drive that's populated near it?

@@DarkenedCyrus I have a 4090 in the first slot and I had the Cam Link in the second slot and right after I commented I actually pulled my M.2 drive out that was next to it and it worked. I honestly couldn't believe with THIS motherboard it still disabled the PCIe slot. I had every slot filled. But that ended up being the solution. I lost 8TB of storage but I still have 10.

The X670 chipset motherboard has 44 PCIe lanes vs the 36 available from B650. So shouldn't it be a simple plug and play no matter what slot you insert the card into?

No. Just because it has lanes, doesn’t mean the slot is wired for it. For example,the first x16 lane almost always has all 16 lanes wired up. Most lanes below it that are x16 aren’t fully wired and are usually x8 or x4, even though the physical connector is a x16. You also have to consider that lanes aren’t only for the physical slots, but for NVMe drives, chipset, and more

@@DarkenedCyrus I just saw the official video by elgato on youtube on how to install the cam link pro, and the video clearly shows the card being installed in the slot next to the graphics card, and it works as it is supposed to. I believe this would be one of their best selling products, but there aren't many people having the same issue.

Frustrating to watch.. please get to the pointt and the content faster.. Maybe consider doing an abstract at first and have trust that your core audience will stick around to make sure you get your beak wet. I am SO tired of KZfaqrs forcing us to take part in the advertising game before earning it...
